    Grumpy bear is probably my favorite bear. He's the ur example of chaotic good, and brings in a lot of moral complexity--he cares about others, but his own unhappiness begs the question--does he care about himself? How can he fight for good cheer if he has none? Does he use his own suffering to inflict suffering on people worse than him, such as the Rat King?

    Grumpy Bear has always been my favorite bear (I don't know why but I've always had a thing for grumpy characters... Even as a kid I couldn't stand all this rainbow magic and so found the grumpy one relatable), but now you've brought a level of depth to his character I didn't expect. I need to go watch this movie again just for him.

Also, his daughter is VA Cree Summer: The green M&M, Foxxy Love, She-hulk, Kida from Atlantis, Numbuh 5 in CKND, Elmyra, Penny from Inspector Gadget etc. And she voiced the main girls from the first two Care Bear movies.

    I'm not calling him out in that Douchy McNitpick sort of way either, I just thought it would be worth noting with the elephant. I get it, the Nostalgia Critic kind of peaked years back, Doug wanted to do something else but his audience didn't follow him into the new territory so he had to go back to doing NC and was basically out of things to do, so he had to dip into things he said he'd never do. I'll admit, I find them interesting now and then, and I actually like his editorials but I won't hold it against him for continuing the NC out of necessity to keep business going.

    +TheDreReichDude Yeah, but can't people change their minds and form new opinions or ideas? I'd get bored if the content creators I love never grew or evolved. Maybe pointing it out with the elephant or Mr. McNitpick would be a fun wink, acknowledging the change in his previously stated idea... but sometimes that's irritating (not with NC specifically but with anyone who is like: I'm pointing this out, so now that makes it okay - but really it's so I can make the joke first and take the wind out of the sails of all the commenters who would do it if I didn't) and it also highlighting that he is doing something he said he wouldn't - which would only rally the "YOU'VE CHANGED!" chorus more. ...Well, that was going to be my two cents but I've rambled on about a half-dollar's worth now!

    Now that I think about it, I actually really want to see the Care Bears take on an African Warlord. Like seriously, they go to save the child soldiers, and the villain has this tragic backstory tied up with the fallout of European colonialism and exploitation, and they like help him work through the psychological trauma and be a better person and it's just all done totally seriously with nothing overly cartoony or goofy. And the audience is like, "Did I seriously just see that?"

    I wanted to mention this here instead of the Dark Toons episodes, because this fits more thematically here. While Care Bears was never really dark, I do miss the weird moments that the earlier specials and series had, such as Coldheart and his creepy child servants, and No Heart making a threat of eating Gentle Heart Lamb in the form of a tiger. There were some really good WTF moments in a show that was so light hearted and sweet to the point of being near saccharine. I think it could be hilarious to have a compilation of the darkest Care Bear segments on this channel, even if he doesn't exactly "care" about reviewing the franchise anymore.

  • @retrofan4963

    @retrofan4963

    Жыл бұрын

    Care Bears franchise used to not be afraid showing dark moments and show some dark themes behind the villains in the early days of the Care Bears. In the early DIC Care Bears show, Professor Cold Heart does some really messed up stuff to enslaved kids. And the Spirit Book from Care Bears Movie 1, Dark Heart from Care Bears Movie 2, and No Heart clearly shows demonic forces both thematically and in their actions to posses people to commit doing evil deeds, which is up to the Care Bears and Care Bear Cousins to stop. Their scary and dark vibes heavily contrasted with the lighthearted and friendly vibe of the Care Bears, which in result, Care Bears stories used to have actual stakes at one point. I do agree that Care Bears is never a really dark franchise, but I also agree with you that they used to be not be afraid having dark elements at times. I feel ever since Season 2 of the Care Bears Family is where the Care Bears franchise started to subtly heavily tone down the darkness thanks to No Heart and his demonic shadows having less presence in the show only be replaced by Shrieky being the dominant villain and the modern Care Bears stuff afterwards sugar-coated even further. You can even tell by the Care Bears films how the Care Bears franchise tone down the dark elements over time. Care Bears: Adventures in Wonderland and Care Bears; Nutcracker are nowhere near as dark and high in stakes compared to Care Bears Movie 1 and 2.

    Konigwolfen antlers are not a type of horn, bub. Horns are permanent and receive their blood supply by vessels inside the head. Antlers are not permanent. The animal grows them and sheds them each year. Antlers receive their blood supply through velvet which looks like fuzzy skin over antlers. Eventually the velvet dries up and falls off, cutting off once the antlers are fully grown. Then the antlers have no more blood supply and eventually fall off aka shed.

    Say what you want about this, but when I saw this as a kid, I actually got curious about the music and the ballet. I now love ballets and classical music thanks to this.

    "I love those kind of movies because the Critic always takes me out to dinner afterwards" best line in this episode. I wouldn't be shocked if Doug really did that for Malcolm. 😂

    This is probably one of the funniest NCs of it's season! "Okay, who smoked one?" "Oh, I don't give a shit." "Are you listening to your iPod?!" Also, "Yay! Slavery!" Is at least a little better than how he was portrayed in the Nazi version of this story. At least he didn't abandon his sister for a "rat bite."

    It's not a fetish, I think it's a Christmas coming of age. A rite of passage, as it were. Basically, when it's a care bear's first most memorable Christmas, they need to find something that can be turned into an ornament. But it needs to be chosen because it means something special to them.

    Funny that the clown with horns on his head says they weren't attacking them when clearly they really does, seeing how angry they all looked.
