    Fun thing with Spell Queller, as well, is that if you use it to counter an overloaded spell or any spell with an alternate casting mode, they can't cast it as if it was overloaded. So if you counter Cyclonic Rift (when overloaded it's still a 2 CMC card), if they ever get rid of Queller they only get to bounce one thing.

    I'm always very surprised to not see one of my favorite cards never show up on lists like these, especially when you had a dedicated removal section. Curse of the Swine! It's a sorcery for 2B and X, and it exiles X target creatures, their controllers put a 2/2 boar token for each creature exiled this way. It's essentially reality shift, with none of the downside risk (Which was already honestly minimal, at it's worst it drew them a card, they still had to pay full cost for the manifested creature if they wanted to play it), but with the massive upside of exiled a ton of stuff at once! Frankly, this is commonly a one sided, exiling board wipe. Sure, it's at sorcery speed, and that's significant, but goddamn, is it worth it!

  • @scottdusenbery2278

    I agree, Curse of Swine is ridiculous and I love it. I run it in my Naban Deck and it's just so good. It can be used as a 3 cost exile any creature, or as a pretty effective board wipe except it exiles in blue. It's not as great against token/sacrifice decks but it's amazing against tribal. I completely shut down an Arabo deck using it. And it's so cheap, it's like 50 cents to a dollar. I think too many people look at the 2/2 body it gives them and shies away from it but it's like "I will gladly give you a 2/2 pig in exchange for Ulamog and the certainty that he is not coming back."

    I tried it, but problem with Boompile and Nev Disk is how slow they are. With disk you will 100% need to wait a turn and with Boompile it is a 50/50. All your opponent needs to do is play a reclamation sage and you are done. I ussually play Oblivion Stone over it. If anything Perilious Vault is a card more people should consider. It isn't as fast but it can deal with anything! Soul of New Phyrexia, Avacyn, Darksteel Forge or a simple Heroic Intervention. All of those are cards people often play to dodge board wipes and Vault gives you a colloress way to bypass them all. Only card that it is weak against is Teferi's Protection. It is also great against all graveyard based generals such as Athreos, Muldrotha, Daretti, Meren. Just play Perilous Vault and your mono green has both a great board clear and graveyard hate!

Sure, half the time it won't work the first time, and 1/4 of the times you play it, it won't work in either of the first two activations, but the fact that it gives an out to every deck when facing all sorts of problematic situation (and is an artifact, something much more easily tutorable than other types of cards) really makes it shine imo :D

    Verity Circle - I absolutely love this brand new card from RNA in practice, and in commander, where everyone is tapping a lot more creatures to use activated abilities, it could draw you so many cards. For those who don't know, Verity Circle is an enchantment for 2 and 1 blue that allows you to draw a card whenever a creature an opponent controls becomes tapped and it isn't attacking. For 4 and 1 blue you can also use its ability to tap a creature without flying. Would recommend in any blue deck if you want early card draw on a permanent.

    Yeah so much fun stopping your friends having fun and playing their deck, you know... the reason everyone is playing. People who get pleasure out of stopping their friends playing a game are just naturally pretty toxic, i don't care what anyone says, anyone who defends this sort of behaviour are the people who like to do it themselves and don't like people criticising their toxic playstyle. You're not sitting down with your friends and thinking "hey, wouldn't it be nice for me and my buddies to have some fun playing Magic?", you're just a sad person who's sole intention is to tell your friends they're not allowed to play the game they've all sat down to. And of course you're proud of it. This community is just full of toxic pricks who don't understand how to make friends.

    I mean how useful is lightning bolt in decks that aren't based on spell slinging? I get it's one mana for 3 damage to any target, but it feels useless compared to the spot another card could take in your deck. Plus. a lot of the time it'll be a dead card in your hand late game. Like what're you going to do? Use it to finish off a creature that's been dealt damage that turn? It just seems like an impractical, low-impact cantrip. I want to like this comment so many more times. People act like spot removal is bad in this format, yet lose to 3 cmc commanders, Mana Crypt, and creature-based infinite combos. If your presupposition repeatedly fails you, perhaps it is time to adapt. Flame Slash, Oust, Red Elemental Blast, Pyroblast, Rapid Hybridization, Pongify are all nearly criminally underplayed. Slash and Oust tending more towards decks that look to deal combat damage (Tymna/x, et al), but the instant speed options are almost universal.

    Evolution Charm is a fantastically versatile card. 1G - Choose one - Search your library for a basic land card and put it into your hand; return target Creature card from your graveyard to your hand; target Creature gains flying until end of turn. It's ramp when you need it, almost a regrowth when you need it, and a Jump when you need it. In my playgroup there's not very many flying creatures usually so Evolution Charm can threaten player's life totals pretty handily, if there are no kill spells lying in wait.

I'd even run it in some mono blue decks. Alms Collector is a white Notion Thief. Citanul Flute is very mana hungry, but a repeatable and colorless tutor for any creature. Mask of Memory and Rogue's Gloves can draw a lot of cards, if your deck plays small creatures with evasion, like in an Edric, Oona or Yuriko deck.

The second one is probably my biggest not enough people play this card. Often times you'll have great cards in hand and then someone windfalls or wheels and you have to discard them. with nephalia academy, you can pick the ones you want to keep since its a replacement effect vs a triggered ability.

    I've got a few: Sundial of the Infinite Anything weird happens during your turn...I'm just going to erase that. It also circumvents effects that force you to sac things at the end of combat / at the end of turn leaving you with extra tokens or possibly preventing harmful triggers. I had a weird Jhoira of the Ghitu deck that relied on the RR "Take an extra turn, then lose game at the end of the second turn." cards just to remove time counters from my suspended cards (think Time Walk). My Merieke Ri Berit deck prevented the delayed trigger from Merieke untapping from resolving, letting me keep stolen creatures and have her untapped as a threat. My Gruul used it as a counterspell/fog effect if something went wrong with my attacks. In a pinch an instant-heavy deck can get out of a pact with it, leaving all lands untapped even if you don't get to play your turn. With Vedalken Orrery it doesn't even matter. It's a really weird effect, like repeatable Disallow with Split Second but only during your turn. Utopia Sprawl Hands down best ramp permanent in green. Play T1, T2 you're set to cast a CMC 3 spell OR play some other 1-drop T1, play Utopia Sprawl T2 and you've got fixed mana for CMC 2 and the 1-drop you cast earlier. The good thing is that it's really fast and fixes colors as well as more mana. Would I play this over a Rampant Growth or Sakura Tribe Elder? In two colours, yes. More than that and it becomes unreliable unless you specifically tailor for it...but then you can use all the other cards that refer to Forests specifically. Managorger Hydra / Taurean Mauler / any spell that says "whenever a player casts a spell" You have no idea how many spells people cast. Taurean Mauler has the added benefit of fitting into tribal decks because it's a shapeshifter. These things get out of hand really quickly and it doesn't matter if they don't stay around for long; CMC 3 is a pretty cheap price to pay for something that will definitely draw out a removal spell. Pariah This hard combos easily with things like Stuffy Doll, Phytohydra, Vigor etc. It passively combos with things that are indestructible, like Darksteel Mutated creatures or your Commander if you have Bastion Protector in play. That set aside it's a removal/stall spell. Slap it on an opponent's creature and suddenly they don't feel like attacking you anymore. Or you can slap it on an opponent's creature and tell your friend to attack you in order to get rid of it. People usually want to save their valuable creature and try to somehow protect it instead of getting rid of it by attacking you (essentially the creature dealing damage to itself) - which wastes a lot of valuable time or cards for them. Spirit Link Pseudo-lifelink that can target your opponents' creatures, too. Spirit Loop is already quite good because it returns to your hand but Spirit Link is even better because you can make your opponents think twice what to do with a big creature they're about to swing with: to you it's either free life or they achieve absolutely nothing (unless you have so little health that you die to the damage instantly because it's a triggered effect). Elixir of Immortality Anti-mill and 5 life is nothing to scoff at. Really specific, wouldn't play unless my decks had a tendency to mill themselves or the meta played a lot of mill. O-Naginata Who doesn't want +3/+0 and trample on their creature? O-Naginata, Rancor, Kessig Wolf Run and Skarrg, the Rage Pits (and Rogue's Passage for unblockable) are my favourite ways of giving my Big Dumb Hitter some trample.

I abused this card to set up powerful off the top plates that have changed the way a game has gone. This is as easy as cracking and evolving Wilds or a panorama or a Sakura tribe Elder. Spell Queller functions the same as Fiend Hunter (2 separate clauses) which means if you do something to it (eg. return it to hand) in response to its own ETB trigger, it just exiles the spell forever. The deck runs a lot of etb effects, and with a sac outlet like Viscera Seer, Gift guarantees triggers not only on my turn, but each of my opponent's turns. I also find it useful as just something to protect a creature I care about. I think you'd need a deck that wants to recur creatures already for it to be good. I put forward my "nobody plays it but everyone should" card - Abundance. As long as you have it, you _will not_ get mana flooded or screwed. You can choose to get a land or nonland for each card you would've drawn. Additionally, it is card draw _replacement_ which means you can avoid triggering Consecrated Sphinx or even avoid losing the game to drawing from an empty library. It's also quite cheap, at 50 cents for the two pre-con printings and $2 for the Urza's or Tenth. (Though be warned if you're gunning for bling, as the only foil printing is in Tenth and is $33) Another big point I love about stealing cards from your opponents (Dire Fleet Daredevil, Etali, Stolen Strategy, Gonti, Praetor's Grasp, Thada Adel, etc) is not only do you gain value in the form of new cards, but also that your opponents are losing potentially valuable parts of their decks or combos. And for the "play more lands more easily in colors other than Green" I'd say Gem of Becoming is really good, even if you're only in two of the three colors it tutors. It'll pull up even nonbasics to your hand, so you can ensure you won't miss land drops while pulling lands out of your deck for later.

    Angelo Rosales it wasn't always talking that way tho.. but lately he's cranked it up to 11.... the last video he did for example was torture, it makes him feel super fake. its like he moved the period of every sentence to the middle of the next sentence... there were parts i had to rewatch cause the way he structured (restructured) the sentences made it sound like half run on sentences. where he used all the wrong punctuation. like this... tainted strike a black...[read at double speed] card that rEAds TaRGet CReaTUre gets...+1/!.. +0 and infect until?..[read in slow motion] EnD oF TUrn oh boy ThE power there... see my issue with him now?

    Loving this list. Mainly because alot of these cards I play due to their utility. Necrologia is in with the new font of agony, as well as sitting in my Yuriko deck so I can get what I need to win. Hostage taker/Gonti is sitting in my Scarab God deck. All the extra ETB effects are just great. Spelltwine has actually won me the game a few times in my Jhoira/Niv/Locust God deck, counter someone's expropriate, then the following turn, since I'm looking at 6-8 Mana anyways, use spelltwine with a thousand year storm on the board + reverberate/twincast effects and get copies of expropriate. Very fun stuff. Stolen strategy is on the "paradox engine good" list imo. Mainly because when you play it, you quickly become the target of everyone's hate if they don't have immediate removal for it lol Another good "forgetable" is head games makes an IMMEDIATE enemy, however it cripples that Johnny Combo in your group. It and awaken the erstwhile are pretty solid cards, awaken + a flashback dread return on a massacre wurm = nets a huge swing on your opponents life totals... especially if it happens to be in a Teysa Karlov deck that doubles the death triggers on the wurm. >:) P.S. Tell Jimmy if he wants a good Boros commander list, I have an Archangel Avacyn list I'll send him. :)

    Victory chimes is an underrated pet card of mine. I have it in my Ayli deck, where often times i need to keep open exactly one mana for each of my opponent's turn. Instead of losing three colored mana for my turn, i can just have victory chimes which untaps itself

    The best play I've had with gonti was after my opponent tutored cyclonic rift to the top of his deck with the liliana plainswalker, using someone else's rift against them was the best moment I've ever had in magic. Another underrated hidden aspect of gonti is putting peoples lands on the bottom of their library and then watching them miss land drops.

    For decks that use their graveyard a lot, Bottomless Pit (each player discards randomly each upkeep) and Null Brooch (2,t,discard your hand to counter noncreature spell) are good defense vs control/combo opponents.

    Spell Queller is garbage in commander. Cancel is more flexible, actually deals with things and has the same cmc, and we all know how terrible cancel is.

  • @snakeman830

    @snakeman830

    5 жыл бұрын

    Not entirely true. A lot of it depends on exactly what you are getting rid of. For example, nailing an opposing counterspell is effectively getting a free 2/3 flyer on your Cancel. Exiling a Toxic Deluge is even worse for the caster than an outright counter, as additional costs have to be paid each time. For that matter, exiling a board wipe will effectively be total counter much of the time; what's the point of board wiping right after one has already resolved?

  • @fadianwickstrom5970

    @fadianwickstrom5970

    5 жыл бұрын

    snakeman830 True that there are situations where a queller is basically free value but you still can't counter some of the most impactful stuff in the format. No extra turn spells or board wipes bigger than 4 is still a pretty big drawback. Additionally this turns all your opponents kill spells into counter magic. Imagine playing this to get kid of that crucial wrath of god and then watching them swords you queller right as you'r about to attack

    I play it in Ephara. As long as Ephara is in play it cancels the spell and I draw a card the next upkeep. Plus it can usually get one or two swings in before it gets removed.

    Exactly what I thought. Unless you have some major synergies with spirits, ETB-triggers or creatures in general (which most decks don't), most normal counterspells are a lot better. Cancel might not be better, but Counterspell, Mana Leak, Condescend, every Cancel with Upside, Cryptic Command and many more definitely are.

    I've got this Toshiro Umezawa deck and it's one of the most fun things I've ever played. It wins by recurring a Gray Merchant over and over. Which isn't the most creative way to do it, but the way it continually sacs and recurs the gray merchant is 100% through casting instants. Like Costly Plunder and Altar's Reap to sac it, and then getting it back with things like Makeshift Mannequin. There's also so many fun black instants that people just don't see coming, but countering a spell with Imp's Misschief is amazing, especially when you can do it twice.

  • @EliseLogan
    @EliseLogan5 жыл бұрын

    A few thoughts: Hostage Taker: It's great in sac decks, too. Steal someone's flyer or unblockable or other annoying creature, then sac it for your benefit. Phyrexian Revoker: cast it and name Chromatic Lantern or Sol Ring or Phyrexian Altar... See how fast your opponents kill your Revoker.... Toshiro Umezawa: It's into the graveyard from anywhere, so great if someone is playing a self-mill deck
