Hey man great video, can't wait to sync up the carbs on my xj700.

the pictures really helped me at the start. I was a bit of a tard and thought that the sync screw between the #2 and #3 carb was the adjustment for the idle, but nope. I don't have the gauges, so I may end up taking it to someone, or buying a set so I can fine-tune the sync, but since it was only one screw out of sync it's possible to get it back after some fudging around. (I found the engine settles at a low point and runs nicely)

Also check all the rubber caps or screws on the rubber boots between the carbs and the head, if the accelorator pump runs off vacuum at the fuel shut off valve, check the vacuum line, check and clean tank rust out if need, any minor crack in intake boots,carb boots, fuel lines or vacuum lines can cause major issues, check all this before making any adjustments to carbs, message me for any more questions, please reply if this info was helpful to you...

Well sold mine about 3months ago and already miss it,if you for sure have any questions feel free to ask me about them,i have found useful forums and stuff on these,bet luck on your bike,the one in the video had straight pipes was the reason for the carb sync and adjustments

Just a thought. I have an XJ900F. To sync that you need a YICS tool which blocks off the YAMAHA INDUCTION CONTROL SYSTEM. Without that there is no way you can sync the carbs properly. Don't ask how I know this ! The engine looks almost the same but for the YICS system just below the induction ports

Make sure your jets are where they need to be inside the bowl,i know,i cleaned mine one time and had 2 jets in the wrong place, also sync is the key of this bike, always sync off #1 carb, and with your low fuel running issue, make sure tank is not rusted out, next make sure that your accleorator fuel cock vacuum is running of the #1 carb.

Don't forget the pt belt when you get on that thing along with accident avoidance if something happens your family won't get sgli if you don't have that. He ways great vid just went out and synced mine runs great now

Defintly a air fuel issue, buy a set a sync gauges off ebay, follow the procedure in this vid and i promis it will run like new, i was suprised how great my 82 ran afterwards because mine done the same thing, also at a quick twist it would hold a high idle forever before falling back to normal idle rpm, first sign of carbs being out of sync

Great video. I noticed the one of the pipes gets hotter by the head on my 81 650. Would that be one running lean? Should I miss with the mixture screw on top? Thanks.

Sounds like either the idle jets in the carburetor bowls are clogged, or the idle screw has backed out more turns then need be, look for a screw with a black know pointed out torward the rear of the bike in the middle of the 4 carbs, work the throttle abit while screwing it in like your tightning a screw to see if it will hold idle on its own, @30seconds in this vid, in the middle of the 4 carbs you will see a star shaped screw, thats the idle screw.

my bike i've noticed if I stop quickly will stall out, especially with low fuel. So it'll be a fuel-flow issue definitely.

I need help. I have a 82 maxim 650. All was going well until i ran out of gas one day. I filled up road around and now the idol is sitting at 2000 and higher. and it will not come back down. Any help will be appreciated.

hi i got a 650 maximum and it has like no power it dies when i give it gas i bench synced it and now i am on the vacuum part and i wanted to know how much psi is the carbs ment to run by default? my carbs are all reading 5psi so is that why it keeps shutting off when i give it gas or is that something else? i been stuck here for a wile now and would like some answers if possible

I just got a 1981 Yamaha midnight maxim 650. Its runs but doesn't want to stay idled would that be the carbs? It sat for 3 years before I bought it

from what I here you have to have a ycis tool to even help sync or it will not even go 100% as I have tried before and had a little success getting it to run ok but not perfict

check the vacume hose to your fueltank (i had the same problem)

I need to know if there's a place to get a set of real carbs. The HSC32 carbs are total junk. I had them off two times and used at least 4 cans of carb cleaner on these pieces of junk. I had a spray coming out of the fuel bowls that went 20 feet. I sprayed the cleaner in the thing that goes into the retarded jet in the fuel bowl. I get fuel from the tank. Compression 150 140 140 140 using Mac Tools tester. Great spark. Seems to run better with full tank. Lower it gets harder to start. Junk.
