How far I went to understand the reason why the car doesn't start or crank?
Is the reason; dead DME, FEM unit, battery, short circuit or integrated supply module or something else?

- The actual problem was found
- Problem is not related to these modules;
- Integrated supply module, FEM- or DME control units!
- Ground cable looked in poor condition
- When you put the ignition on there will be a few warnings!
- The engine does not crank or start and various check control messages be displayed
- Driving stabilisation failure
- Flat Tyre Monitor (RPA) failure
- Starter / ignition failure

- The cause of the starting problem was a bad GROUND cable
- The continuity of this ground cable is broken
- THIS part should be replaced at 160TKM at the latest!

- Ground cable from gearbox to the car chassis
04:01 The DME unit came back to life!
- No fault codes anymore!
- Car start again!

- I want to test if I can program a new used DME unit into my car
- The first step is to read the DME unit's secret ISN code
- read ISN security code directly through the OBD port
- using Yanhua mini ACDP
- The ISN codes of the DME unit and the FEM units must match

10:07 Program new used DME unit to the car
- Import and write your own car ISN Code to the new DME
- The VIN number of the DME unit will be changed later with ISTA-P
- ISTA-D requires you to program the DME unit in the car
- Program a new DME unit in the car with ISTA-P
- My car’s engine power class is 1.6,
- Donor DME is from an engine with a power class of 1.8!
- With ISTA-P, programming is only possible:
- If the Donor DME's operating Hours are less than 10 hours
- OR its power class must be the same.
- Wrong power class causes a powerdrain error message on the info display!
- Car only operates in emergency mode
- 1F2108 DME, incorrect data record: Variant monitoring
- The power class can only be changed by cloning or copying the original EEPROM
18:39 Reassemble Integrated supply module
- Use the Loctite SI 5970 sealing compound for sealing
20:23 Complete the installation of the FEM unit
21:09 Install Integrated supply module
- The seal of the integrated supply module has now dried overnight
22:06 Read EEPROM data and ISN from opened DME
- With Yanhua mini ACDP
- EEPROM data file size is 64kt and ISN data file size is 1kt
26:11 Reassemble original DME
- with Loctite SI 5970
28:56 Install the original DME back to the car!

    Thank You! I had about the same symptoms with my car. Luckily I remembered seeing this video, and checked the grounding cable. It was badly oxidized and broken. Replaced it, and everything was fine again! Kiitos! The car is same model F20 N13.

    Hi jani I have code 113026 ignition relay and injectors supply voltage short circuit to ground car will not start but cranks over dme tested by specialist no faults all in order

    Hey , great video, i have 116i n13 engine . Cylinder 4 not working i take to a mecanique he told me that i need a new dme . How can i test mine to check if its really not working ? . Thank u so much

    Thanks! 👍 It's not that easy to test. For example, there are DME repair shops on the Internet that can test and repair these. It is a good idea to rule out all other possible causes of the fault first. Replacing the DME is not a cheap fix
