Car Audio Wiring - Dual Amplifier and DSP Install

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

When installing a car audio system it is critical that the wiring for the installation is done correctly and in a robust way so that the system will be reliable and perform well. In this video I do all the wiring needed for installing two amplifiers, component and coaxial speakers, and a digital signal processor, all of which gets its signal from the retained factory radio. I cover wiring paths, using tesa tape, how to tap into a radio for the OEM signal and more!

    This would be the reason why I spent thousands of dollars paying someone else to install my stereos. This is pretty complicated and takes an incredible amount of precision, patience and attention to detail.

    I wish you lived close to me ! I would so have you install a system in my car ! You do all your work the right way no short cuts and that's the best thing to me . I would do my own but I have a bad left shoulder and the last system I installed was in a Suburban and it about kill me to install it . It came out clean like your work but I was in pain for two weeks after that build . I love your builds because that's how I would do mine ! 100%

    Hey Mark, I love your videos and they have inspired, and helped, me to build things I never thought I would be able to build. I have watched your videos on DSP's and am still a little confused about them. I would love to see a video that goes in depth on all the features and how to properly install one. And possibly a few different ways of installing one because it sounds like there is numerous different was of using these things.

    top notch install!! the only thing I would like to add is that most vehicles come with a appropriate size ground cable to handle the needs of the vehicle . with that said if your going to have an additional load on the positive side , you should upgrade the negative lead or rather add an additional ground lead the same gauge as your power lead to the amps but from the negative battery post to the to the factory grounding point. doing this helps the amps run slightly cooler and helps with light Flickering with bass .. thats my two cents for what its worth...

  • @mndlessdrwer
    @mndlessdrwer6 жыл бұрын

    This build will be super useful for me if I ever feel like adding additional amplification to my car, as the stock amplifier is tied into much more of the system functions than it should reasonably be, so the easiest thing is to just feed it all into a DSP to secure clean, flat output equalization before it gets fed into secondary amplification where necessary.

I just need to understand how to go about the fuses and power distribution. (I have the amps but I am yet to buy the cross over). 1. What AWG power and ground cables would you recommend? Both from the battery and at the equipment? 2. I noticed that you used 1 input/2 output distribution blocks for power and ground, please clarify exactly how you powered the DSP from the same power block and how it was grounded too.

    I did a similar install in my 2015 Buick Regal, meaning two amps an active LOC using the factory head unit, which currently isn't replaceable. I did however install two 15s and my bass drops off drastically at around 28 hz. It's not the enclosure because the subs stop moving even out of the enclosure. My question is, does my factory unit have a higher frequency range to prevent damage to factory speakers?

    What in-line fuse did you use for powering the DSP (the orange circle)? I just ran a wire from my amp power input block (with an in-line fuse) to my dsp, but I like the idea of using the distribution block to run it to the DSP. I just can’t seem to find one that can go from a higher gauge wire down to the smaller gauge power for the DSP.

    Does the GTO make a popping noise when the radio is turned on and off and will this harm anything, Do you recommend using the GTO or using an accessory wire turn on the device? I have the Audiocontrol LCQ-1 but I am not using the GTO just using an accessory wire to turn on the unit, I read that it makes a popping noise when turned on and off, but I like the fact that it only turns on when the radio is turned on and not all the time when the ignition is in accessory mode. I have a 2015 Honda Accord LX sedan factory radio that had 4 speakers no external amp.

    noob question here. why do you have to install a crossover if the dsp already have an integrated crossover?

    Mark G. Becaise he's only using 1 4ch f for the doors and one monoblock for the sub you can't seperate them from the crossover because the tweeter need a whole different amplifier and crossover point he can only set a lpf and leave the hpf all alone bc the x over has everything else for the tweeter he x an only achieve the tweeter seperation with 2x4ch Amps

    The tool list on your website didn't include the wire strippers. What's the make and model? They seem to work really well.

    you didn't mention this- do i need to fuse the amps separately after the distribution block??? I'm thinking of running a mono block for the subs along with my 4 channel for dash and rear side speakers. the whole setup is kicker D-series. You should do a video on fuses and fuse locations in power wires from single to multiple amps :)

    Video was great, but would have liked to have seen more detail on what fuses you used, how you hooked up the dsp and what size fuse used on dsp. I am working on a 2019 Indian chieftain. Much different and it many videos out there. Any chance you can do an install on a 2019 or newer Indian would be appreciated. Thanks for all these videos

    Daksh Kakkar Depends on how many channels you want. if u want to run more channels than the deck can handle (like if ur gonna run tweeters etc) then ud need passive cross overs where as with the DSP u wouldn't need em and it would be better

    No I haven't talk to Steve Meade about my set up, but I did speak to car audio fabricators and they told me I would be fine just by using the six channel audio control DQDX digital sound processor that I plan on using for all the 4 amps!!! Two for the sub's and two for the mids and highs since they have pre amp inputs and ouputs I can daisy chain them together and I would be fine!!!✌✌✌

    @ekim andersom It is defaulted to give a 5 volt output. You have to change the jumpers to get the 10 volt output. AudioControl is kind of lacking on the information they provide in the instruction manual. They don't even mention any of the jumpers in that manual.

    Hi, i have seen a few video on installing the car audio, they actually disconnect entirely the battery, will it be advisable to do so? my concern is the ECU (and other computerized parts in the car), with out any current running through it, will it erased any data in it causing more harm?

  • @danielvellacott4477

    you only need to disconnect the ground from the battery not both, and as for your other question, having the battery disconnected will not harm anything in your car or erase anything from the computers ( ECU). You will probably have to program your radio stations in again that is all

    Got a setup just like yours. But when the engine is on i can hear whine coming from the speakers. that follows the RPM of the engine. I can even hear it with gain on the lowest setting. Amp is a Kicker 700.5ZX and original speakers.

    Ground RCA to the side of the head unit and possibly at the amp. More than likely routed with power/remote. Routing on the opposite side of vehicle from the power/remote greatly reduces the chance of signal interference. If neither of those options work for you, it's quite possible that it's the head unit. In which case they have "noise filters", but I have no experience with that product. Hope one of these ideas solve the issue.

    I know this is an older video but when useing the passive crossover with a dsp wouldn't that make it impossible to tune the woofer and tweeter separate because the dsp would see it as 1 speaker?

  • @richardmiddleton5984

    @richardmiddleton5984

    Exactly! Pretty much a waste of money buying a $700 DSP, and then using passive crossovers. Especially a DSP that has 10 outputs, and could have easily been set up to tune the tweeters separately from the mid-range speakers.

  • @600zxr

    @600zxr

    shawn freshmane The DM-810 is much more user friendly and the 3sixty has been known to have lots of problems. Helix is the popular top DSP if you want a crazy amount of expandability. I'm using the DM-810 due to low price and ease of use. My car is a daily driver with a fair amount of road noise so a bit one or Helix is way out of my need.
