The Fused distribution block is not for protecting the equipment. It's for protecting the wire! The fuse you have installed on any wire should always be to match that wire's length and gauge. Whenever you split the power into several smaller gauge wires, you're suppose to have a smaller fuse for each wire. HOWEVER with how short the runs are for power to your amplifiers, this isn't the biggest safety concern, and the line is still fused from the primary wire so you won't start any fires, but you do run the small risk of toasting your wires, the risk is just very minimal. Just thought I'd share

Thanks Lessco, digg the info you give out. I'm looking to run a 5 Amplifier system. The main amp is a 5 channel that will run front components, rear coaxial, and 2 door shallow mount subs. As you can see that pretty much takes up the front, rear, and sub RCA's from the back of the head unit. My question is what or how can I get a signal to the other 4 amplifiers I plan on having to run the 4-15 inch subs? Think you can do a table layout or drawing video on how I can pull this off. Thanx

This video is wonderful. I have been doing mobile electronics / installations for almost thirty years (professionally for several years in my late teens/early 20's) and I've watched a lot of KZread videos on the subject. In my opinion this video has some of the most correct/accurate information packed into a relatively short amount of time, that I've ever seen. Basically zero misinformation or bad advice. My guess is this guy has been doing this for a long time... Make sure to LIKE this video and say Thanks to the guy for taking the time to make this video and spread good advice/practices. The more people that LIKE this video, the more people that will see it! (and there will be less fires / blown up electronics in the process!)

Great video and Thx for the input! I'm actually about to install my system within the next 1-2days and Just had a couple questions... For one I'll be running two amps, one RF type x2.c which is a 200w 2channel which will be going to my rf T2 components in the front doors and that's it, and I also have an RF 1501bd mono amp pushing 1500rms @2.. So I want to run 0gau to the mono, how would you suggest running my power wire/s? Would I just run 0ga all the way down to the mono and splice in a 4ga wire to the 2channel? I have all kinds of dist. blocks and Tblocks that I can use also... And if I'm able to do that, once I splice the power wire, would I then need a Anl 150 fuse for the mono and a smaller fuse for the 2channel? Also how do you suggest running my remote wires through my system? Sry for all the question but I'm just kinda stuck, been hearing 17636862 things and not sure what's right, and I'd love the PDf you have - se77en221@gmail.com. Thx! Much Appreciated

Great video for beginners, but the one thing that is wrong, is that anytime you are wiring two or more amps, or adding signal processors, it is always advisable to use a relay on the remote turn on wire, as most remote turn leads do NOT supply enough amperage to turn on multiple components, and the head unit remote output can be damaged by the excessive current draw. The maximum output current is usually never listed by any radio manufacturers, neither is the current draw listed by amp manufacturers. Just trying to help save people from un necessary head unit repairs.

question, right now I have a single 4 channel amp(400rms) playing mid/ hights on chnl 1 and 2 and chnl 3/4 are bridged for sub,, I'm plannin on putting another amp in to the sub but my question is about the power, I have a round fuse holder as you have in the video with a 60 amp fuse for the amp currently then that goes from 4g into a T block as you have also and an 8g from one output of the block to the amp, the amp is fused with a 30amp fuse... the second amp I want to put in is a crunch ds400 which also has a 30 amp fuse I think, but my worry is with the main fuse and fuse block, can I use the unused connection from the T block to power the amp for sub? If yes do I have to upgrade the main fuse holder rating or can it stay at 60amps... alsssoooo do I instead have to buy a fuse block with one in and multiple fuses out?.. I hurried to ask this question and if anyone can help please it will be greatly appreciated, you an even email me or contact me anything, I just dont want to make any mistakes and cause a fire or blow my amp/s even tho they have replacenable fuses

Hello, I learned a lot of things in this video. I just had one question, can I put two capacitors?, one for each amp. I was thinking of putting a power distribution block with ANL fuses for powering up my 2 amps, starting with a 0 gauge wire and then distributing it in 2 of 4 gauge wires. My 2 ANL fuses, one will be 50 AMP and one will be a 25 AMP, because my 4 channel amp has a 50 amp fuse and my 2 channel uses a 25 amp fuse. So is it okay to power distribute each amp with its own capacitor. And as you said, I will also ground each amp alone in separate places and to far from each other by at least 1-2 feet.

Daniel Mejia yes. The fuse is there to protect the wires and the components the wires connected to in the case of a short . In the event your wire gets to hot or shorts out the fuse will break stopping the current flow to the components . Always always always use fuses. The top post terminals he's showing in this video are just other options you have to the distribution blocks. Basically all those top terminals are are distribution blocks , nothing more nothing less.

Ok so I have two Alpine amps I want to install, the MRV f300 and MRV M500 and both have set screw terminals. One takes 4 gauge and the other 8 gauge only. Is it ideal to run 4 gauge for the main power into a power distribution block and run out one 4 gauge and the other 8 gauge for each amp? Or should both wires be the same gauge? Same for ground

You should give the amp the largest gauge input that it calls for in the specifications. or as close as possible anyways...

Ruben Santillana use the rca output in the back of the head unit to the input of the amp, and if you don't have any you would need to install a inline converter

This was incredibly helpful. But I still need help. Soooo, I am gutting and remodeling a 32 foot 1988 RV into a mobile tailgating party lounge here in Arizona. I was going to put in two amps 800 and 550watts for speaker and the subs, respectively. Now I am thinking I need the 800 for the subs, is this right? I am putting in 4-6 10 inch subs (Cervin Vega and JBL) . Definitely going with Fosgate amps now that you described them here. How many speakers can I put in this thing? 8? 12? I have no clue on how to achieve the best sound. Can you help me in the design process? Some speaker are going up high where the cabiinets use to be. Others are going down low in the built in seat (fronts), the subs are also going in below the seats

I have a amp question. Is it ok to run interior speakers with a class d amp? I've heard from people that the mids and highs amp should be class ab....just wondering. Thank you

  • @Lesscoelectronics

Andrew Oliver The major advantage of a class D amplifier is that it can be more efficient than analog amplifiers, with less power dissipated as heat in the active device. Typically class d amps are designed for high wattage grunt force and lack full range amps features, If that class d amp you have offers all the features (like a high pass filter you would most likely need) I say go for it.

It has a high and low pass filter, but the downside is it only goes up to 500hz. Its an Eclipse XA4200 by the way

My question is, if you run one 0 gauge wire from the battery to a distributor block and two 4 gauge wires out, would it still be a 4 gauge setup to the two amps? Also I would like a copy of your PDFs file pls

+jdrobertson76 if the main leg is 0 and the amp only takes up to a 4 ga input. that would still be a 0ga run. if the amp takes 0ga in, get a 0ga distribution block to maintain that integrity. I hope that made sense!

SwaggyD I was thinking about getting a kinkek battery 800watts. Cause I wanted to buy a hi output alternator bit not sure if I have to bypass my ELD with a relay or just put 2batteries in parallel with an isolator. It's an 07 fit 90amp alternator.

When using an SPDT relay for amp turn wire. How big of a fuse should I use for the 12v+ constant? its a 40 amp relay but the current needed for my turn on accessories are 2 amplifiers and one battery isolator. The battery isolator is about 1 amp, and the 2 amplifiers are about 200 miliamps each. Would I use a 2 amp fuse on the relays 12v + constant?

  • @InSpadez

Lessco Electronics Yeah, I actually forgot the car has a factory amplifier (Bose). So thats another 200 miliamps. In that case, I should be using a 2 amp then? Also, I heard that you should be fusing the remote lines that are going to the devices, is this true? If thats the case, then I should be using say 200 miliamp fuses for the amplifiers (I have some 250 miliamp fuses would these be okay?) and a 1 amp fuse for the battery isolator? Thanks for your response btw.

since 200ma is only 1/5 of 1 amp, the 2 amps I suggested initially is still way more than sufficient.

I could be totally wrong but basically when you're hooking up your power wire to your battery the reason they want your connection very close to your fuse part is because it becomes loose you don't have a hot 12 volt wire thing going around you know flopping around hitting something grounding out so whenever you put your fuse holders or fuse holder near your battery make sure that you tie your wires up so if they do come loose they don't ground out on anything so zip tied to whatever but just make sure that if it come loose it won't ground out cuz then you got a hot wire then through your whole vehicle catching stuff on fire and it doesn't take but just a split second and your s*** is on fire. Just because you got a fuse on your amp doesn't mean you don't don't need one at the battery you need them at both places cuz that the one at the battery protects the wire and like you said fuse distribution blocks a must if you got a distribution block and you have four things coming off of it and they're all different sizes you need to have a fuse for every one of your components coming off of it just cuz you have a fuse at the battery that mean you don't have to have independent fuses on each item at the back you have to fuse each one of those independently also he probably said all that I was trying to reiterate and help but the great video thank you

Fabian Jimenez you need to reconnect the crossovers main input to the stereos output directly (per channel that is, left and right).
