Capture One: RAW Storage Options and the Library Tool Panel

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Capture One offers a variety of ways to store your raw files. It can follow Lightroom's system or directories, or create a wide variety of others through the token based directory naming system. However, it can also use a unique method called "inside catalog" where Capture One manages the details. Catalogs become self contained and can be moved from drive to drive and computer to computer without having to move or relocate the images separately.

Hello and thank you for your work !! As i understood ( i'm french and you speek incredibly fast lol), you 're working with "sessions" but in catalog^^ However i have one question ; I'm curently working with sessions that i import afterwards in my archieve cat : In fact i need this general cat because i'm using a lot s of collections, smartalbums with metadatas ; i create lots of categories which are going into my portfolio... Like you re doing, it s impossible to have a general view ; i understand the concept but i 'm sure there is a way to manage my whole catalog when working with sessions or cat like you ..I WOULD LIKE because C1 doesn t manage very well 80k pictures !! when you click on "all files" it takes houres for C1 to "read" all the files !!!!! Bests regards from Colmar, FR...and happy new year ! JF

How about using Sessions that are based on each project/photo shoot? Instead of catalog? If I understand correctly, sessions are also portable and they contain the raw files within them.

I just bought the D850 recently, because I need to connect the capture one to do the work, but the photo can save in my computer but it can't save in the camera's memory card..

Very useful video!! Best i've seen so far concerning C1. I have one question though. When working in a catalog, and you add picture to it using 'in catalog', is it possible that when you have imported the pictures and you right click on one, and want to locate it, or show in finder/explorer, it's greyed out? Is that because the whole add 'in catalog' is a self contained/structured process? Or am i missing something? Hope you have an answer. Greetings from the Netherlands!

That is a good question. "Inside Catalog" means capture one manages it and so they disable the obvious way to find the originals. The idea is that it isn't like a normal directory even though it is if you dig into it. To find the original, you have to use Finder or Explorer and navigate inside the catalog directory (on mac, use "Show Package Contents") and then the "Originals" sub-folder. From there, you just sort of have to dig around if you don't remember the date you imported it, or use your OS's file search system inside that directory. In general, you shouldn't mess with the RAW files or store other stuff with them if you use "Inside Catalog" because Capture One assume you won't and it could break things. If you want to store retouched PSD/AFPHOTO source files, or similar formats CO doesn't recognize with your RAW files, you should build a custom "Choose Location" based structure and then those can live side by side.

Is there a way to see everything inside a parent folder like a wedding folder yyyymmdd Mary and John but inside i have "Raws" "JPG" "Proof" "Gifts" "For Album" "Frames". LR has a switch to see inside subfolders.

thank you so much! Your pace and level of depth is exactly what I needed. I hate not knowing what these programs are doing behind the scenes.

Completely lost by ten minutes by his style of presentation, nothing is planned and he seems to repeat what he says so often you lose track of what he says.
