Am I the only one who actually loved heart as a child? I honestly think that heart represents love and compassion. As an animal lover he represents that love for creatures. I don't think heart was useless. Honestly they should bring it back, just how they did with Carmen Sandiego.

You forgot that Margot Kidder (Lois Lane) voiced Gaia in the New Adventures. And also Heart is totally misunderstood. It basically made Ma-Ti a telepath! The ring portrays mind-reading, astral projection, communication, sonar, empathy, and if Ma-Ti wanted to trample you with Rhinos, or sic a pack of wolves on you, he could. Heart had MIND CONTROL! This makes it the best ring full stop.

Heart was actually brilliant in the context of the show. The representation of the 6th sense of nature, tied in with breathing lifeforms and the undertone of love

Empathy and telepathy are really powerful if used right.

This show is what got me interested in the environment and I am now studying environmental science because of this show's influence!

Heart is actually very powerful. If Ma'ti wasn't so caring, heart could mess anyone up by controlling them.

There was an episode that explained the reason for the element of Heart was bc Captain Planet needed the ability to emote and have feelings. They should have expanded on it and made it where he could have influenced ppl more. As 80's-90's kids everything was already sugarcoated. We had enough bubblegum and fun in other cartoons and multimedia, we needed some harsh truths. The show wasn't perfect but it was needed bc adults weren't too keen on sharing the truth w each other, let alone minors. Maybe if more kids shows were like this the Amazon wouldn't be burning.... Not everything is for everybody so I get that many wouldn't care for CP, but your delivery was condescending and kinda fckd up.

I was a 90’s kid in El Salvador when I watched this show. I was never offended by Mati being the only or first hispanic character at all. Actually, I really preferred Linka, and I always wanted to learn Russian because of her. I used to watch all the shows from the US (dubbed of course) and never felt offended by any of those shows. To me they were just great cartoons. I used to love CP because it touched on very strong subjects. My favorite episode was about the kid with AIDS. I remember there being an AIDS epidemic, and how people were being told how contagious it is. Watching that show, really changed my perspective on AIDS. I was under 10 years old when I watched this show. Regarding Mati’s “lame power,” you need love and compassion to care about people and the environment. Something that we world does need.

In my head Mati's power of Heart is the most important of all. Why? Without it, there will be no will, or heart, to control all combined four elements. Without Heart, there won't be Captain Planet, it'll just be an unfeeling force of hurricanes, earthquakes, tidal waves and firestorms combined. A literal raging force of nature.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having real life issues in a kid friendly format. We all see life happening around us as children why shouldn't we see it in a cartoon to help us make sense of it? Also it was the 80s people didn't think kids needed to be coddled and overprotected, and they don't.

Reboot the Captain Planet cartoon and make a live action movie where they battle global warming.

Heart is actually the most powerful one. It seems lame -- but Mahti (sp?) basically got telepathy, mind control, and other psychic powers. He was literally connected to every living creature.

"Heart is lame" Mati LITERALLY concurs the planet in an alternate timeline because the power of Heart is the power to control all living beings, but do continue.

Even though he was far from my favorite, Ma-Ti was the "glue"/lynch pin that held the Planeteers together--yes, yes, he was cast in the "healer/mom/cheerleader role that is usually occupied by a female (at least in literally tropes) but he embodied a two-fold aspect for the show. He represented humanity and their greatest asset in "caring" about the environment, and being the "heart" of the show/group of Planeteers. Look no further than the episode in which Zarm was able to convenience the Planeteers to use his gauntlets of conquest; all of the planeteers fell for Zarm's power gloves except Ma-Ti.

Excuse me but you don't have the level of enlightenment to understand the importance of heart and why Gaia included that. The only thing that is so bad is your commentary right now thank you very much.

As a latinx kid in the 90s, Ma-Ti was one of my favorite characters and heart still is an incredible power!

Appreciate learning a lot interesting facts about my favorite old school cartoons, but thumbs down for the constant nitpicking of my childhood. Not everything was "cringe worthy," it's a product of the time. Also, to an extent, I miss PSAs in cartoons. As a kid, they helped with situations we didn't think to ask, or know how to ask, our parents about. My two cents...

Heart is an amazing power. It is essentially telepathy, mind control, empathy and ESP all rolled into one ring. He could destroy a small town by summoning a stampede or he could make you off yourself. Not as flashy as a fireball but if he were an X-Man he would have a movie by now.

I think we should bring back the cartoon psa... it helped reinforce all the things that parents were trying to teach their children and helped kids bring up topics that maybe parents had no clue about.

We never saw the full potential of Heart because Gaia gave it to the right person. Mati would never misuse the power. There was even an episode where the former spirit of the earth offered to bypass the failsafe Gaia put on the rings so it couldn't be abused. Mati was told that if he unlocks it he can control all the minds on the planet but Mati turned it down. Stating "Gaia gave us all the power we need"

Wait so... A cartoon that wasn't afraid of real problems and wanted to treat kids as intelligent and showed those real problems is ... A problem. Kids are impressionable, not dumb and the show (for any lame quip riddled short coming this chick could say) is the absolute best way to go about creating a show. Preaching about a show being to preachy is hypocritical. If it is preachy it will speak for itself. And decades later people still remember this show so I think it already has

This was one of my favourite childhood animated series when I was a kid. But what's shocking about it is I didn't realise it had very dark moments.

I think the heart part is about the power of love, many people say love is the most powerful force...

Idk but I find many of the issue in captain planet still highly relavent today. I mean the rainforest is on fire for crying out loud

Captain Planet rules, Heart was actually the most powerful of the rings, and providing gripping and real back stories gave kids something to relate to and be empathic to. You should have done a little bit of research before bashing on this show. A kid show that was edgy, had a impactful message, and wasn't just about happy mindless fluff? Yes. Why would you even try to bash on a show like this? You are wrong on so many points.

Heart is the strongest one. You can literally make a villain a good guy.

I personally quite liked Captain Planet. I understand some of what shes bashing, but some of it is easily explained by watching the show. Like why Heart was actually among the best powers on the show.

We as a group are only as strong as our weakest link. And this lady shows how hateful our people are to things so heartfelt. Heart is the one that keeps everyone together.
