I know right when he mentioned Spike I'm still like Spike wasn't even that big of a character for the series he literally disappeared after his second seasonand x-23 sure only appeared in a handful of episodes but dominated and was only character to my knowledge that had a prominent role that made their appearance from this in the comics

Given that Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost created her for the show and then also adapted her for the comics, was really surprised she didn't get a mention. Spyke was fine, though given his connection to Storm and powerset felt derivative of Marrow, even though the showrunners insisted that was a coincidence

I mean if only if you count all the character development and fleshing out of who she was as a person and not just Wolverine but female. Or the fact that her stint as Wolverine was something special and her own thing, and the fact that she's a fan favorite who is beloved in many versions and without whom the fantastic film Logan wouldn't have happened. But if you forget all that...

I loved how the lines between good and evil were blurry and many characters crossed from one to the other. Avalanche was a typical bad boy but when he wanted to impress Kitty he could clean up his act. And when the good girls were tired of sticking to the straight and narrow, they walked on the wild side as vigilantes. Only to be bailed out by Mystique of all people. Even Cyclops got tired of playing by the rules and some times just wanted to beat the bad guys just to rub it in. I found them relatable if not always admirable.

I NEVER FORGOT X-men Evolution. It still is the best childhood memory, I have.
I really enjoyed X-Men: Evolution (in ways, more than the Saban show). Evolution really brought the X-franchise home to Wilmar Shiras's "Children of the Atom" that X-Men was likely based on. Come on, "Xavier's School for Gifted Children" generally implies that the X-Men should generally be younger in age. Like Shiras's characters, the stories were so character driven, and centered around the "school" having mutant students attend a local public school to provide some transparency while honing their abilities on the private school grounds. In "Children of the Atom", that was the professor's solution after an evil televangelist led an angry mob into thinking that mutants were the antichrist (sounds sort of like a story that came around 3 decades later, doesn't it). It was in the character-driven writing that the story approached some very deep subjects without necessarily watering down popular comic stories. The story where Tabitha's estranged father breaks the restraining order and tries manipulating her into using her powers for crime. X-23's introduction to the world was a character-defining story about how she's different from everyone (a little less different from Logan). To be robbed of her entire future so that someone else can weaponize you... That is a very heavy subject. Then, that disturbing story about how Magneto (through Mastermind) manipulated Wanda in order to get her to be more trusting and obedient toward him. The show had one of the most fascinating Apocalypse stories (IMO), tied with when Brian K. Vaughn made Sinister a serial killer killing mutants as tribute to an Apocalypse shrine that he believed could speak to him. The show even gave Destiny a speaking role. That's something that the Saban series never gave us, and it's the closest that we've had to Raven and Irene having a LGBTQ relationship together outside of the comic medium.

@kencoleman5007

@@kaygamer1561 Those weren't just one epode things, (as you dismissively summed them up to be). Scarlet Witch's relationship with Magneto was a multiple episode "thing", and a core reason of why she was more comfortable living with Mystique, as long as she didn't know Magneto was lurking in the shadows. The Tabitha episode started showing how she was different from the rest of the new class, and as strong part of why she had moved out of Xavier's residential building.

Besides missing the fact that this series introduced X-23, there were a bunch of cultural references that I'm surprised weren't mentioned. For instance, you brought up Buffy, but didn't include the scene in which Kitty and Rogue are dancing together for Spike's film project-- a scene that pays homage to Buffy and Faith dancing in the Bronze, move for move. Also, the episode highlighting the girls in "Walk on the Wildside" has a slowed-down scene where they walk through the hallways-- another direct homage to a scene from The Craft. I believe there are many more examples, but I adore the references to all of the late-90s and early-00s movies and tv shows!

What about Wolverine & The X men, which somehow loosely followed up/continued where X Men: Evolution left off???

X-Men evolution and Wolverine the X-Men where their own show they were not connected in any way

@@redrussell2159 Technically speaking, there were some slight design updates that carried over from X-Men: Evolution into Wolverine & the X-Men. Also, if you did see the last X-Men: Evolution eps, where Professor X saw Jean Grey being possesed by the Phoenix Force, the very FIRST EPS, of Wolverine & the X-Men, loosely *CONFIRMED* , Professor X's prophecy(visual prophecy, i.e.) of Jean Grey---in spite of him, ending up in a coma. There were also connections to the '92 X-Men series, as well; like Sinister, the Sentinel robots & of course, Apocalypse(who appeared in the '92 X-Men series, Evolution & was teased @ the end of Wolverine & the X-Men)!

@@theonlymatthew.l I don't own *ANY* of the comics. My theories are based on what I watched on T.V. & on DVD @ the point in time. It is from there, I made the connection with X-Men: Evolution & Wolverine & the X-Men. I'm well aware that the '92 X-Men series was different from the 2 modern updates, that were made. I made the X-Men: Evolution/ Wolverine & the X-Men connection after WATCHING both of those series on T.V. & DVD.

Funny as hell that my favorite voice actors from Inuyasha are on this show: Richard Ian Cox, Kirby Morrow, Scott McNeil, and Kelly Sheridan. Also, I like Nightcrawler.
I hope you also do an episode on Wolverine and the X-Men! Please, it’s a very underrated show in my opinion. It only got one season unfortunately. If you watch the entire thing it can sometimes feel like a continuation of Evolution. It has all the same characters, grown up with updated outfits, AND the show starts out with the Phoenix saga. I know, I know, if you’ve already seen it you can say the cliffhanger of season 1 doesn’t ad up with Evolution but I still enjoy it for the character arcs and just straight up the heroes and villains we didn’t get to see in Evolution. It’s an old show now but much like Evolution I’d gladly welcome a continuous season of Wolverine and the X-Men
That was a good show. Release the complete series already.

Dude I grew up with X-Men: The Animated Series and I spent my teenhood watching Evolution so yes there's room for both in my heart.
Several of the main people behind this show went on to make Wolverine and the X-Men and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Craig Kyle, Chris Yost, and Boyd Kirkland were responsible for some of the best Marvel animated shows and they tried to create an interconnected universe like the DCAU but Marvel was never able to do it.
I fucking absolutely love this cartoon. I can’t speak highly enough about it I love this one so much more than the 90s my friends and I used to get up every Saturday morning and watch it on kids WB. We were greatly saddened to figure out there was supposed to be a fifth season but it was canceled. Oh I can’t believe you didn’t do any of the fact that the voices are also all in Inuyasha.

Some times I wish I was born in the early 200's 😢
I use to record X-Men: Evolution in the early 2000s. I liked that show and was mad it stopped
I used to love watching this show on Saturdays, I liked how it showed the characters as teens in this one. I also liked wolverines orange costume.
8:27 I guess we're NOT going to mention this scene plays like the walking scene from The Craft. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mJpm19urYLfVZLw.html
It's called a ( get back whip). It's traditionally attached to the handlebars. If you can hit someone with it they are too close.
Scott McNeil voicing an orange suit Wolverine. That plus many other reasons, is why this show is my favorite.
This is one of my favorite X-Men tv shows!
Yes, I missed out on x-men: Evolution but why are you talking like this had been the end, not mentioning the X-Men: Animated Series from 2011. Because it´s more like Anime/Manga? I really liked it.
Unlike X-Men TAS, this show had actual character development, better voice acting, creative action, the X-Men felt like an actual family, the uniforms were cooler, Apocalypse had actual build-up and the way the world reacted to the existence of mutants felt believable (going from disbelief, to confusion and then to fear). They weren't even afraid using LGBTQ metaphors. Plus, the series gave us X-23.

Yes! LGBT metaphors?
X-Men evolution had the only Jean I approved of. The OG X-Men show had her fainting too much lol. I also appreciate that they intentionally made jean and Scott kids so there wouldn't be the silly Logan/Jean/Scott love triangle. The only thing I wished was the show featured Storm more. Hell, I wish every X-Men show and movie would use Storm more 🤷🏾

Yeah nice that they did not have a kitty/piotr/lance/bobby drama as well. I mean if they did do it, it'll be honestly kinda interesting too
This is the X-Men show i grew up with. This started airing around when i was between 10 and 13 years old.
Craig Kyle and Chris Yost also wrote many, many X-Men comics at Marvel during and after Evolution.
Watch Wolverine and the X-men next
7:47 Fun fact: There isn't a single scene in the entire show, where Kitty dances at a disco. There is a scene where she dances exactly like that (in the episode "Spike Cam"), but it's outside, in the garden of the x-mansion, not in a disco.
Y'all need to do an episode on Extreme Ghostbusters!
