It's the nicest airport lounge I've ever been in. Loved the design and also food options were actually legitimately competitive w/ a priority pass restaurant (if given the option between a priority pass restaurant and any actual lounge, I would choose the former... with this notable exception). So nice that it'd honestly be a reasonable tiebreaker to file w/ American through DFW rather than United through IAH for a connection, all else being equal (i.e. flight pricing, status).
Because of your video I went ahead and applied for the Venture X card using your affiliate link and got instantly approved with a $30,000 credit line! I also have the CSR since 2016. Keep up the great work on the videos.

Regardless of the benefits and earning/redemption rate, the Venture X is the only premium travel card out there that pays you to hold their card year after year and gives PP to four of your siblings at no charge. A game changer card.

That was an excellent comparison. I feel like I understand the benefits of the cards so much better and I've made my decision because it's free to add users onto my Capital One card and they have free lounge access, where Chase doesn't offer that benefit.
This is exactly the video I was waiting for!
The Venture X LOST ME at travel portal. I just don’t hate myself enough to deal with any travel portal anymore. Too much of a headache when things needs to be changed or when flights get cancelled.
I have venture card now for 7 years and i'm thinking to upgrade to venture X with all benefits. Thank you Sebby
Hey Sebby, been a viewer for years, and you've always been my favorite creator in this area. If you're looking at comments, I come with a video request/suggestion: "Best consistent redemption options for Amex/Chase". I've watched hundreds of videos (from all creators) showing "Book Business class to London for 40k with $5 fee only, etc", but in 3 years of frequent traveling I've never found something quite like that, and I look every time. But, for example, during those years, I've transferred ~400k~ UR to high end Hyatt resorts and always had simple use with a high cpp rate. I want to know, what are "Hyatt"s are out there, that are consistently available that I'm missing out on.
Great video I'm considering the capital one card
Just wanted to say thanks for all your videos! I asked your opinion on the venture x vs CSR a couple months ago, you kindly replied to my comment. I ended up getting the venture x a couple of days ago and used your link, so I hope you get the credits. Thanks again!!!

Nice overview! Unfortunately I'm still within my 4 years of having a sapphire card so the choice was easy! Also on cellphone protection, the no AF Freedom Flex comes with it too!
i have the preferred. I already have a venture and got the invitation to upgrade with a nice bonus without getting another inquiry so it was the perfect situation
For my usage & lifestyle, capital one x over amex plats & CSR. Just more simple. Less games to play to justify fees. Latest round of credits don’t really justify yearly membership fee increases for me.
I hope the Venture X puts pressure on Chase for the CSR. At the $450 AF with a $300 travel credit, it was a no brainer. However at $550 and Doordash credit and Lyft Pink not continuing into 2022, it is a tough sell.

I also have both CSR and now have the venture X. I can see myself keeping the venture X long term but the verdict is still out on the CSR. I’ve been using Lyft pink mainly to get free grub hub deliveries which pairs well with my Amex gold but that doesn’t justify the $250 affective annual fee. Also I just booked a hotel with the Capitol one portal and it was MUCH smoother than using the chase travel portal. The flight portal is familiar since I used hopper in the past. Also the price drop protection for flights is a nice pro. I don’t have much experience with customer service yet but the few times I’ve had to call they have been great.
great video!
Hey Sebby, great video. Are you planning to create a video to assess which CC will be best from a benefits perspective for different use cases. E.g. for car rental - would CSR be best considering primary coverage or for air travel - would Amex Bonvoy be best considering life, trip delay and baggage coverage? I do that assessment when I travel which adds a lot of value to a card especially while traveling.
I'm so excited about my new VX card. I never thought I'll be this excited over a CC.
Really random, but I can recognize a Cosmopolitan room from any angle! 😅
I think the big question remains is how good is the Capital One Portal. If it’s at a cost parity to the cash price, this would be the preferred card for the casual traveler. They are basically paying you to travel. If Capital One didn’t hate me so much, I would apply for myself and p2 while the bonus is so sweet.
Great comparison! I’m still waiting to see how people are liking the Venture X before going for it. My hope is that, if nothing else, the added competition will make Chase and AMEX want to up their game even more. Thanks for the great video Sebby!

@J M keeping venture x would mean using on the capitol one’s portal for all travel needs. Are you fine with that?
So I started with Chase Freedom card like 7-8 years ago as my starter card to build credit. I’ve built my credit up and since Covid started to spend money on home office, and Chase has pre approved me for the Chase Sapphire Reserve so I’m considering taking advantage of that, as I will be moving later this year so I would actually use the spend limit in 1st/3mo for point bonus. Very interested in learn more about credit cards and how to build credit but also how to use them in a way where they pay me back.

I plan on getting VX but make no mistake, 2-3 trips is enough for CSR to be a bigger cost save. Especially domestic with those airline partners.
Super torn between the two. Chase has great transfer partners but Capital one's fees plus other perks make up for it. I already have Savor and CS with Capital One has been a breeze. I see plenty of negative ones on Chase. I think I need someone to toss a coin for me since I might do the Savor piggy back with Venture X
One of my biggest concerns will be seeing how the Capital One customer service/travel portal will be. Only time will tell, but for a premium card, they definitely need to step up their game! As for the CSR, I can't justify it, especially with the Amex Platinum in my wallet!

I use CSR for United mileage, which I tend to use on Air Canada. On AC, United miles are often much better than Aeroplan.
Which one would you say is better to spend money overseas? The bonus points through the portals are great, but I was looking at the chase portal (as I already have the freedom one) and the portal prices of flights and accommodation overseas in europe for example, is WAAYYY more expensive! it kinda makes the portal ridiculous unless you're travelling domestic (which I don't plan on doing this year).
I have the chase preferred and am looking at keeping preferred and getting venture x. I like the chase because of the dining points.
Great review as i look to upgrade from CSP to either CSR or venture X. I’m curious if anyone out there is using the chase trifecta and has a Venture X card. I’m still in the research mode. Thank you for the great content
For long term it would be the CSR for me solely because I live in a delta hub and frequently transfer points to Virgin Atlantic to book delta award flights since delta skymiles typically aren't worth much. I was able to book direct flight to Hawaii from MSP for 45000 Virgin Atlantic points rather than the cash price of 1000+ dollars

personnally living in the EU that 2X on every purchase (venture x) is huge
Capital One getting better and better. Amex coupon book approach may be too much for some. Let the migration to Venture X begin...
I share your appreciation of Hyatt points, but don't want to commit fully to the Chase system at this point, when I'm less than a year into Amex Gold and Platinum. So I use the platinum for its benefits and multiples, the gold for groceries (easily $1000 a month) and the Chase World of Hyatt Visa for everything else - Amazon, utilities, PayPal transactions, etc. I can easily get 2-2.5 cpp at the places I usually book.
Will be going for the Us bank altitude reserve and capital one venture x

Hahaha soft inquiry 🤣🤣 you sold me there
I do not have either but even with $150 more for CSR makes more sense as they do not force you to use their portal which may always have higher prices than any 3rd party booking service.
@mrjohncollins
2 жыл бұрын
They don’t make you use their portal? My biggest hesitation with all travel cards is the fact that using there portal cost more money than 3rd party sites so it’s hard for me to calculate if the savings are worth it, or if I’m just getting points instead of the cash I would have saved booking elsewhere. Meaning a good budget is better than any card…?

I don't get why you think CSR is pushing their portal less than Venture X? CSR gives you a points multiplier for using their portal. VX does not.
Thanks for posting this video! I'm looking to get the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, but from what I'm finding, the 100K welcome bonus has ended :( I contacted Chase and they said to check with friends who got the 100K offer and see if they have a referral. Do you have a referral link for the Chase Sapphire Preferred 100K welcome bonus?
Would love to see you make a video on the Amex Platinum vs VentureX 👍🏻
I disagree with Sebby’s valuation of C1 points (0.5 cpp). They can be used to book through the travel portal @ 1 cpp, and the portal’s prices are not inflated (for every trip I searched, flight and hotel prices the same as the results returned by aggregators like Google Flights)
I found out that Reps usually do that in order to help the bank that they work for than their customers. If they let everyone dwongrade or upgrade then they don't gain money from the AF
I hear the rationale for the math explained for the CSR. Stand alone it's what you say. With the Unlimited and flex included with general spending multipliers higher and redeemed with the CSR I don't see a negative.. just waiting now to position the bonus spending to a time I know it will be easy.
Does the 524 rule apply to Amex charge cards or only credit cards?
Chase is great for My family since we usually use Southwest and Hyatt.
pay a little more for the CSR...Capital One customer service is complete shit. If you have to report fraud or use their insurance, they don't have the consumers back.
In a month or so I'll be getting the venture x and downgrade the CSR when the annual fee comes due. Hard to get the value for me with traveling less.
Just got my Venture X. I tried to book on cap travel for flight to Cancun to use the $300 annual bonus. Prices are comparable to whats posted on the airline (AA) in this case but once i get to the final step to pay, the ope up says price has increased. Its happened 2 days in a row. 50 a ticket yesterday and today its up 100. Thats alot considering im buying for 6 people and eats up that $300 bonus. This is kinda shady for Cap 1. I'll just book direct with AA since I have status there.
Wells fargo is offering card switch from the platinum card to the active cash card. In the past, they would close one account&open a new account for the new card, causing loss of account history. Did they change that now with this new card?
Thanks for the video Sebby. I am considering applying for the Venture X card and one of the considerations is downgrade options that will allow me to keep the points and pay no annual fee. Through some quick Googling, I saw that the Capital One has the VentureOne card (with zero annual fee) and the card apparently has transfer partners too (15+ partners according to the VO page). Have you taken a look into this? Whether the downgrade to the VO would allow you to keep the points? And whether the transfers are maintained at the same transfer rates as the VX? If yes to both questions, I would think that this is another advantage that the VX has over the CSR. Chase doesn't have an option for you to keep your points and transfer options at zero annual fee.
@CLGilbert
