I reserved this lens to photograph my son who was born last year. It will be active in the gymnasium and stage!

It’s way more sick when you see it in person. But the performance on this baby is truly something else.

I have the holy grail rf combo: RF 28-70mm F2L + RF 100-300mm F2.8L I’m waiting to test the 100-300mm. Great review

Nice lens, indeed... Below 300mm, it is quite natural to compare the lens to the RF 70-200 F2.8L IS USM. But, when using the 1.4x or the 2x extender to go beyond 300mm, it seems natural to compare it to the RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM. After all, between 300mm and 500mm, there is only between 2/3 and 1 1/3 stop difference. The RF 100-500mm is an exceptional lens...

Hi Fred, yes the RF 100-500 is an amazing and versatile lens. I think the f/2.8 maximum aperture is quite impressive to have that on a zoom lens that can go to 300mm without any TC.

The lens gives you options photographers didn't have before. It's not for everyone obviously.

Crop sensors don't make the lens longer, they just photograph the center half of the image. Your claim is like saying that viewing the photos with a magnifying glass increases the resolution (it doesn't).

The lengths of the two are close ( rf 70-200mm f/2.8 and rf 100-300m f/2.8) , yes. What is more important here is how preferable the user would find the Rf 100-300mm f/2.8 to pay an average of $7,000 more for the 100mm zoom. My guess is that this lens will be used with rental rather than purchase.

I would buy it because I know how useful it was for me. It would replace my 70-200 and also be able to expand its range with TC if need be. But yes, a great rental option for many folks.

you could use this lens for 3 or 4 years, and probably only loose 10% in resale. Just look at the RF400 (and Nikon’s 120-300). They are still going for a premium. A lot of people get hung up on the purchase price, but these things help you make money by standing out, plus they have proven to be a pretty good business investment. Way better than any car or motorcycle. 😆
