@@Kashilembo It really depends on what I am doing. Currently working a lot with dance so I have to be prepared to be on the fly. The 20 mm is probably the most used along with the 50 1.4 as well as the 20-35 NFD L and 35-105 NFD. I haven't personally used the 24, 28 and 35 F 2.8 much yet but will give them a try very soon!

@@Kashilembo the 20 -35 L for sure amazing contrast and you have 4 focal lengths in one lens, the downside is the minimum focus distance is 50 cm compared to the other wide angle prime's which are 20-30 cm and the F 3.5 aperture which can be considered slow, although very sharp wide open! Depends on the situation sometimes it's the only lens I use on a shoot which is amazing because it makes me more present and forget the technicalities.

Amazing video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I've been bouncing back and forth between getting the nFD 50mm 1.4 and the 1.2. Do you think the extra money for the stopped-down sharpness and shallower depth of field would be worth springing for the 1.2 over the 1.4? I know you said you don't like shooting with a super shallow depth of field but I'd love your take on this. I'd also love to see more videos about the other vintage lenses you have. Definitely have subscribed and can't wait to see more. Thanks!

Hi, thank you for checking out the video. I'm currently working on another vintage lens video, and it will be uploaded soon. To address your question, I've personally tested both lenses for my own peace of mind, and here's what I observed: When using the Canon FD f/1.2 lens wide open at f/1.2, I found it challenging to maintain focus consistency, especially when pulling focus during filming. My follow-focus operator didn't prefer it much. However, given the lens's speed, I rarely found a practical use for a depth of field as shallow as f/1.2. Additionally, I noticed that with the FD f/1.2 lens, the bokeh had a reddish tint, which was aesthetically pleasing in terms of color rendition but didn't match when compared to the bokeh of the FD f/1.4. In my experience, the Canon FD f/1.2 is an excellent lens for its image quality, but I would lean towards the FD f/1.4 for practical reasons. I don't believe it's worth paying 5 times the price for just half a stop lighter, especially because, above f/1.2, everything like image quality, sharpness, and color rendition seemed quite similar. Your subscription is greatly appreciated, and it means a lot to me. Thank you!

@@Kashilembo I don’t own any yet but I’ve been putting in a lot of research! Right now I’m filming everything on a Helios 44M on my R6. I’m mostly filming vertically 1080p for my pottery Instagram page, but I want to expand what I’m filming and taking photographs of. I really like the images that I’m getting with this lens, but it feels like the 58mm is just a tiny bit long for my small living room studio. Dropping down to 50mm seems like a good call for my space, and it’ll be nice to have the faster aperture as I enter winter. If the 50 still feels too long for general use I’ll try the 35mm. Honestly I’m really enjoying the Helios’s field of view, so I think I’ll be just peachy with the 50. I haven’t been filming on a mirrorless camera for very long- just since May of this year. But it’s really gotten its hooks into me, and I really enjoy it. Switching to a vintage prime from the kit zoom lens definitely was the right call for me!

I disagree.. Ive had the canon FDs 28 35 and 50 for years from my Canon AE1. I feel these are great option for controlled environments only cause the flares on the canon lens are the worse ive ever seen. You can use hoods or angle Mat Box to avoid the flares but Canon FD has sharp flares whereas better quality vintage glass has the softer lens flares that resemble true movie cine lens. people can KZread Canon 28mm FD lens there's real world tests of what im talking about if no one has owned a vintage canon lens. I highly recommend you search each lens test before purchase some flare way more then others and the 28mm canon was the worst flaring lens i used.

for me that is nearly totally nonsense: you cannot use ANY brand optics from the 80ies on any digital device - the only reason could be: you are aiming for an unsharp, glowing und low contrasty pictures or videos before you stop down these lenses to 5.6 to 8. And the you loose the control over the field of sharpness

Hi friend, yes You can use any optics from the 80tied on any digital camera, the People we look up to are doing on big screens . The KZreadr are doing it because they love the look and aesthetic. I’m trying to understand the point you made about F stops . But from my experience in controlled I’m always at 2.8 above 8 in any other situation that has too much light. While considering NDs, have you watched Dune ? Didn’t you like the vintage lens use in that film ?
