The nifty fifty is glorious, so is the 24-105 f/4. It’s an awesome little duo of lenses to do a large variety of work with. Love both of em.

Those are two of my three lenses!!!The other is Rf 100-400. I feel like they were the 3 best starting lenses I could have bought.
Good to see someone mention the focus limiter on the 85F2. That lens gets a lot of negative comments about slow focus but the focus switch makes a bigger difference with that lens than any other I've used. My go-to for most weddings is the 85F2 and 351.8. Great video.

Great combo, and agreed! It's absolutely necessary to use the focus control. Get those macro shots of rings when you need em, but then flip the switch and shoot the couple from the far aisle during the ceremony! :)
I believe the RF 35MM 1.8 is as good as it gets for a non L lens. I mean the rendering is just awesome from that little guy.
The 85 f2 is my go to walk around lens. It’s like, creates a nice bokeh and just enough reach to get in on further away subjects for street photography.
Great video, man. Interesting subject, nice colors, editing... you're stepping up your game.
On APS-C there is a must shout-needed to the RF 18-150mm. One lens for a lot of variability at pretty good F stop too (considering the range)
Is there a lens I missed? What's your favourite Lens for Canon?

I suggest 600mm F11 for taking moon and wildlife. It does struggle at low light but inexpensive and major advantage is light weight compared to other bazooka long range lenses so I can take for traveling

I do have expensive glass and won’t deny that it’s “better”, but when I want small, light, and better than good enough, the non-L RF glass is awesome. RF 16/35/85 paired with an OG R body is my go to for travel.
Extra praise for giving your APS-C recommendations. It doesn't go unnoticed, thanks
the rf 50mm rocks, i really love it
I think this year the thing I'll spend some real money is will most likely be new lenses. I'm currently running with an M6 Mark II and love it! This video was helpful for sure though. Gives me a lot to consider on what to look into.
In the Canon world, the best value right now IMO is an R6 mark I paired with a 24-105 f4L, 16 2.8, and 50 1.8. Better if you can get these second hand. Use the 24-105 most of the time; the R6 low light is fantastic and shooting at F4 is no problem except in the darkest of environments. Use the 16 when you really need ultra wide coverage. Use 50 for low-light and shallow DOF portraits. This whole kit can cover pretty much all situations except professional sports/birding, while maintaining a very low size/weight profile.
When I brought my Canon R8 I immediately purchased the RF 24mm, 35mm and 85mm macro lenses as I do landscape photography but I also like shooting photos of plants, flowers, insects etc so I appreciated the close focusing and macro capabilities. I also brought the 24-105 F4 thinking I would benefit from also having a zoom lens to cover everything in between plus a bit of extra reach, but I ended up returning it as it's simply not as sharp as the non-L prime lenses despite it costing 3 times as much as one of those lenses. So I brought the 70-200 F4 instead and I find that to be a truly excellent lens which pairs really well with the wider focal length primes. With the 70mm at the wide end it also covers the gap between my 35mm and 85mm nicely and doesn't compromise on image quality.
Recently got a rf 28 f2.8 pancake lens and it is really surprisingly sharp and something about 28 feels really good to shoot with. Definitely would recommend you look into it.
I have the 16mm and it is such an awesome little lens. Really considering getting that 24 also!
@cjm8160

Hi @TylerEdwards are you using the 16mm with an R5? Isn’t that a very demanding sensor?
Absolutely I agree I bought RF24mm few days ago
The video was really helpful thank you! When you said that 35mm was giving that really "natural looking" vibe were you talking for both sensors or one in particular ?
Independently ended up at the same solution. Plus the RF 100-400. Makes a great combo with my R6ii.
For me, I have the 15-35mm as you have, but on some travels I really feel like a 24mm (I like the wider angle) will be enough, so though I'm not really on a budget I do want that 1 lens I can easily travel with (in terms of weight) but I do wait for a sale on it lol. And your video helped me be more sure that I do want the 24mm, Thanks!
I would add 28mm f2.8 here. Together with 24-105f4 L and 85f2 create a super versatile setup.
This is great - for a full frame body. Everything shifts a big w/ the APS-C bodies. The 50 mm becomes the 85 equivalent, the 24 becomes that 35 mm, etc.
I’d also like to add the RF 100-400 f5.6-8. For an inexpensive telephoto the results are nice and it’s fast enough to track small wildlife like birds and shoot sports.. suffers a bit in low light but with the right light it’s great!

great tip - I went with the 70-200 F4 (another great option) but have tried the 100-400 and been very impressed with the image quality, especially considering it is half the price of the 70-200

Excellent review. My only disagreement is regarding your quick dismissal of the 24-105 4-7.1 STM. Yes, it’s variable aperture and not weather sealed but there is virtually no difference in image quality from the RF 24-104 f/4 L IS. I’ve done many, many comparisons on the occasions where I’ve had both . Try it.
I am looking to upgrade my camera kit sooner rather than later, and if I compare this video to your recommendation for photography beginners I see that this one is for Full frame cameras(as the RF series), though most of your canon recommendations in that video were for the APS-C camera series. What would you recommend in this case? I am stepping up from an EOS M100 with 2 kit lenses. Thanks!
Gr8 video. I have R8 with 50mm 1.8, sometimes I find 50mm little limiting especially indoors, should I buy 35mm ?
Im in a position to upgrade from my Canon M50 MII kit lens. Im looking for a lens to record haircuts and vlogging. What are some good options for those still shot videos and/or vlogging? Thanks.
I currently have an APS-C DSLR (250D) and want to buy new lenses but I also want to be able to upgrade the camera body later on. So my questions is : do you think I have to worry about investing in EF lenses when Canon seems to have stopped DSLR production ?
Big fan sir ❤
I treated myself to the R50 for my birthday and to tell you I'm lost is an understatement. I've never had a camera with a detachable lens. I'm going traveling for 9months and I'm wondering what lens would you recommend for night time shoots and wide angle as I love city/landscape photography?

Question, how good is a 24-105 f4 on a crop censor… I’ve been reluctant to buy it because it’s f4 and I feel any low light situation will give me crap results. However f4 on a range that would be 36 to 150 in full frame is quite exciting.

@@AnthonyGugliotta thanks for your reply.
The focussing distance is measured from the sensor not the front of the lens
Was the photo at 5:35 shot in killarney park?
I'm actually trying to save up for the 24-70 (or maybe the 24-105) f2.8 for my R7, as I already got myself an older EF 70-200 F2.8L version 1 non-IS. And I gotta say, I love the photos out of that oldie. It's just even at 70, sometimes it's too tight. But to my surprise, I came back from Cuba with pretty good shots from my newly minted RFS 10-18mm 4.5-6.3 variable aperture.
Surprised you didn't mention the 1.6x magnification factor for APS-C sensors
What do you think about using an ef l series lens like the old 24-105 f4 on your R series body?

If the price is right I'd say go for it! I shot with an old EF 24-105 (non-L) on crop DSLR for a season. My only regret was not having enough on the wide end, but I was primarily shooting subjects that were far away so it worked for me.

@tallpinoy

@mirasga other than weight, are there any other advantages like image quality wise?
@mirasga
5 ай бұрын
@@tallpinoy RF lenses are also smaller in use due to the absence of the EF-RF adapter. Smaller bags can be used allowing for smaller and lighter setup. IQ wise, RF 24-105mm only has a slight edge over the EF. My motivation for upgrading to the RF lenses is not primarily about IQ but size, weight, and ergonomics. As regards the 50mm, it becomes necessarily large to bring along due to the adapter. I have the RF50mm and I can carry it all the time. Though I prefer the rendering of my Tamron 45mm F1.8, however it weighs a lot, so I don't bring it often as a result. If you have no RF lenses, the adapter is an non issue since it lives on the camera. But if you have several EF lenses and RF lenses in use, switching lenses WILL become annoying. BTW, I also have both EF24-105mm mark I and II as well as the EF 50mm F1.8.
