Canadian Steam on the Move, Part 1 (Village Station Film Productions)

Ғылым және технология

"Steam locomotives held the fascination of generations before leaving Canadian rails in 1960 forever. No form of technology merged man and machine more closely. The myriad classes and sub classes of motive power provided many of us with a lifetime of interest.
Scenes such as those captured by the camera of John Freyseng, almost 30 years ago, are gone but not forgetten in this video. Return with us to those days of trackside euphoria and Canadian Steam On The Move."

Thank you gents, that was a treat for one who was born just about the same time as a lot of this film was shot. I'm just old enough to remember to remember a lot of dead engines making that one way trip out of Toronto, never to return. If only this 5 year old had known at the time....

What an absolute Priceless piece of work you put out! As a Railroader out of Stratford Ontario so many scenes a familiar to me, I was born 1959 so steam was pretty much gone, I know our Farms were surveyed for the CPR when they were going to run the line from St Mary's on into Stratford, didn't happen thank you for posting I enjoyed this very much

Absolutely marvellous stuff from my (our) generation. At the time (1953), I had just joined the RCAF and, after training in Southern Ontario, got transferred out West, and subsequently back in Ontario and then overseas wit NATO. Although several relatives worked for the CPR, my real interest in trains only started in the late 1960s, upon my return to Canada. But I had liked trains from a young age and had alighted in Allendate in the wee hours (on the way to Borden), behind a steam loco (likely 6060 or a. Sister), pulling the Super Continental west out of Toronto Union. I made several fan trips after behind steam, but it never the same as the real thing. Thanks again for the memories; I subscribed and looking forward to viewing Part 2, a bit later. What will I do after. View this video all over again of course, and savour it even more deeply. I am throughly familiar with the locations, having been stationed in Ontario, during 30 years of service. I’m now 86.

What great film footage! Nice to see some of the out of the way spots, now long gone. Also great to see people working on the railways in that time. I worked for the C.P.R. out of the Toronto area in the late 80s early 90s. Met & worked with men who started out on steam, their careers drawing to a close, mine just starting.

Great video! However, Wabash 51 switcher is alive and well in St Thomas at the ECRM, and to this day it is the museums work horse shunting the rolling stock around the old caso rail yard.
