It is volatile for sure. You're really at the mercy of the algorithm. I haven't quite cracked it 1 year, 105 articles in. Some get 50 views. Some get 5K. Absolutely. Consistency and focus. See if you can niche down and focus on one specific thing. That’s what really helped me. I was covering a bunch of topics. Hey, I have a question for you. I am a very curious individual and have a wide range of interests and knowledge in a variety of different fields and subjects. I am pursuing a Bachelors in Economics and that will be the foundation of all of my writings but at the sametime spreading out with a variety of different fields. I say all thato to ask is ok to not really have a specific niche but write on different subjects as long as the content has substance? Im a polymath and I guess you can say my niche is being a generalist. Hi, what are the publications? How do you know a website is a publication?

You said that your articles don't need to be original (it can be published from your own blog). If that is the case, do publications have a bias whether you are submitting them an original over a non-original one? Or they don't care so you can just submit to them your non-orig articles?

Yes, but probably aim for the smaller publications if you can. It's definitely more about the quality though for sure. If you write about money or finance feel free to send to The Money Resolution. I haven't started posted others yet but I'm very open to it now that I've posted a couple dozen on my own!

I did make one more update on Medium sharing how I made over $2K on one article. I'm only writing one weekly so I'm back down to the $100-200 range monthly. I was hitting $400-500 at one point. But it's really hit or miss. And by that I mean you need an article to go viral (and viral within Medium to paying subscribers, not free views via Google/social). Great question - I haven't seen any real differences on when to post. I've had success on weekdays and weekends. Typically they take days to gain traction so I wouldn't overthink that part. GIFs are great when used in the right moments. Don't overdo it - they can be a distraction :)

I just started my business and I've been writing a blog on Hub pages, then transefering it to my own blog, then from the blog I make a long form youtube video, and then from that video i take the audio for a podcast, and then I take the highlighted points from the video and make shorts for KZread, instagram, facebook, and tiktok.

It's different for all of them unfortunately. If you go to the publication page, they usually have a link on top (or bottom) explaining how to submit stories. For some, you can submit through a form. For others, you need to get accepted into the pub. I wish it was more simple. Some are very tough to get into and you may hear nothing for weeks, while your story sits unpublished. Might be best to start your own pub like I did (Money Resolution). Best of luck!!

Yes you can - if it's all your original work you can also post it there. You can even put at the top or bottom "Originally posted on (your blog URL)" and you might end up with a little traffic back to your blog.

I don't but I wish I did. It's been on my list to do. At this point, I should outsource it! I only want to because I sell products on my site (courses, books). Otherwise, it might not be worth it unless you think it'll get enough eyeballs to bring on affiliate links

how do you submit to publications?

First, you need to get added as a writer. Many of them require a quick form or comment that you'd like to be added. If you go to their pub - look for a "write for us" link on top. Once added, when done writing, clicks the dots and click add to publication. Then submit to pub. Some pubs make you submit articles via specific forms instead for each article using article draft links and it can get frustrating because you might not hear back. Or a week goes by and you get rejected and start applying again. It can be worth it though if it's a big one. Over time, you'll establish relationships with pubs. By now, I have 4 or 5 that accept everything I send them. Best of luck.

You cannot upload a PDF. However, you can create a new story and maybe copy/paste your writing!

Why is it so important to get accepted into a publication? Can't you just post your own article on Medium?

Correct. This is what I do now. Well, technically I started my own publication so I submit it to myself. I think bigger ones can help you with exposure but it was more stress to get into than it was probably worth it.

It's gotten SO much better because I doubled down on it. I post around 10-15 articles a month still and stayed very consistent. Some months are slow ($100-$200) but I had my first $2K month in September - mainly with 1 viral article. You really need a viral article to make good money I'm finding. It's the second time this has happened. Otherwise, it's just a couple hundred tops. Let me know if you'd like to see a follow-up video!

It depends on the content. If it's longer-form, consider self-publishing a book like I have. OR consider a KZread channel if you have video skills. Or consider your own blog. But yes, I think Medium is a great place for your content! Plus, you can technically post that content elsewhere so it doesn't have to be exclusive.

Is anyone from Canada? Have you earned anything on Medium? If so, did your payment come with a 30% deduction? In January, I earned around $1.40 USD and received $1.33 CAD. Did I make a mistake in tax form?

I get it. Keep at it though. You learn a ton by doing. Try to focus on fun and learning and don't focus on the money. Also, sometimes an old article pops months away out of nowhere! You never know!
