I've started a substack a few weeks back on writing tips for KZread. I got a lucky break where someone reading the articles was looking to hire me for work. I think a Substack can be a great way for generating leads for something else.

Love your content. Monetizing your audience with memberships (like a newsletter) is though. Especially when you charge only $5/mo for it. This only works if you have a LOT of volume. What worked for me with a small audience is to sell higher priced one-off products like courses... or recurring coaching. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Matt Giaro

Thanks! And, totally. Courses seem to be the conventional route for most writers. But, at least right now, I prefer to share everything in real time without marketing a course. With that said, I am currently working on a higher-ticket product... because, well, money. 😆💰

Thanks. I have an account on Substack. I'm just thinking of what to focus it around so I have to give it more thought. I also have an ESL YT channel so I'm thinking of sending those viewers there, since they already know and trust me, not sure yet.

Hey. I've been watching your content for few days (especially to undersrand the Medium Algo) and I'm loving it. ❤❤ I've just one doubt: "I have an old account where I've written 4 articles (very less engagement, say 20 25 claps per article). So, With respect to the Algorithm. Should I prefer making a new account or continue writing on my old account. (My last article was written around 1 year before)

When your account was created won't affect the algorithm. But, if it feels better for you to start fresh with a new account, it can't hurt. 🙂🙌

Post Notes! 📝 💪Because the vast majority of Substack traffic is internal, posting Notes is the best way to reach new readers. If you write on any other platforms, you can add your Substack newsletter link in your bio and at the end of posts, as well. 🙂💌

Hudson, What's the best strategy for using Notes to grow on Substack? Can you link me to a video that you feel offered the most useful advice on this? Thanks.

It's funny you mention it, I'm currently editing another Substack video. But, I don't dive too deep into Notes. I'll keep my eyes open for any helpful videos/resources though. And, add it to my list of future videos. 🙂✅🙏

Hi Hudson, would you say it's easier to earn on Medium than seeing as even with your following, you only managed to get 15 paid subs? You can easily make more than that on Medium?

Totally. I definitely think Medium is a much quicker way to earn money. But, once you build a base of paid subscribers, earnings are more consistent. So, I still think Substack is a great long-term approach. 🙂🤞

I mostly post on Medium, but for my best stuff, I share it on both Medium and Substack. That way, free Medium readers can access it. Will I get penalized for posting the same content on both platforms? By the way, do you do this as well? ps: my substack audience if different they are not the same subscribers from medium

That's a smart way to go about things -- I know a lot of writers who do the same. I don't see any issues with it because the majority of traffic on both platforms is internal. The only potential issue I could foresee is it triggering duplicate content on Google. But, again, I don't see it as an issue. 🙌✅ The only reason why I don't do it is because I write about different things on each platform.

New world record for most amount of edits ha ha. Not judging though. I tried filming myself once and pretty much forgot how to speak English. I know now that it’s harder than it looks. On the topic of Medium: it’s super disappointing. I assumed if you wrote for medium you wouldn’t have to pay to read more than 2 articles a month. Brutal.

Haha, welcome to my life. I'm slowly getting more comfortable in front of the camera. So, each week, I'm hoping to reduce the need for edits. 🙂🤞 And, yes, it is a little sad. Moving a members-only model has also reduced earning potential for writers. 🥲
