I saw someone describe medium as KZread for reading/writing and I think that fits pretty well after a few weeks on the platform

I’ve been writing on Medium for a little longer than a year and consider myself new. It has been my fav and most useful tool in learning how to write for readers. And I wouldn’t have started without Zulie! So thank you and 🎉 on growing the group biz.

Oh god I have been watching you for quite sometime, just subscribed today waiting for this video. And here it is. Backstory- Read your articles on your site, medium (Thought, wait I have read this somewhere else) and watched videos and then one day suddenly realise that it's the same person. Hi Zulie, Very good presentation. I’ve been writing on Medium for a while, but I still found your advice to be very helpful. I agree no one will get rich writing for Medium, but it’s a good way to test the waters, and then find ways to branch out to other sites. As a Medium reader, I’m constantly amazed at the good advice I’m finding, e.g., writing, sales, marketing, social media, etc.

Hi Zulie, loving your content here and on Medium! I'm thinking about writing again. I loved writing in high school, but then college, and technical spec writing (I work in tech) kind of ruined it. However, I keep wrestling with the idea of writing on Medium versus my own website/blog. I like the idea of owning my own website/blog, but Medium has visibility and traffic advantages. Would love to know your thoughts on this, if you have an opportunity. Again, thanks for all your content and inspiration! It has me thinking about writing for the enjoyment of it again!

Hi Zulie, thanks for this video, it was exactly what I was looking for. I am relatively new to Medium and it has only just occurred to me that I could publish on there rather than attempting to maintain my own website with a blog, which is what led me to your video. I am a lawyer. Amongst other things, I provide services through an online platform which will never make me rich in itself but which does lead to the occasional piece of work which is worth a lot, so I totally get what you are saying about using Medium as a way to make money from work that comes as a result of being on Medium while also earning some income from Medium itself. I suspect the same could be said of KDP, for example, as in depending on one’s field it could be a great way to get more commissions while earning royalties rather than a means to an end on its own. Thanks for the video, I am going to subscribe and I look forward to reading your work on Medium.

I started writing on inconsistently Medium about two months ago but you've encouraged me to discipline myself to write on it more. One thing tiny and trivial... Great info here. I posted my first article on Medium yesterday and submitted myself to the partnership program since I somehow had 111 followers. I'm a published writer of nonfiction memoir stories and currently writing a full-length memoir. Not sure how I will fit into Medium but I'm looking forward to engaging there. I've been a paid member for a few years. Thanks again.

Wonderful explanations for beginners (thank you! I've been a bit confused about whether or not to start a WordPress etc alongside Medium or not). Quick question, Zulie - do you need to make your own publication for your writing to get picked up/seen? Or can you just publish on your Medium page? Does it make a great difference?

As far as I know, they only look at the one story you're submitting, nothing else!

I was in two minds whether to write on Medium, until I watched your video. Now I'm in one mind. :)) I'll try it.

This was very informative, well organized, and for the most part very objective. The takeaway or "sound bite" was that Medium is a place where you can make money, but not necessarily a "living". This could simply be another revenue stream, but not get-rich-quick scheme. I also agree that this platform is much easier than WordPress, which I am still trying to figure out is a Website Design platform or Blogging platform, either way, not a fan of WordPress outside of its really cool name. This video is definitely worth watching and I am going to assume that the information will apply to 2024 since I am watching this in October 2023.

I just signed up for medium. I'm an aspiring copywriter who flies 3-5 times a week and drive for a living. I'm looking to change careers within the next few months into a freelance writer, specifically copywriter. It looks as if you were one of the first people recommended to me when I signed on to medium. You could be a model.

as someone who just started with medium, I need to work harder, and I haven't gotten to the point, I can share stuff on KZread yet

I think you can start and post whenever! It doesn't really matted what you start with as long as you have the consistency to continue, at least 1/week.

This is a great video, Zulie. It has inspired me to start writing articles on Medium. I watched another video of yours that talks about how unfair it is not to be able to earn money on Medium with no other means, besides Stripe. I come from a country where Stripe and PayPal, aren't supported (actually, PayPal is restricted here). I wonder if Medium has allowed people who come from countries like mine to earn money on their platform? They should consider adding Payoneer as one of the payment methods. Please do a video on this, if there's an update on payment methods on Medium. I'm going to subscribe to your channel so that I can see your video. Thanks for the info, I got a lot of value from this video.

Hum. I feel like medium don't really distribute my writing when I get out of the niche. Talking about WordPress. I had a blog for 3 yeas there, and my writing didn't go. When I tried medium. People finally found my content.

Its very informative specially for beginners. can you tell me what should be the number of words contained in a story with an image inserted beside it to make it more relevant.

Thanks for your video, it was most helpful in learning about Medium and its future, I am new to Medium and have just started posting. 2 articles at the time of writing. I am looking to write a book with supplementary timelines interwoven into the story with a view to putting these additional timelines and storyline option voting etc. behind the Medium paywall. Would you recommend using Medium or WordPress? I have word press sites already so the tech side is not an issue for either.

Glad it was helpful! I'd recommend both - write first to WP and then import onto Medium. This way you can still have control over your own website, but with the added benefit of more Medium readers.

Hi, Zulie. You forgot to mention that not everyone can be accepted to the MPP because of some restrictions. There are countries that don't qualify for MPP.

Medium is a great platform even if you don't qualify for the MPP! It's better than Wordpress and Substack thanks to the ease of setup, innate discoverability, and high SEO benefits. Even if I wasn't making any money on Medium, I'd still be posting there.

Thanks a lot for this useful information. I'm new to Medium and I'm so excited about it but I live in a country that Medium does not support it for partner program, are there options for me to earn money by writing on this platform ?

Hey Zulie, like someone else in the comments said, your video was was very refreshing after reading so many complaints from other medium writers. Medium has its faults, but I still think it's a great place to develop your skills and make friends, and even build a portfolio to attract future freelance clients or something similar. And yes I know some people complain about this, but I like how medium is quite left-leaning. As someone who is gay and transgender, I want to feel safe on a writing platform, that if someone writes something hateful, we can report it and that medium staff will take it seriously. So far I've seen that medium staff do take these reports seriously and remove these articles, sometimes even suspending the writer's account, which is good to see.

I love your channel and your advice, I wanted to comment on earnings on Medium. I know times have changed and making $2,000 on medium today is harder than it was back then, but I wanted to address the $2,000. In rich countries (USA, Great Britain, Germany) it may not be a lot, but in MOST countries you can "live a really rich life" for this amount. Data from 2023: "The average global personal income is $9,733 per year." It is worth noting that this is not a "minimum" - it is an average.

Hi Zulie. Do you think medim penalise articles reach if it is low quality. Do you suggest deleting non performing articles on medium?. Could Low quality content be reason behind Sudden drop in traffic? Will deleting low quality article return traffic back? Recently I saw huge Drop in traffic, Even the newly posted article shown as no views or no read.

May I ask, how well do great Bible Studies on certain topics or certain scriptures, sell on Medium?

Can you publish a newsletter on Medium or is Substack better for that? To me Substack seems as if it has become the place for the major talent folks. I.e. people who have a big name before they even begin to write.

Question: Can you cut and paste in Medium? I have stuff that I have already written saved out and would love to use to start my blog.

Absolutely! Medium even has a canonical link tool you can harness to ensure your blog remains the highest domain authority (help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/360033930293-Set-a-canonical-link)
