Can you drive a Toyota Prius through deep water without doing damage to the engine? In this video we take a look at my 2012 Toyota Prius and I drive it through a foot and a half of water during a flood. The air intake on a Toyota Prius is 2 1/2 feet above the ground under the hood, so, you’re not likely to damage the engine by sucking water into the air intake, but the muffler is only 9 inches off the ground, so if you park in deep water, the water can get into the muffler and do a lot of damage. I don’t recommend driving your Prius through deep water, but if you are going to do it, you want to make sure you keep moving and don’t stop. By keeping the Toyota Prius moving through the deep flood water, it pushes enough water out of the way for the exhaust to be able to get out of the muffler. If you were to park in water that’s a foot deep, the engine would stall because the muffler would be blocked.
