    30-year-old in West Virginia here. I pay $432/month for a brand new 2024 Model Y Long Range, and my insurance through State Farm is $130/month. I got the $7,500 tax credit, as well as $12,000 down payment from selling my 2014 Focus ST, bringing my total financed amount to $28,384 with an APR of 7.17% through Santander, which was the best rate for my DTI and was actually a third-party from applying through Tesla.

    Just so you know ( next time) Santander is notorious for charging higher interest rates, even with good credit. 2 smart financing options 1. Credit Union2. Start a small business, get an EIN and a TID, build your business credit, and purchase your next ride totally on business credit.

    I ordered a white Model Y Long Range dual motor in early January 2023 and took delivery on Feb. 14th, 2023. The price with destination and order fee was $54,630. I got a state rebate of $2,000 and a trade-in price of $9,500. Currently in my state there in no sales tax on EVs. With the high loan rates, I sold stock to pay $43,130 cash for the car. When I filed my 2023 taxes this month, I received a $3,543 Federal credit as my tax burden wasn't the full $7,500. That brings the total cost of the car to $39,587. I now have just under 7,600 miles on the car and have spent $339 charging at home and $25 at Superchargers. I have had no other maintenance costs.

    I actually enjoy this realistic finance content (same with your hidden expenses video). It is almost always better to finance a car, assuming you can get a good interest rate, because your cash will be better put elsewhere (high interest savings, stocks, other investments, etc.). Most people see "financing" and assume you're living outside your means, but this is just the perception of it.

    Wooow , that insurance is expensive. I live in Austria and we pay insurance per month $60. In Austria you have three options for Insurance, Basic ($22 for Tesla 2024 SR), +Basic (60$), Premium ($110). I charge my Tesla also at home for fix price .20c (day or night doesn’t matter) and we have Photovoltaic on our House. That’s big advantage in summer. We paid our car cash, no loan.

    just get a used Bolt with recalled new battery at $15000, no tax on used EV cars under $30000, about $500 insurance per year. Super efficient on the road, Bolt is the only car with on-par efficiency as Tesla cars, practical 250 miles range, it also has 200 horsepower 0-60 in 6.5 sec......these things sells super fast if anyone can get hands on one. Make sure check the VIN for Bolt recall history on battery.

    Great video. I have found that what a lot of people are looking for is a comparison in rough mpg. Charging at home i have about the same rate as you $.02 per mile or about $.6 per gallon for a car that gets 30 mpg. At a super charger (only when I'm traveling) I'm paying about 80% the price of gas. this can vary quite a bit. the one thing that you didn't mention that i was surprised to hear was that tires of EVs wear out faster. This can vary a lot also but for my 2023 Y performance 21" tires we are looking at $2200 to replace them. it sounds typical to have to replace them at 30k. That means that I'm paying $.07 per mile for tires. this is probably double what a normal car would be. Normal car is probably looking at $1.1 per 30 miles for tires plus a gallon of gas and other maintenance but just focusing on tires and gas you are looking at $4 for a gallon plus 1.1 for tires $5.1 per 30 miles. for the tesla Charging at home (typical commute) $.6 for 30 miles of charge & 2.19 for tires gives me a cost of $2.79 for 30 miles in the tesla. (another thing to note for this is if you are in stop and go traffic it uses very little power) for traveling in the tesla $2.19 plus 80% of gas $4 per gallon equals $5.4 per 30 miles traveling now this can vary so i consider it about the same. lastly all the above does not consider oil changes and the like that i don't need in the tesla. I love my Tesla. It has been a solid investment IMO.

    Genuine question, wanna hear your thoughts on my situation. Just bought my M3P, was one of the heavily discounted inventory models leading into 2024. Paid 46k, and have the $7500 tax credit coming next year for it. I read that there is not a minimum amount of time I need to own the car for me to still get the credit. I'm hearing high rumors the M3Ludicrous (or whatever it'll be called) will qualify for the tax credit (since it'll have an American battery). For me, theoretically, that puts me in striking range of $15,000 from tax credits in a short amount of time. Since I got a discounted deal on my new car, what do you think, am I in striking distance of a somewhat straight-across deal into a M3L (To where as long as rates aren't bad that I wouldn't get hurt swapping so soon)? Have had a hard time mathing this one out. Any info is super appreciated!!

    I will take delivery of my first Tesla in three days. I just bought the model Y rear wheel drive because I paid cash for it and I didn’t want to spend extra money for the other models, but I didn’t want the smaller one. Since I lived down here and South Florida it looks like one of the first things I’m going to have to do is go over to my window tint guy. There’s just a lot of glass there. I paid 42,000 out the door after the dealer took off the $7500 EV credit that I signed over to them. For that amount of money I think it’s a lot of car . you have a great thanks for the information.

    Leases are not smart. just saying. While yes you spend less money over a certain period of time. At the end of the leases you have NOTHING for it. At the end of paying a car off, (or hey what about paying cash), you have a car worth a significant amount of money!

  • @LuckTR

    @LuckTR

    @@hoyvintagecycles2936nonsense. If you buy new the depreciation hit over the 24-36 month period are money lost. Lease generally costs that much plus you get to save on purchase tax as it is based on the total lease cost and not total car cost. Plus with tax credit payment reduction lease is very good option. Only downside is the mile limitation. Yes you can buy cash or finance, but your car will be worth very little at the end considering the interest rate burden and hard depreciation of electric cars caused by rapidly changing battery tech etc.

I was shocked that registration cost me $400 in Illinois, I didn’t know this till I got my plates in the mail that it was going to be this expensive. My insurance didn’t go up too much considering I am with Allstate and they were the least among the typical insurance providers. The other thing I didn’t know about was the tax incentive was not the actual full amount $7500. I got under $5000 back in taxes because that is all I paid in 2023. Yeah I don’t make enough money to afford this car, but since I live with my mom, I don’t have a mortgage to pay so I splurged on this car. Additionally I thought I was going to get the state incentive too so that I could pay down the car and drop my monthly payment, but they no longer where taking applications for the state tax incentive. So luckily my mom is helping me out, otherwise I would be in a lot of financial trouble.

    @@jml9550 Yes, but it's still better than buy a car and lose its value after it's out of the door (unless you buy a special car than it can increase value after a certain time) and don't forget buying a car you have to pay the insurance monthly (which is very expensive in California now)
