Can We Fix This Wiring Nightmare? REVIVING My 1969 Charger!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." -2 Corinthians 1:3-4
We're full speed ahead fixing all the issues my 1969 Charger has. This time around we're making some changes to my horrendous wiring job. It's been years since I tackled the awful harness. Think we can make everything work again?

Life gets in the way I’ve had my Chevelle since high school and I’ve freshened up the engine and gotten it in primer and it’s been like that for a few years.
Call in sleeperdude, he's good at wiring. lol. The only thing I have in common with electrical work is the entire time I was growing up, I was always grounded.

You got to look up to a young man like Dylan. Like most of us we learn as we go and not afraid to admit to his mistakes.

If you find yourself concerned about the amperage draw from the headlights, you may consider using a relay to prevent the factory switch from getting too hot, as well as to preserve the factory switch. Great video Dylan, thank you for sharing.
I like how the windshield says, "Fix me." 😂 That's exactly what you're doing now.
19:10 those metal part are coated with a thin layer of copper to give a good connection, what you do with the sandpaper is you remove that plating. You get it cleaned and it works great, but only for a while and it will soon get tarnished again and loose connection. Better to clean it with IPA or some other contact cleaner and no sandpaper. BTW, checking that you get 12V trough the contacts doesn't tell you if it can put trough the current you need. The voltage dropping to 8V is a clear indication of that. Better to use the meter to measure the resistance over the contacts, it should be well under 1 Ohm. Needless to say, but all contacts of this age should be opened up and cleaned and lubricated. That can actually prevent fires in the electric system that often start in bad connections and switches.
The perfect content to go with my lunch break. Thanks Dylan
I'm glad this one is getting some attention again. She needs the Challenger treatment, all the amenities (heat and air) new interior and drive the wheels off of it!
I'm so glad your back working on this car it's one of my favorite
Hey Dylan! Here's a little tech tip from a guy who works on electronics all the time. Don't use sand paper on contacts in switches or relays. It will destroy the protective coating that's on the switch from the factory. It'll work again for a little while, but it will quickly fail again even worse than before. Use a pencil eraser. It's much safer. For relay contacts, use a folded up index card with contact cleaner. For really nasty switches, use a soft nylon bristle brush (like a tooth brush).
Absolutely love that they make bright aftermarket headlights with the classic warm hue!
Thanks Dylan for the update on the 69 Charger. Thanks for sharing! 💯👊👍
I dig Mopar.....a whole bunch.....and what you have done on the inside.....patching, painting the metal on the floor and all that ....great start....
I remember when you got this Charger! Can’t wait to see it done Dylan. Great video young man
Them Duke boys would be proud of you!!! Yeh haw!!!
I suck at it, but fixing electrical problems on a classic is so satisfying.
It’s was when you first started working on this car that got me started on this channel. Wiring is just one of those that kind of intimidates all of us.
Thumbs up for the Holley RetroBrights! They work really well!
Thank you for picking up on this ride again. I've been waiting for years lol
One of my favorites thank you taking us on this journey with you.
Seeing the insane progress is just insane throughout the years. Watching you learn is awesome!!
Getting the hard part done that’s the most important. Great video
I did a 65 Belvedere with a Ron Francis kit - my first ever complete rewire. It was epic turning the key and the engine started and everything worked as planned!
Silent subscriber. I finally was able to see a video as it came out 😆👍
Dylan, Don't forget those rear light bulbs, Brother!!
This charger is definitely getting some proper love right now and you’re doing an awesome job Dylan.
Really enjoyed the past 2 videos on this car.cant wait to see more!
so happy seeing this car get some updated love this car made me subcribe to the channel back in the day and dont regret it im from the UK so these cars are rare and i have only seen a couple never upclose except for fast and furious live but im determined one day to get one or a 76 monte carlo and restore it the big question is this beauty going to get a paint job cuz i know the rustic look is cool and everything but she deserves to look good and feel good
Followed the link yesterday, and today i am finally up to date watching this one. 30 vids was fun to watch on this one.
sweet, miss my charger... guess it's time to watch market place for one...God Bless you Dylan!
Thanks for the priceless info and entertainment. I love doing the stuff you do, but I dont like doing it alone. I have projects, but no one close by interested in hanging out in the garage. I think maybe that's a part of the reason you and puddin and others are so popular on you tube. I get to enjoy watching you work and don't have the loneliness and frustration working in an unbearable hot or cold garage, depending on the time of year. Thanks for what you do and inspiring the next generation of car guys.
Great work Dylan!! Keep persevering !👍👍
These are the most rewarding projects. Keep it up!
Must say you have done a great job on fixing your wiring and misc. Can't wait to see what's next.
Man I'm so excited for this!!! My brother and I are doing power tour for the first time this year in our firebirds and I'm so excited to hopefully get to meet you and to see the charger!!! It is how I found your channel when you first got it and have been watching since!! God bless!!
i just ordered my first thing and i gotta say im so happy with your shipping price alot of the bigger youtubers like cleetus mcfarland have crazy shipping and then there shipping takes forever loved this video hopefully i win something
Very nice job Dylan am looking forward to the finished project.
Love this car, can’t wait to get my 73 Mercury Cougar xr7 up and running and hopefully see you on powertour one day.
i hope to see ALOT more of the progress made on this car! i love the transformation and cant wait to see the end product!
happy easter always remember with wiring, red to red, black to black, and blue to bits...
Enjoyed the Charger update, Dylan! I sometimes wonder what happens to some of the cars you introduce but then they disappear. I still go back to the Challenger series you did - is one of the best I've seen in the car revival genre. Thanks for this!
You can also use silver solder and rosin flux to coat the contacts in the switch which will result in a very low loss contact in the switch. Just don't get the coating too thick. You can wipe away some with a cloth while the solder is still molten. As to the heavy current the headlights need, use a relay to handle the heavy current needed by the lamps and let the headlight switch turn the relay on and off.
Good morning from Cape Cod ⚓ it's good to see you putting more work into that charger, it certainly is a nice shape. I'm looking forward to what's next 👍✌️🇺🇲
I really like your videos! Thanks for all of the efforts recording and editing, you're doing great man.
great stuff Dylan thanks.
Charger is looking good. Well done Dylan.
I am thoroughly enjoying these videos Dylan. Very informative and enjoyable at the same time. Thank You.
Man that Charger, at the very least, deserves a decent paint job. You could grab up a Harbor Freight spray gun, and some cheap single stage paint, and fake it..... Lol

@@bobdobalina779 no I'm not new here. Just giving my opinion. I think the Charger and the Blue Savoy (Fury?) both deserve paint. Of all of Dylan's cars they are my favorite 2, and would just be awesome to see them with nice paint jobs. At the end of the day, it's whatever Dylan decides.
Very cool mc cool no it looks very nice thanks for your time 👍🤗
The time and patience you have to have to do wiring. Great job
Excellent video Dylan :) also yes nice work did there to rewired up Charger car and like new headlights too !
Hi Dylan nice video 📹 and workmanship
This was great, especially the details on cleaning the original switches. I'm halfway through the American auto wire kit and it is a dream to work with. Your progress is really motivating me to get mine out of winter mothballs.
Don't forget to change the center tail light bulbs! 👍
Those lights are awesome
I'm late to the party on this series. I've watched all of them the last week, glad I missed the gap and joined at this point! Keep the patina paint job, it's giving serious Boba Fett vibes with that combo of green, grey and rust orange...
i hope on this power tour you dont have to do an engine rebuild in a hotel room. lmao. i had so much fun watching those videos of you guys.
Great work 👌, thanks for sharing 👍💨💨
❤ I love your videos, awesome con tent
Like the auto counsol set, looking to see more on the build
Great build
warm warm incandescent style look. But more bright.
Hi Dylan and Bryer from Sydney Australia. I like the magnetic fuse block; for sure. Saves getting upside down in the middle of the night on some back road. Always interested to see what you guys are up to. 🌏🇦🇺
Dylan great progress on the electrics. It gets easier as you go
Great video
Been my dream car since I was a kid,as most of us i was a Dukes fan,out of my price range now here in Australia.
I’m doing a complete rewire on a Volkswagen bus with one of those harnesses. I feel your pain. I’ve been trying to figure out the headlight switch and I think I’m going do what you did and use a GM switch.
Hey Dylan thank for the video
Change the brake light bulbs! Here is your reminder!
Dylan glad to see you working on the old dodges my first car was a 69 dodge dart swinger with a slant 6
Awesome always cool stuff always thanks
Harnesses from M&H will solve those wiring issues. Wait for Year One to have one of their big sales
This charger reminds me of my dodge pickup ive had for like 6 years , n looking back at the wiring and other things I did , I'm like what the hell was I thinking, can't wait to see this charger finished, it's all a process of learning!! And to have fun in the process
You my friend need to come out here to the Southwest, maybe come out to go to the Pomona Swap Meet for some videos. The next one is June 23rd.

I'm not sure if you are subscribed to Dead Dodge Garages channel in Washington state i think. But this young guy is an Absolute encyclopedia of Mopar. Cool to see some collaborative work
Nice video Dylan, The casing of the wiper switch has to be grounded for the wipers work properly.
The 1st 10 minutes of this video is very relatable 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ let it sit for over a year and getting back to it smh. I did install electric headlights and love them!
Put some #67 bulbs in the inner segment of your tail lights. The inner segment is supposed to remain dim. Only the middle and outboard segments are supposed to be both brake & turn signal. Although a lot of books say an 1156 is supposed to go in the inner segment; many books are WRONG. Try a #67 bulb for the correct look.
Hope to see you restore this all the way ...with paint
Very cool
Dylan this is going to be a great build plus no gas fumes from the floor. So far everything is great the original switches that is awesome. Leave the paint the way it is just coat it with stuff ya use. Nothing like it want to say paint no original is best. Ya got a budget and I cant see it being repainted to make it took cool.
This one was tough to watch, looking forward to seeing how the car comes back together.
As a follower of many abandoned or saved classics channels, this Charger is one that I think really should have a great paintjob. Some cars are worthy and this is one of them. Good luck, Will be following.
Not a big mopar guy but I love this car
Yep when it comes to part cars never throughout anything also that charger is awesome 😊
Yeah!
That was cool
Hey Dylan, good to see the Charger back! Did you ever get the Dodge Charger dealer sales brochure I sent you way back?
I think those clusters have the Tic Toc Tach...
I woke up just in time to watch your video bud
Hello Dylan and Briar
If you can can I hope you paint this vehicle it so deserves a paint job.
On your drivers side window you need to find the little slides that go on side the door post track and that will stop your window from jamming up and going crooked
I probably would have done worse. Lol I hate wiring. God bless you and your channel!
We're is power tour starting and stopping at this year and have they set dates yet.....I have several good 2 speed wiper motors and the harness also if ya need one let me know
At $200 EACH the Holley Retrobrights are out of budget for most guys unless you have a Holley sponsorship. There are way less expensive ways to get brighter headlights with a simple relay.
Wouldn’t it be easier with repro oem harness ? And those retro leds are 1000$ 🤯🤯🤯

I was thinking the same thing, need to rewire my 70 challenger but the OEM harness is about 1k vs Universals they can be very cheap.

To plug and play, yes. But the cost is probably double without the ability to add extra options, as well as modern fuses. The headlights are nice.

@@dsr_deluxe I have a 71 roadrunner . And half of wiring was ok , some was restored and the rest was bought repro . The big issue with moose is the ampere wire and the the wire to fuse box which is always hot . That’s why u should always disconnect battery on mopars
you can stick a relay on the headlights too.
Dylan! Are you driving this big green booger on Power Tour? If so, let's roll together - we're piloting our Charger too!
