It's hard to find something positive to say about the Walksnail system, I guess. I mean, the fonts, yeah. They are great. A test would probably just show what he alluded to.

i just tested this mod default zero cal to -1 then -2. -2 worked best at high power (whoop lite board 350mw) 25mw suffered a lil but high power did way better. But didnt think to record audio say what power levels and what direction im facing. but went from cal 0 it only goto 40mbps at 350mw at point blank range. only 25mw hit 50mbps. -1 25mw and 200mw hit 50mbps but 350mw still point blank would drop to 40mbps . -2 high power hit 50mbps. tested another whoop lite board and i needed -2 to keep 50mbps in high power in other room

I will take my V2 VTX with me to work today and will plug into a Spectrum Analyser to run some checks on actual power levels after recalibration and do some low signal tests on 50 Mbps .. makes perfect sense reducing drive to PA will fix this, kudos to Walksnail sharing the way to do it!

@Vadim Osochenko The V2.0 HD did not need recal, it was stable at 50 Mbps at 30.5 dbm into 50 ohms as is. My two V1.0 though did have the full power problem, dropping cal by 1 digit did improve 1200 mW setting with only a minor drop in power (0.5 dbm). Measured power for both slightly different but still over 30 dbm. I only checked the 700 mW level it dropped in scale but was over to start with. All were close to what they should be (+14, +23, +27, +29) give or take a bit. For those worried about the mW number could do a chart but as device spread will impact your milage may vary. db wise all

1200mW has performed pretty much exactly as expected in my testing. Not sure where this rumour about 1200 came from, but I suspect that any differences to DJI on max power has more to do with the transceiver settings than the power level. In my range testing, 700mw went to 6.9km, and 1200mw went to 8.1. There is 2.34dB increase between 700 and 1200, which should be a range increase of 1.31x. If we multiply 6.9km by 1.31 we get 8.97km, which granted isn’t the same number as 8.1, but not far off within the limits of real world testing.

I have tests showing less stable link at 1200 than 700. More variation in latency and bitrate. Obviously your results are unimpeachable, but it's not just a rumor.

i have the vrx.and running the latest firmware on both..on 1000 and 1200mw i get the low signal focus in half the distance penetration compared to 700mw.same location of goggles and drone.

using non-garbage antennae on the *VTX* as well as on the goggles makes quite a difference. I tested inexpensive iFlight sigmas against the included walksnail antennas and am definitely seeing better range and more consistent bitrate figures. Note that this is with the V1 transmitters and stock antennae. I have a couple of V2 combos on the way and am eager to see how the “improved” antenna compares against the old one.

I want to see your results in a flight test.

Yeah, DJI came out almost 4 years ago. In FPV this used to be ages.

I would expect the calibration value to change all power settings. You could answer your question though. Use the stock v2 VTX (single antenna) to collect a value using your RF power meter at 1200, 700, 200, and 25 mw. Then lower the value of the calibration and then recollect the values. Repeat a couple calibration values. That should show you that its adjusting it across the power ranges.

for this to work there is an 'average value' setting to tell the power meter that the signal is digital. It would work and be easy to test with the single antenna units.

I've not applied this calibration yet, but I've to say that my WS goggles, works better at 1200 mW than 700 mW. The point is that my use case is probably different that the case used to execute test. I normally use WS for long range and there in my test there turn out that 1200 mW 50 mbits grant more distance before loosing bandwitdh that any other configuration. I'll apply the calibration and then I'll do an other test.

Joshua, it appears you interchaged Video Transmitter and Goggles several times, almost implying the Vtx is in the Goggles, rather then the Vrx. That debug data and 'calibration' sounds very much like it's turning down an output of a Video ProcAmp, so not to overdrive the input stage of the Vtx signal amp.

Can i use a 1s whoop charger to charge individual cells of a 4s pack? (Im thinking of connecting each of the 4 cells via the balance lead.) I think its probably safe 1 cell at a time but not sure if i can do all 4 ;)

Every vTX is going to have different results depending on the characteristics of its amp. There's no point in doing a single test of a single vTX and publishing the result. The point is, if you want to try it, you can.

We've seen enough videos where you fly around your property and you're like "here's where I usually lose video," "here's where the signal gets dodgy," etc. Surely if it made a clear difference you could say "yeah, I can see it made a difference for me." Of course our mileage may vary. But if it makes no difference or gets worse, maybe we won't bother.

Same procedure applicable to 1s VTX? (Mine drops to 40mbit if I set it to max 350mw power. But at 200mw it stays at 50mbit.)

This is a vTX calibration. It is the same whatever RX you are using.

So in the txt file, you typed in: S 26 , -1 and inserted this text into the vTX and rebooted the vTX. So, now the new calibration is S 9 , -1. What does the 9 mean?

The numbers in that position are the actual output power of the device at this time, in dBm. Walksnail has dynamic power so it's not always at max power.

@@JoshuaBardwell I would say even knowing that each VTX/VRX is likely different. It would still be a valuable contribution to test and see if this has helped in your specific case. Just like some people report great results while others report unsatisfactory results with Walksnail/Avatar in general. This may be the missing key to help those with poor experience bring their system up to par with others who are happy. Plus let us all know how much one increment changes. Etc etc.

I wanted to root for walksnail but their QC is just lacking. Even the new m181gps that they have have the scl and sda pad labels swapped out, and never bothered to put a PSA for the vendors, to let the buyer know that it's reversed.

@@Simofly i just bought a new one for my diatone Roma l5 and it still flipped. But i realized it's A BAD idea to run a compass on a beta flight quadcopter. Mine work for a while until the gps and the magnetometer contradicted each other and my quad got so confused it just yaw back and forth and crashed. I know the mag is not adviced but i was being hard headed. So i would just go for the flywoo nano V3 because it's way smaller and I've confirmed that it locks to satellites faster. For a gps a size of my nails, it's cheaper performs better and can be powderd by a 3.3v. if walksnail wanted my money, they are going to have to make a new gps that can compete with the flywoo nano gps.

Yes absolutely. But maybe you have the 1s board. It won't go over 350 mW.

The 1S vTX won't go over 500 mW, but really it's 350 mW. It doesn't go higher than that. It definitely should be able to do 50 Mbps, assuming it's unlocked.

My Sky was 26 0 and G was 30 1. Hmmm. V2 vtx.
