One thing not too many people think about with 4 door or extended cab pickups is what the rear area is like with the seats folded up. If you don’t want to ride people in the rear and you want to carry cargo or ride your dog, you need a flat rear area when the rear seats are folded up. Like I said, not too many people think about this and it is rarely seen or shown. This feature is important to me.

Exactly. This comparison, as with most car comparisons, is completely ridiculous. What they should have done was do a base vs base, or do equally priced (equip both to $40k and see the difference). The Gladiator is in its own category, especially the Rubicon. If they're gonna use that they should have compared it to an F150 FX4, or even an F150 Raptor. But then it would show that the Gladiator is way too overpriced for what it is. If they dropped an SRT 8 motor in it then MAYBE I could justify the $60k price. Not that the V6 is bad, but I mean come on. With that said it's insane that a Ranger with barely any options, not even leather seats or a sunroof, costs $42k. What the hell? Why are mid size trucks costing the same or more than their full size companions? I mean you can get a full supercrew F150 XLT FX4 for $4k more.

@@logictrumpsemotion3851 I agree with you that everyone who's cross-shopping is gonna shop price... and when cross shopping price you're gonna hit the reality that in the ranger you CAN get a locker (and even cheaper than this config), whereas in the gladiator it's either rubicon or none. Don't get me wrong, the rubicon goodies you get for the price are great for a factory deal, but as an ex-rubicon (wrangler) owner, I can't help but think that overall you're better off starting with a base model and adding a pair of 1 ton axles (why I sold my rubicon). For the same price you're in a better starting position. And that's where the ranger is gonna kill it, in those lower end price configs. There's also a lot more competition there too though, with the taco and the square wheel wells thing with the menstrual pad on the grille. Time will tell.

I totally agree! Trucks just got way too expensive. They bring back the Ranger, make it 3/4 the size of an F150 but give it 9/10 of the price. I could buy one but can't justify spending that much on something that I'm going to drive back and forth to work, get dirt and oil in and use to haul tools, logs, music equipment and pick up random crap that my wife buys at garage sales. I wish just one manufacturer would come out with a rugged truck that is built to last. Leave the bells and whistles off. Just give me a basic, 4 door 4x4 with a rear locker and decent stereo. If someone made something like that and kept it below $25k, they'd sell like crazy.

Putting no options other than 4 doors and 4x4, it comes to $32,700 before taxes. Maybe I'm just getting old and not able to grasp modern prices. Since I was a kid I always thought a wrangler based pickup would be awesome but now that there is one I don’t really like it. It’s kind of a compromise vehicle. It’s not as good of an off roader as a wrangler and the bed is too small for a truck. It’s not the best of both worlds like I always thought it would be.

Great Video guys. As for the choice for me, its the Ranger only because of what you said..for everyday and hauling and the 18K saving in price wise. I can take the ranger and apply 18K worth of off road equipment. I like the Gladiator but its way overpriced, @52k i would buy it but @60K for a jeep...not happening. Thanx for great video

Teo P You do know That even the Sport with the 3.6 v6 4x4 automatic with max towing is over 40,000 and that’s with NO OPTIONS no off-road stuff. You have to get the Overland trim to match what the XLT FX4 Ranger has. And that’s 52+!!!

Devin Bender locking hubs don’t serve any purpose off-road other than being able to disconnect the front driveline from spinning. Every Jeep made in the last 25+ years has permanently locked hubs. Every all wheel drive car has permanently locked hubs for that matter. The FX4 Ranger is a more direct competitor to the TRD Tacoma. Any Gladiator with a rear locker will have more off-road capability than the Ranger or Tacoma because of the solid front axle and overall more off-road oriented chassis.

Love Jeeps, but also a ford family & for $33k used for a lariat Ranger FX4 vs $40k+ for the gladiator I just can’t justify the cost of the gladiator at this point The additional off-road ability is substantial but I think the FX4 will get me what I need Me... cross shopping these two right now & a Jeep guy... likely going to buy the Ford
