You laugh about it afterwards, but cows are tricky beggars at the best of times. I don't have an issue with them, generally speaking, but some of them can get pretty close up and intimidating. Certainly enough to make you take a different route on occasion. One time on a coastal walk in Dorset we had to take a big detour because the cows in the next field (on a public footpath) were pressed up against the gate so that we couldn't have opened it even if we'd wanted to. And the way the cattle were behaving (quite agitated) we didn't want to anyway. After a wait to see if they'd lose interest and moooove away we just backtracked and went the long way around them and their field.

yes, the 'NOW" thought when Si says " very aggressive manner" was, 'what would an aggressive Moo sound like'...did bring on a pleasant belly laugh. i have just watched this again (Aug 2022) as for some reason I did not quite make the 394.6miles 10 months ago. Well chosen Josh, was top of Simons' more honest concern quotes. Must attempt to make it to this ride before it gets too big. Kaponga Taranaki New Zealand.. we have a few cow's ;-)

Crying while utterly ruined and exhausted but still going, still pushing, still moving forward. I felt that. Nothing like being absolutely terrified nauseous starting something you don't think you can finish, and then finishing it. One of the things I found most amazing is after 350+ miles Si was able to eat crisps with his mouth closed. On longer rides I can't keep my mouth closed for anything. I’m watching this from Australia a month after completing my first 525k bikepack race but just 5 months since I STARTED RIDING A BIKE AT ALL! I’m finding it hilarious that experienced riders find this so tough yet I somehow thought I’d give it a go. Can totally relate to all the nerves at the start and it being so easy to enter and then having told someone I having to follow through 😂 Simon I just loved this! The cows, the bad packaging choices for powder, carrying more than everyone else and the simple pleasure of chips on a dirty footpath. The privilege of being out there. Well done mate.

I come from the Ultra Running Scene 100km + So true what he is saying at the beginning of the video. "Its telling you what you are made of". You learn a lot about yourself when doing such things. Simon is such a cool guy. At the end of the day you have a crazy, heartwarming story to tell...to your friends, to your kids...whoever...its forever...

I have zoned in and out of GCN since the start and this is what I return for. What a great video Si and GCN! I love the raw emotions displayed here which were both amusing and very touching. I don't tend to love the video diary format but here it was used expertly, showing real feeling. The singing was magical!

Having heard Si's misinterpretation of his "singing" to Queen, I feel he also misinterpreted the moo of the cow. It was not aggressive but was a romantic gesture to his calves and fat ankles.

Congrats Si on such a spirited ride and thank you for showing the lows as well as the highs. The internet needs more men crying to James Blunt. However, it would have been great to give a bit more air time to your female competitors. You name check Neil, Josh and Rich but fail to mention Philippa who actually overtook you for a brief period in the race and finished just behind you in 4th place. Ultra distance events are one of the few instances where women can line up alongside men as equals so I think they deserve equal coverage and airtime. Especially as despite being underrepresented in cycling women can still make up 50% of the top 10 in an event like GB Duro.

This is proper inspiring! Well done to Si for finishing so strongly, and well done to the production team for such a great video. The ride itself seems similar in many ways to some of the longer Audax rides, including the "snatching sleep where you can" and "fuelling up in 24 hour garages" elements. Maybe GCN could check out some of these events in future? I really enjoyed this video, cheers.

What an incredible video! Firstly, congrats to Simon for being ready to take on this massive challenge, and with the GCN team delivering a rivetting 'highs and lows' bikelogue. Secondly, the production team absolutely outdid themselves this time. Love, love, love the soundtrack, and the atmospheric sound edits. And then the camerawork, especially those drone shots, was simply spectacular. Thanks so much to the whole team that put this together !!!

Epic, and I can't believe that it's taken me nine months to watch this. I used to work with Richard, and recognised him by his riding style alone. He's an absolute monster in the saddle - I once drove a minibus back from Keswick to Newcastle, dropping the rest of the team off home on the way, while he rode. I beat him back, but by less than an hour!

Really enjoyed watching this Simon, I recognised a lot of the roads, trails, and bridleways since they are what I ride a lot of the time. It was really weird watching you ride round Grafham Water and seeing the track from above, and your first food stop was at the Post Office and store in Perry. Chapeaux for completing that ride-400 miles is about 2-3 weeks normal mileage for me…….
