Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it. I'm glad they should be able to take the heat. I got worried when I read some forums that said high 80's for a max temp. Of course, after I finished building the cages I finally realized the potential problem. Worst case scenario during the day I'll set up a DIY 5 gallon bucket air conditioner I made for my shop last year. Even then I would only need it for a few weeks out of the year.

Yep, just make sure they have constant access to water and they should be fine.

A round brooder would help reduce smothering too :-)

Yea, no HOA where we live, fortunately my wife knew better than me! I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on quail but heat has always been a concern as we live in Miami, FL.

If they have shade and airflow they will do great. Don't be too worried about that.

It's natural for them to do that when they are warm, just like dogs. Do they have air flow?

Yes. They have air flo. I did set up some fans as well. But I did read that it dries thei eyes out. So, I try to not have it directly on them. Thank you so much! Love your videos.

If you put a shade cloth over a wire quail cage to put them outside, do you think it would work? I live in Nevada and I'd like to raise quails in the future!

Yeah that would probably work well! 50% or better would be good to try. Let me know how it works out if you do it! Can't believe I haven't thought of that.

If there's no natural light coming in them definitely they will need artificial light. 14 hours a day is ideal.

Hey im not sure if you know anything about this, or if you could help me out but it has been into the 110's in socal and ive lost 3 quail and a chicken in the past 3 days. I have put a fence with shade cloth around the cages, put a roof over the fence so it is dark (keeps it cool) and have 3 box fans running inside the fenced in area. I replace the water everyday to keep it cool, but i don know if there is anything else i can do? It should stay below 105 from here on out but i just want to make sure that i done everything alright.

Sounds like you're doing everything right. You might try putting frozen water bottles in the cage for them to sit next to, that helps in extreme heat.
