Can one live in a timeless state? | J. Krishnamurti

Subtitles available in: CHINESE, ENGLISH, FINNISH, FRENCH, ROMANIAN, SPANISH
Saanen 1980 - Question #3 from Question & Answer Meeting #2
'You have said that death is total annihilation and you have also said that there is immortality, a state of timeless existence. Can one live in that state?'
This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

Thought denies love! Love is not a remembrance. Love is not desire! We are the entire humanity, we are not individuals. If you drop everything that thought has created, love arises without any effort!

I think his idea of death is related to the ending of the existence of the illusion of the observer and the observed. It's something hard to grasp cause when he talks about memory it feels like something that you can't avoid having it. Also gives a sensation of losing identity, which is not a pleasant thing to think about it. But I feel that he means that identity is something that it's not fundamentally so, why are made in the same way in many ways. And that it's death? The ending of time? ( I want to be something different of what it is) and thought is generated by time? What is the sense of identity after that? Such an interesting thing

It doesn't matter you're in a meditation state or not, we're always live in a timeless manner. Hours, minutes, and seconds is just a labelling, it's not the real definition of time. Meditation reminds us the actual nature of time, not losing our awareness about time. We actually become aware of our timeless state.

Such good observations he gives! 7:02 How to face this terrible thing called living... and the vanities that societal structures burden us with. 8:52 Can we die to everything that 'thought' has built in us? It is so true that our thoughts - and worse, the thoughts and beliefs which others burden us with - have built our life. 13:49 We are trained to be individuals... but we bare all humanity's feelings. We have personal abilities... but they are not 'my gift' - that leads to vanity! 17:30 There's always the priest around the corner... or guru... they're all the same. Do good, go to heaven. This only appeals to the egocentric.

I had the same question. I might have figured it out. Lmk if it chimes with you. He is asking people to listen not “listen”. He is not explaining an concept but is pointing to something that is true in us. If we listen, then we would just dust our trousers, say thank you JK and never look back!! The recognition is immediate. Absence of realization implies understanding is replaced with focused attention , resulting in syntactic deconstruction. (Which would be a left turn)

Timeless is cessation of ego with humanity's wisdom and love shone through, moving through relations, relation in movement. Eternity is a state as infinity also is, imagined states that denote time and space. Indivisible intelligence+ love shone through Beethoven's Ode to Joy; Van Gogh's Starry Nights; a fragile man tried to stop the Totalitarian Tank; a fireman perished so others may live; Mother Teresa hugging orphans and K in talks, all beauties of us. Humanity tears are the resonation of love, beauty and absolute good. We are just clouded by individual egos to have missed this indivisibility nature of humanity. Sages are not individual doers, they're expressions of humanity's clarity, fluidity and compassion : no subject, verb, nor object but a flow in NOW. Awaken and celebrate this flow, not the length of time. Thanks for posting.

In reply to Stanislav Dian. ( couldn't find a reply button... ) This question - in various ways - has been asked many times. There must be somewhere an answer by K to this question. From my side I would suggest to read and take time to ponder over the story " The little red riding hood " in its first version by Charles Perrault - in French ( Le petit chaperon rouge ). The following versions of this tale modified the ending and the meaning ( for commercial reasons? ) . In an implicit way you may start to find out the answer "hidden" in the question you put here. Wish you well too,

Practical memory is pretty vital though.. does that go too in the timeless thoughtless state? If so it might be dangerous - like mistaking red for green & vice-versa traffic lights or not remembering appointments, shopping lists etc.

London Dada your question revolves around you thinking you can make a mistake. This "different" state is exactly the same as your ordinary one except that you get out of your own way. You don't have to constantly check yourself bc there's no need to. If something needs remembering you'll remember, if it doesn't it won't. You don't control it either way.

  • @LondonDada

    @LondonDada

Agreed, that might only happen if awareness is practiced selectively and not holistically, naturally. There's no need to check whether something needs remembering or not when there is perception because that automatically sees what is practically needed and what is not and so action is taken from that platform of sanity.
