Back in the day (early 1990's) one of my boy's gave me my writing name. To this day I still have to deal with new kids trying to rock my name. Till I saw your video I didn't really know why. I have been on tons of freights up and down the west coast, have been in a couple of graffiti magazines (remember those), and have been active dropping burners and doing productions with my crew all these years. If you google my writing name most of the clean funk styles are mine. After seeing your video, I somewhat get it. I'm old school and don't really like putting up my own stuff on the internet. Anything you find that's mine has been put up by others (it's like .5% of what I have done over the years). And maybe that's the problem. Back when I first started, having flix (pictures) of your stuff was a sure fire way of getting caught for everything you did. I didn't catch on to placing thing anonymously on the web as it was new at the time. There was always roomers by other writers that police run internet searches with local graffiti names to try and match your style to build cases (hay, it was the early 2000's). Like most old school writers of my generation we keep to our tight nit crews.

I have a great tip for people who can’t choose their name: you just have to Write down the alphabet in tag form and then circle the letters you like. Make a word with some of those letters and there you got your tag

then id end up with. E, S, T, A, R, O, P, K. and some of those letters cannot be everywhere, like id never end with a p, or start with a k, o or r. I don't want t and e to be next to each other. I only want a 4 or 5 letter name. the options are actually very limited. forming a nice sounding 4 letter word with some of the good letters after 45 years is not so easy. or you can just write kpotsreaoooo.

I started writing Rob1 in the 3rd grade and changed it in the 6th to Faks1 because a guy started writing it and he was from a bigger and more known crew. Rob CBS R.I.P. He was just more committed and also used it for his DJ name. Even though I started writing it first, it didn't matter. Sometimes the guys that come after do more with the name. Around 15 years ago i decide to write my own name instead of an alter ego, so i started to write DRIES, 3 years ago i discorvered that there is also an DRIES in New Zealand. And now im busy to hook up with him and hopefully we gonna spray together!! RESPECT!!

In LA when I was growing up that was a reason to fight. Starts with crossing out but usually ends up in a fight if not something worse.

Usually people identify a writer from the crew they rep or them adding a specific number to their name.

I don't care if someone is using my name in another city as long as it ain't in the city I live in. This one cat that follows me on IG has my name but I think he lives in the UK. I noticed that his style changed and looked very very VERY exactly like mine except he added weird lines and nonsense arrows. I told him "this looks exactly like my tag. Well, Haze is a very famous writer from the US. To my knowledge he's one of the first to create graffiti apparel and more specifically apparel with his name on it. Up to you, I don't think his clothing line still exists but just heads up, he was a very famous writer.

I have searched up my name in Instagram and there are a few pieces with my name but I’m 90% sure that they are one offs, and the people who wrote it just decided to write it once, and they have another word that they usually write

Like the name STOP... I see that shit on a lot at intersections. Homie is everywhere.

What if someone have a similair name in your city, i guess it will look a bit like you dont know whats going on in you city? Like one letter different? This is just an example now, but some one has the name "trest", would it be okay for me to have "frest"? I feel like its a bit to close to someone else name but the style is totally different. I just dont feel like changing my name, i have made it mine with my own style and im not a beginner.

If your going to choose a word that someone else is well known for then you’ll need to be prepared to battle that person to show your worthy of repping that title.

The name Risk is probably the most used name here in California if I had to choose

when he says "from Australia to America" the photo on the right is Canada

I used to write nevr and there was a dude never from my city then I switched tags out of respect and now that’s my guy

It depends what surfaces you hit, if you take a train bombers name and only do legal permission walls that warrants a cross out.

One of the most common tags must be "Risk" its not hard to make up a tag that no one else has, just dont use a real word, make up random letters instead. Crew names can be more difficult though since they often consist of just 3 letters
