Can I observe without controlling or resisting? | J. Krishnamurti
Extract from the fifth small group discussion in Malibu, 1970.

This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

Jesus christ i understand this, for the first time i understand this. This is absolutely clear to me now, dont let yourself be fooled by your thoughts, emotions feelings, the persona. Just observe, dont fight dont reject, dont judge it, and in that observation without reaction, you dont give your ego food, it lives from your reactions, so if you dont react to anything at all, just observe, it will die. That what you feed is that what you are keeping alive.

Then I have real curious doubt if I observed a mango and judged it to be a sweet fruit and react to it by plucking it and eat it and accept how good it is then does it feel ok like it's how it works ?😊

To expose all the accumulation, you must have to empty your mind, and how to do that? Just by observe without being an observer because observer creates division which it gives a description or creating an image that you have about them. Just pay attention to what you are looking at, nothing more and nothing less; look at it with full attention without placing yourself in the center, if there is a center there is a space between as "me" and the observed" and since there is a distance the there is a time (Time does not exist which is the past and the future if you are in the "NOW", and this "TIME" what we called the accumulation of the past and future). Once the mind is empty, and at that stage, the mind becomes active in an excellent state of attention; that's what I understood.

9:50 drops bomb: sleep is actually attention without the censor. also, the way to observe without the censor is to say "i don't know", "i don't know what this is". and then learn, like its nothing you've experienced before-and its not like you have. you haven't because every moment is new, even though we think its the same.

And if you are able to let a feeling of gratitude for the experience of life, you start to see what freedom you really have. I found intention really useful for self accepting my truth of life. Also have the intention of loving the ego, because his "behavior" remain, it is only that we give it another meaning to it, less solid. Thanks for the comment!

That true awareness is not yours. The moment you identify with it you are once again the ego. This is the problem with the notion of the true self which 99.99% of advaita vedanta teachers espouse. You are your thoughts and emotions and feelings, when that ends there is no one left to say this is my true self.

The question would be truely relevant if ‘I’ is taken out and replaced by ‘there’ because the psychological conditioning that has been implanted into the thought processes introduced the notion of an ‘I’ at the centre of consciousness and then separated it from the things thought about. So in this respect the ‘I’ assumes the centre position of thinking and consequently is synonymous with the censor who controls, resists, confuses, contradicts, attaches, motivates and so on and on. It is of course the analyser in the process of analysis because it is the repository of all past knowledge, experience and memory of personal and collective aspects of life, but only in abstraction and therefore bound by time inextricably. Through experimenting with all the elements of this thinking and the machinery that allows it to happen, Krishnamurti saw the whole conglomerate picture of consciousness and how it is structured in mind and the brain including the limitations of fragmented thinking processes. Awareness and observations became the impersonal insight that shines light on the subject matters and consequently insight has posed the question asking whether the conditioning can be set aside effectively and thus enable freedom to emerge in the action of choice less awareness in daily living. Krishnamurti calls it meditation without a meditator. Why does Krishnamurti reject the traditional mainstream society’s principles of reductionist determination of psychological understanding into so-called theoretical categories and regard them as scientific conclusions? Holistic consciousness is non-conditioned meaning that reason, thought and logic which are the hallmark of conditioning cannot enter the other world due to the limitations or incomplete nature of memorised thought processes.

But its highly selective !!. Its not mother nature More wicked uncle nature!! But these aspects are " censored " from the discussion. Why ? Because they threaten that subjective perception that the world "as it really is " is benign, tender and beautifull.

Observing is not seeing listening learning. Those things can be part of an observation if thats what I'm observing.

I have no clue what he is saying about observer being observed or the question of if there is any observation without time, nor do i know what he means by a sensor. I could listen to these videos for the rest of my life and I will not have gotten anything out of this no closer to understanding. I am utterly clueless

The best way to know the truth is to watch the mind

  • @amitdahal1698

If one is asking this question then it means they know that they are not in harmony with nature. It’s the 1st step of recognizing the issue at hand. The 2nd part is how to resolve it takes much practice of watching one’s own mind and it’s many bad habits that has been picked up along the way. If it took you 25-45 years to find out you were lost it will take time to find the true self as well. My recommendation is meditation and unlearning of what the mind has been taught.

Why i am commenting this here is to understand it myself 06:25 & 09:29..sensor takes charge in the moment of inattention....then question is whether inattention is momentary or attention is momentary... definitely as reactions based on our past conditioning of the sensor are momentary therefore inattention is momentary...that means attention is something that is natural which lasts 24x7. i.e. even in sleep it should pervade but is distorted by these reactions of the sensor which is inattention...

What is the answer? How can we expose the censor completely at the very moment? I didn't understand. He said analysing is out, observing partially will also not do. Then what is it??in the end, Is he saying that being aware that there is a censor in me exposes the censor and therefore we don't judge at that particular moment?? Did I get this right?

Is not quite obvious that control and resistance is not an action but opposite which we call reaction? Reaction such as control and resistance demands previous experience or maybe better to say memory. Invocation of memory takes toll on its usage producing imagination which ALWAYS in RELATION with perception. And that relationship can be such as if imagination makes perception more or less clear. We may experience distortion of telescope or microscope optics or even human eye optics whic has tremendous so called fish eye distortion effect in the edge of view. Despite that distortions which is inevitable and natural we can enjoy the look of what we are staring at and not involve invocation of memory or imagination (which both comprises what we call self)

Have been watching his videos for months now and I’m getting increasingly frustrated that there is never any answer or conclusion arrived to, ever. Why do these videos end like this? Did he ever propose an answer to his inquiries? (Bc it’s quite clear despite what he say that there is never any co-inquiring going on with the audience)

theres not supposed to be an answer or a conclusion given. It is an inquiry for you to "actually" follow and find out for yourself.

If the answer is given it becomes an idea and just watch, be aware the other things which comes to ur mind is the center ' me' which is not the awareness.

31.0 violence is absolutely part of life. Ouch! We may direct it a bit a little here a little there but conflict is our habitation. Unless it is not. No time no method. We are here. Do you, do I, see it, now.

The truth can never be told. You will never find an answer. But will you still question? That's when you know the truth. When you're observing for an answer, it means there's a censor, a motive, an observer and all of these are resistances between you and the truth. Observe from a place of nothingness where you while you're questioning you know the answer, this altogether obliterates the idea of time.
