With 100m as well! with 100m you could go out and grab a borderline world class striker, a 27 year old doesnt fit arsenal's transfer policies either. Lots of players are out there and Watkins isn't the one I'd want, In fact I'd rather keep Havetz as the 9 and sign a proper 8 to play alongside Rice and Odegaard with that kind of money.

Ollie Watkins is overrated as hell. The kind of striker Arsenal are looking for is the one that will make an impact on the big games. In theory the caliber of striker they are looking for is of the prime Diego costa , benzema level where they know how to win or score a goal under most testing circumstances. Vlahovic matches this from a mentality standpoint but needs to improve on his volume of goals. Isak scored a lot of goals but it’s still to be seen if he has the mentality to score in big games. He already did in anfiekd so is promising. But yeah ole Watkins is not anywhere near the level required to win big trophies

It’s funny listening to Jon McKenzie. He never ever calls out City for what it is. He talks about possible burn out for Arsenal, and mentions how “good” Pep is at rotating. Ermm maybe that has something to do with Pep having the perfect sized squad (not too large not too small) to optimise rotation. Keeps the bench happy and is able to bring on 300m worth of talent at 60mins into a game. Maybe call it out for the BS it is rather than something “special”. Whilst this continues City will continue to win and the the value of the Prem as a product is eroded.

All he's saying is that arteta needs to start trusting his players more.one of the reasons why foden has become so good is because earliar in his career gurdiola trusted him and gave him more game time. Not only was it good for squad rotation but it allowed foden to develop his game and gain more experience, how do you expect players like Smith Rowe and fabio viera to improve and have an impact on your team if you don't give them more playing time?

@@victorjustine that’s not all he’s saying, because that doesn’t and wouldn’t make sense. You can’t compare the talent that is Foden with Arsenal’s bench warmers…ESR, Nelson, Fabio Vieira aren’t anywhere near his talent level. Also Pep had the luxury of all the depth elsewhere on his bench to allow him to steadily develop Foden. Arsenal simply don’t have the quality/depth of City so Arsenal can’t rotate to the same level at Pep. City essentially have two first choice teams…makes managing rotation a whole lot easier.

Manchester United have tried the big name managers - Van Gaal and Mourinho, and they both failed. Then the players threw Ole and Rangnick under the bus, and they seem to just be completely and utterly downing tools under ten Hag. This isn't some up and comer who is making his way through the ranks and learning his trade. This is a guy who got Ajax within minutes of the Champions League Final just 5 years ago, and defeated Juventus AND Real Madrid on the way to doing so. This is an astute, smart manager who clearly knows his stuff. Maybe he has some communication issues, but he commands respect. Look at how Jadon Sancho has performed at Borussia Dortmund since he left United on loan. He looks like a completely different player and the one that made United spend £73 million in the first place. There is clearly something wrong within the culture at the club, and that starts from the very top. This is not a bad manager, and this is not a bad group of players, but too many of the players are focusing on their internal dick swinging contests rather than doing what's right for the team. The manager always bares some of the responsibility, and rightfully so, but the players have been getting away with phoning it in for far too long, and if Manchester United ever want to be an elite club again, that needs to change. Mentality is bred from the top down.

The Athletic is usually insightful, or perhaps I should say David Ornstein is. Look here are the facts, as an Arsenal supporter. City are the best squad and have been for 5 or 6 seasons now. Pep inherited a PL winning side, spent heavy early, and have built what looks like an unassailable advantage with heavy spending early on. He is a wonderful coach as well. Arsenal and Mikel are on a different trajectory, in that we are lagging behind the legacy spend and stratospheric salary bill that City is carrying. City are the best team, it’s marginal now, Mikel has built a team capable of challenging, but it is short of the players needed to dethrone City, which they will hopefully put right in the summer. Arsenal are so good, they are a very very good team, improving them isn’t easy, it’s marginal gains now. Ollie Watkins is very good, but he doesn’t make the difference. In part there is something about letting the Arsenal forward line off leash and let them be their creative selves. And adding some world class talent.

Title: "Can Arsenal break Old Trafford curse?" Actual podcast: Let's talk about how good Man City are and how "weirdly" Arsenal can't rotate as much as them despite spending only 1/3 of the amount they have since Pep has taken over. I'm a Liverpool fan, so this isn't coming from a place of bias, but I feel like The Athletic, particularly this podcast, genuinely has something against Arsenal. You dragged Whites name through the mud, you constantly reference "how much" Arteta has spent despite it being less than 5 other clubs since he has took over and you very rarely want to focus on the good they're actually doing. It's really strange.
