Can-Am Spyder. What to do if your parking brake on your Can Am Spyder locks up and won't release!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Recently my Spyder F3 started having issues with the parking brake not releasing after starting up. This is a common issue with some Can-Am Spyders. There are 3 things you can do if this happens to get it released so you can safely get home or to a dealer.

    If you are having this problem on your Spyder currently, there is a service bulletin currently out about this happening. Mine is due to a motor and I have it in for service. Because of the bulletin the repair is of no cost at this time.

    I have to put a copyright claim on it so please remove the section showing my video. I pay for commercial licensing of everything i use which in turn forces me to put claims if copied. I dont mind you mentioning the video but showing it is different. I do appreciate the support but due to legalities i have to ask for removal as in turn i can be sued if my videos are copied because of my commercial licensing issued to me only. I did not claim a strike on your channel just asked for removal within 7days. I wanted to allow you the time to fix. If you just cut the section out with my video showing i can release the claim. Thank you for contacting me back

    I have a 2016 Can Am Spyder and noticed that the parking brakes system would get stuck every once in a while. Turn the ignition on and listen to the sounds the Spyder makes. It will begin to make some actuator sounds like it's moving a pneumatic system. Then it will go quiet for a few seconds but close to the 20-sec mark after the ignition was turned to on, it will make some more sounds (maybe a pump or something). I wait the whole 20 seconds before I try to release the parking brakes and that seems to help prevent it from getting stuck. I am not an expert on the Spyder system but it seems to me it needs to "prep" itself before it can move the parking brakes.

    It does sound pneumatic and that is what I thought at first as well. It is a small motor most of the time that goes out and they have a recall on them currently. If yours is not disengaging when you push the button, but after a few times it starts to work, yours is doing the same thing as mine. It is starting to go bad probably and does become louder as it goes bad. I noticed on level ground mine was ok, but if it was parked on a slope, I guess the tension wouldnt release as easy. Mine went out where there was no cell service but fortunately I knew what to do to release it. After mine was replaced it doesn't make the sound it did before oddly enough. You can still hear it a little but you have to kinda know what to listen for. I would keep some tools handy, because when it doesn't work anymore it will probably be at the worst time. Thanks for watching and support and hope yours doesn't go out.

    Usually it is a motor issue which is in the front of the motorcycle but it could be other things as well. This at least allows you to get the bike to the dealer or home.

    Do you actually have to pull that spring or would just loosening the 2 nuts on the cable be enough?

  • @MOABMAN

    @MOABMAN

    It is best to remove the spring altogether when you are going to be driving it. That way it does not cause any damage or accidental brake locking up.

    At the time of the video, you were only able to get parts through the dealer. Almost all of the time it is a small motor that releases the brake that went bad. There is a slight chance of it being something else. If anyone is interest in fixing it and knows it is the motor issue it is a pretty easy replace on F3's and you can now order a replacement motor. Thanks for the comment!
