We need a Derek progression series similar to the ones back in the day with Lance and Nigel’s fiancé Courtney

It makes it seem possible to learn tricks when you're struggling
This was more helpful than any kick flip tutorial I’ve seen! Seeing someone fail is honestly more helpful than seeing someone succeed 💯💯
Derek will drop in the vert ramp before Gabe does.

Gabe is definitely starting to make it seem that way sometimes. Gabe if you don't drop in before Derek we gonna clown you cause you got this dude(so don't let that happen).
Having recieved this weekend my first ever board (beginners complete, thank you Braille!) and at the ripe old age of 38, I aspire to be able to just be able to roll around as comfortably as Derek does in the first minute or so of his hour! You got this Derek, thank you so much.
Derek, I know you can get that. Trust me, it’s a journey. Keep practicing, keep trying, and we’ll see you land one soon. Do not give up my dude. 👊👍
It's so cute seeing skaters tryna hold back on helping😂❤. Also I was sooo invested on him landing, ik he will get it soon enough, if he gets thru tht mind block.

Totally
Honestly, thankyou for putting up this video - it's great to get context on how hard the 'basics' can be. Now I want to see a video where someone gets an hour to coach Derek on getting a kickflip landed, and they get to split the money if he succeeds in that hour.
I have yet to land one myself but seeing someone else trying over and over again is very interesting as it does make me backtrack and analyze my own errors. Derek's back leg surely scoots off to the back instead of being lifted, it's what makes him go back a bit while the kick often moved the board forward. It's something that looks like it needs more muscle memory on that side as well. It applies to the ollie as well so perhaps it's a more gratifying training to get that right actually landing ollies getting that back leg ready for the kickflip. Recording myself failing is surely something I'm going to do as analyzing whilst doing it just doesn't seem to give me enough feedback in such a short amount of time. Thanks for the video guys, and it's just a great lesson showing most people don't get it in a short amount of time, but with enough commitment progress will be made. Great stuff.

Yeah I started recording my ollies a bit and you can usually see what needs to be done. It also helps seeing how it looks outside so you know how much progress you made from all that work! Last recording I did my pop was higher than I thought it was and it looked like Derek's stationary ollies now. Something I might try next session is maybe different angles. Like I want to see how my foot moves in each angle just to make sure something isn't off. My board turns when I ollie stationary though I think its just a stationary thing since the momentum isn't forward like how a moving ollie would be.
Now I need to see Derek land the kickflip.
You can do it derek! I know you got this, tell gabe to let you see this video and you will see what your legs are doingback leg has to go down and then up(not out toward the back)front leg needs to flick all the way to the end and jump a little higher to allow for the rotation. I bet you got this in 5 trys once you adjust. Love braille ❤
What a sweet kid. Need more like him at the park
As a fellow many year beginner skater I feel this struggle forreal.. I'm 31 skated off and on since I was 11, I've landed 3 Kickflips and one heel flip in my life, and this is coming from someone who has ollied a 3 stair in the street, 180'd a lil ledge at a park, can board slide a low ledge or rail, 50-50 anything I can roll onto, can rock to fakie on small quarter pipes and a did drainage ditch once in the street... I can relate alot with Derick being super comfy with ollie's and rolling around but not having the more finesse technical side of flip tricks down.. but seeing him just go at trying it for an hour definitely inspires me to get back at trying to improve!
We need more of this
U guys should have given him tips to land his first kickflip cuz that feeling of a first time land is well worth mote than a hundred buck.
I'm along for the ride. You got it Derek.
Right there with Derek. I’ve done a Heelflip but never a kickflip! Let’s go Derek!
C'mon Derek , you can DO IT ! ! ! All the bros got you back here !🤙👊 Greetings from Romania! 👊
Love this series hahah
Why is that me like Gabe at 2:02 spinning the rollie chair on call xDD!!
Need part 2 dereck u got this
Shoutout Derek man! Great commitment 👏
If gabe should drop in. Leave it in the comments below

I hope Derek lands his first kick flip before Gabe drops in.
We all know the struggle of kickflips, but if you really put in the effort you can do it.
Please more videos of this guy
I didn't even notice the back leg kicking out until Nigel pointed it out! Focused so much on the flick it made the back leg push out too 😊
When Gabe is talking about inertia and momentum can't help but look at that square of plywood on the roof...
Dig this Braille!
I would watch any video series with step by step instructions on how to do each progressively difficult trick staring with the basics.

Check out the Bootcamp How to Skate series on this very channel!
Gabe, have you changed anything in your weightlifting program? You look noticeably more jacked, Or do you think it is just your consistency of sticking with it? What set-to-rep ratio have you been using mainly? I know you have been growing but maybe it's just me but in this video, I really noticed a big difference in your muscle development, especially your pecs
LETS GO DEREK! I havent even watched this yet. lfg
Needs to work on the back foot not flicking out at the same time which is leading to that split leg scissor kick that is happening (reflexive at first, i know because when we start out doing them sometimes the back leg/foot inadvertently mimics the front leg/foot motions and movements) But, you have the form and the steps...just gotta send it and commit. I never tell anyone that unless I'm completely confident in the skater's abilities, based on where they're at! The few that were primo, were honestly the better of them even though they're dangerous unless intentionally done, it means you're getting better at keeping the board under you. This may not work for most people but for me it was actually a little easier to be moving/rolling even if just a little bit, than it was trying them stationary/motionless. That's just me tho. Definitely try it and see what works... you are right there, very close. WHEN you land it, it will be a celebratory moment indeed. Let's Gooooo Derek, dont feel defeated, think of it as regrouping and recuperating. Its not an easy trick for everyone starting off. Some tricks will be. This could be one for you bro. Great job YOU GOT THIS
Hey Derek nice work brother. What I was noticing is that when you jump up to pop you keep leaning slightly backwards (what kept shooting the board forward) and your back pop leg was too stiff. When you explode up to pop you need a full extension on the back leg but at the last moment your ankle needs to snap down as you jump just the slightest bit forward (to stay over your board) and, as gabe kept saying, bring those legs up and allow the board to flip. Spot the griptape extend your legs to catch and BOOM! That being said I fully understand that it's a lot easier said than done. I've been skating for years now and I'm still figuring that trick out.
Part of what makes skateboarding such fun (and a great workout) is how much work it takes to land that one trick! Once you skate hours a day for weeks you’ll be in shape 😂can’t however if you learn fast gotta struggle and struggle big time, but you can NOT give up !!!!
You are the best skateboarder creators let’s give them some respect
Back foot on the opposite edge of the tail that your flicking from for a counter balance and try and keep everything up and down no spread eagle you’ll get one and roll so your body is moving with the board and your not missing the board
Its always the landing. Standing on my board rolling is fine but the second I go up in the air its hard to perfectly catch the board and land with the wobble and bend my knees because my brain tells me to counterbalance by standing upright. I dont know if that makes sense but I got problem sticking my feet to the board on the bolts and land in a way I find comfortable
Nice work Derek and keep trying Braille
I would love to see more of derek
number 1 thing I see is the jumping straight up sometimes even backwards. With that jump even an ollie would be pretty sketch. Jumping up and forward in the direction of your feet keeps you above the board for a clean catch
Hang the front foot heel a little more off the board and put the tip of your toes right on the first hardware screw closest to your foot.
Nigel- how can I get in contact with you cause my sons a marine and I’d like to support what you bring towards veterans if you do. He’s 1.5 years in and you actually got me back into skating again at 42 since I was 14. Love it and just dig the basic way of having fun again

Message me on instagram if you have one!
You can do it!
love that guy
You got it , Derek .
Not only should Derek rock to fakie, if he wants to progress let's see a series of him literally going through Aaron's learn to skate program. It'd be he'll of a marketing opportunity for his videos and braille + but also prove it works/encourage newbies
Man. I can barely turn right. You got this
he's got this for sure
That intro was 🔥
Derrick is an inspiration
Homies thighs are gonna be on fiiiiiiiire tomorrow. Love to see this kind of content.
He’s got it let him do it again one more hour a couple days from now🔥🔥
The Christmas tree through the roof certainly had inertia.
Derek the GOAT. Gabe the GOAT too for dropping in from vert
So I found a Walmart braille board at Ollie’s bargain outlet this past weekend. It was priced at $20. So I’m not sure at what price point the got them for but Walmart still took a loss. They may have gotten them for the $9 or close to it seems.
I landed my first kickflip when they dropped me off the operating table when i was born. It was siiiiiiiiick.
Who doesn't appreciate and love Derek? COME ON! ♥️♥️♥️
I got back to skating a while ago after I quit all my bad habits. Went to the park and shredded so I decided to go 2 days in a row and sprained my wrist on my first send. Ill be back. I love skating again
Go Derek!
As a beginner this motivates me
Finaly DEREEEEK! LETSGO!
I for sure think he can land it! edit: Even though he didn't this time, Derek got sooo close! Can't wait to see him land it! We need more Derek content✨
You were so close. I bet if you put in another solid hour of effort like this, you will definitely land it. ❤

Not if he keeps repeating the same errors he made during this whole hour. You can't do the same error over and over and expect to get different results. He spent the whole time bailing.

@@agomodern Did you not see the progress though? That trend will continue.
@agomodern

@@joshknight1620 Until he knows what he's doing wrong I'm not sure he'll land it. He has to be on top of the board, not pushing the board out in front so he doesn't land on it. He is bailing and there's no way to land it if that continues to happen.
The braille warehouse is so much bigger in person
There’s skateboard trainer/stoppers somewhere near? Why don’t you use them?
I been trying this whole year and still batteling, still fighting. It's so close I can smell it. But autumn is here and... winter is comming haha so yeah
So comfortable, it's his glasses.
Derrick💪🏾!!!❤🔥❤🔥
Derek Steeze is off the charts. Unintentionally. If this dude stuck to it every day all day. And pushed himself. He would have the steeeeeeziest style ong.
I’m having the same problem with my back leg wanting to slide out instead of popping any tips?

Bad for the knees trust me
Yes
I know fear is a factor, but i think it's 100% easier and safer to try tricks at a low speed over stationary.
DEREK!!!!
Derek amigo, ahora vas a tener que aprenderlo por todos los que hinchamos por vos
You got it dog. Couple more days
Watching someone try with no help and fail=discouraging . Watching someone land a trick with help and education= encouraging.
Yes. Teach it on grass tbh. So easy to practice 100 KFs on grass. Once you get the flip down and land a couple, go to concrete and try. Once you land a few, start trying it while moving with pads. Guys like Danny Way learn the hardest stuff in foam or on airbags now. Grass is just a cheap airbag. ❤
Ez with coach rick ;)
Can you try the Winkowski Pro G3 please (i said please)
I love Nigel's caveman growling charades advice. I just learned fs nollie shuvs today. I'm 47 year old proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Y’all should have Derek go through the SB made simple tricks
If Derek does a rock to fakie and a rock and roll Gabe should have to drop in the vert ramp
Since Gabe wants to try and make Derek rock to fakie, Derek should have replied, I'll learn it when you drop in on vert. lol
I'm not wearing my glasses so I fr thought that was Gabe and I was so confused.
This looks a lot like my kickflip journey, which still hasn't concluded 🙃
it's interesting, how easy he was able to put his front foot on the deck and it's exactly opposite for me, interesting to see the learning process tho

Not gonna lie. I really thought we were not getting a video today, and I was sad.
His foot is on the center of the board it has to be more to the right , and flick more up , the hints were there
Make a thing of you guys were you “teach” derick
U got this bro! Great practice...next time give the man advice from the start lol
i'm here for the Derek arc.
jumping the highter you can everyday, like 3x10 time should help to get stronger legs and get more "air time'
