    Honestly, thankyou for putting up this video - it's great to get context on how hard the 'basics' can be. Now I want to see a video where someone gets an hour to coach Derek on getting a kickflip landed, and they get to split the money if he succeeds in that hour.

  • @bflippsytrance
    @bflippsytrance8 ай бұрын

    I have yet to land one myself but seeing someone else trying over and over again is very interesting as it does make me backtrack and analyze my own errors. Derek's back leg surely scoots off to the back instead of being lifted, it's what makes him go back a bit while the kick often moved the board forward. It's something that looks like it needs more muscle memory on that side as well. It applies to the ollie as well so perhaps it's a more gratifying training to get that right actually landing ollies getting that back leg ready for the kickflip. Recording myself failing is surely something I'm going to do as analyzing whilst doing it just doesn't seem to give me enough feedback in such a short amount of time. Thanks for the video guys, and it's just a great lesson showing most people don't get it in a short amount of time, but with enough commitment progress will be made. Great stuff.

  • @popo0129

    @popo0129

    Yeah I started recording my ollies a bit and you can usually see what needs to be done. It also helps seeing how it looks outside so you know how much progress you made from all that work! Last recording I did my pop was higher than I thought it was and it looked like Derek's stationary ollies now. Something I might try next session is maybe different angles. Like I want to see how my foot moves in each angle just to make sure something isn't off. My board turns when I ollie stationary though I think its just a stationary thing since the momentum isn't forward like how a moving ollie would be.

I know you got this, tell gabe to let you see this video and you will see what your legs are doingback leg has to go down and then up(not out toward the back)front leg needs to flick all the way to the end and jump a little higher to allow for the rotation. I bet you got this in 5 trys once you adjust. Love braille ❤

    As a fellow many year beginner skater I feel this struggle forreal.. I'm 31 skated off and on since I was 11, I've landed 3 Kickflips and one heel flip in my life, and this is coming from someone who has ollied a 3 stair in the street, 180'd a lil ledge at a park, can board slide a low ledge or rail, 50-50 anything I can roll onto, can rock to fakie on small quarter pipes and a did drainage ditch once in the street... I can relate alot with Derick being super comfy with ollie's and rolling around but not having the more finesse technical side of flip tricks down.. but seeing him just go at trying it for an hour definitely inspires me to get back at trying to improve!

What set-to-rep ratio have you been using mainly? I know you have been growing but maybe it's just me but in this video, I really noticed a big difference in your muscle development, especially your pecs

    Needs to work on the back foot not flicking out at the same time which is leading to that split leg scissor kick that is happening (reflexive at first, i know because when we start out doing them sometimes the back leg/foot inadvertently mimics the front leg/foot motions and movements) But, you have the form and the steps...just gotta send it and commit. I never tell anyone that unless I'm completely confident in the skater's abilities, based on where they're at! The few that were primo, were honestly the better of them even though they're dangerous unless intentionally done, it means you're getting better at keeping the board under you. This may not work for most people but for me it was actually a little easier to be moving/rolling even if just a little bit, than it was trying them stationary/motionless. That's just me tho. Definitely try it and see what works... you are right there, very close. WHEN you land it, it will be a celebratory moment indeed. Let's Gooooo Derek, dont feel defeated, think of it as regrouping and recuperating. Its not an easy trick for everyone starting off. Some tricks will be. This could be one for you bro. Great job YOU GOT THIS

  • @AstronoizeOfficial
    @AstronoizeOfficial8 ай бұрын

    Hey Derek nice work brother. What I was noticing is that when you jump up to pop you keep leaning slightly backwards (what kept shooting the board forward) and your back pop leg was too stiff. When you explode up to pop you need a full extension on the back leg but at the last moment your ankle needs to snap down as you jump just the slightest bit forward (to stay over your board) and, as gabe kept saying, bring those legs up and allow the board to flip. Spot the griptape extend your legs to catch and BOOM! That being said I fully understand that it's a lot easier said than done. I've been skating for years now and I'm still figuring that trick out.

    Its always the landing. Standing on my board rolling is fine but the second I go up in the air its hard to perfectly catch the board and land with the wobble and bend my knees because my brain tells me to counterbalance by standing upright. I dont know if that makes sense but I got problem sticking my feet to the board on the bolts and land in a way I find comfortable

    number 1 thing I see is the jumping straight up sometimes even backwards. With that jump even an ollie would be pretty sketch. Jumping up and forward in the direction of your feet keeps you above the board for a clean catch

    Yes. Teach it on grass tbh. So easy to practice 100 KFs on grass. Once you get the flip down and land a couple, go to concrete and try. Once you land a few, start trying it while moving with pads. Guys like Danny Way learn the hardest stuff in foam or on airbags now. Grass is just a cheap airbag. ❤
