genuinly one of if not the nicest camper conversation i have seen. Your woodwork looks amazing! The little details really make it. Well Done!
Fantastic work Tim, no need to doubt yourself
Honestly Tim, thank you for taking the time to upload these clips of your camper build. I get a lot of inspiration and tips from watching how you do stuff. I could watch you all day! In a non-creepy way... 🤭
The window sill and worktop look tremendous!!!
Wow! That looks bloody marvelous!!
You can use a biscuit cutter in a router (half & quarter shank available) and standard No 10 or 20 biscuits not necessarily a biscuit cutter but the are easier if you have one
Love the detail in showing us how. Brilliant
Class Tim, well done. Love the woodwork vids!
Really loving the worktop ! Look's amazing !
Great work Tim, well done.
Looks great, top ideas as usual!
appreciate your attention to detail and craft :)
Brilliant work Tim keep it up. Love watching your videos.
absolutely love these videos and your other ones of course tim, my go to you tube channel... keep them coming..
Looks fantastic!
Counter top turned out great. Only thing I would do is make sure and seal the cut where the sink is going in. The condensation build up on the metal will seep into the wood and make it swell.

Yeah the whole thing got coated twice in and out, the cmaera battery ran out and so did my patience that day.... :-)
Looks great!!
Great job,. You my man are a master carpenter. You should be so proud of what you have accomplished.
Congratulation on the 40k and Tim don't be putting yourself down my friend your work is second to non, nice job all round have a fab holiday
Ingenious idea on that worktop; very impressive. Cheers
Great stuff lad, keep it going.
You got it!! Congratulations on the 40k
Absolutely fantastic bit of ingenuity on that work top 👍🏻 It’s really looking fantastic. Keep the videos coming please Stevie
Congratulations on reaching 40K =D
Loving it!
Your doing a good job for your family mate budget is every thing
I think I’ve just found my new worktop for my refit. What a good idea. Loving this video series mate. Loving your van.
Looks amazing nice job Tim :)

Thanks. :-)
Looks fab mate, it’s so hard work, doing a vw crafter, your videos are a big inspiration, I’ll send you some pics when I’m done!
Looking fantastic, Tim! I love the windowsill, Pretty sure your kids will appreciate it when they sit in the backseats and can put their stuff on there :D
Posh job! Looks fantastic.
Tim, I don't usually comment on videos but this video was really useful! I'm in the process of converting a SWB Relay myself with my other half. Your videos are always of use and enjoyable! Keep it up mate, cheers!
Great idea and looks the part too.
Another great video Tim thanks. These are definitely the best build vids out there, proper thought going into everything. I'd love to do a build myself, I love a project, but better half wants a motorhome as she thinks it will be better. I'm not so sure. Bigger but with compromises!
Lots of work but lovely. 👍
That was incredible really really well done , like you I’m a weight fanatic , it does make so much difference especially the distribution of weight throughout the van . Brilliant stuff and thanks .

I agree, weight is king. It adds up quickly, I believe.
Where’s the campervan playlist!! Love your videos!!
Thank you for watching you say,....thank you so much for doing! Not far to the finish line. Good luck have family time fun time.
Really good, I am no expert either but I have been woodworking for years as a hobby and I am impressed with your skills. Well done.
Such a nice job. Im starting to wonder how i did my conversion without a pocket hole. Fair play for doing it and filming it. I tried to do a video on my van last week and getting a decent video out is harder than converting the van !
Interesting vid, and top job.
Lovely skills mate (y)
Discovered your channel a week ago and have binged watched for the last couple of days. Loving it, brilliant. Can't believe you don't have a Biscuit Cutter though. LOL.
You done a great job with that worktop,I'm always using leftover oak and walnut flooring for cheeseboards and sidetables it really makes good use of those leftover planks,Really hope to get my camper project started soon, I'm in the same situation as you in that I have 2 young girls to accommodate same age actually 5 and 2,I might have to rethink my layout I was gonna go for 2 cubbys just above wheel arches with a central corridor and fixed double above with a central cupboard at the end accessed from the back to house batteries gas and what not, I don't know how you find time to do it all I'm a do it yourself type person and you put me to shame the amount of work your getting though well done
That's a really great idea using the engineered wood flooring for the bench top. I struggled to find something that looks like wood without the weight. I ended up with dense wood 18mm HPL laminated plywood, so heavy stuff, but not too thick. BUT I think the engineered wood would be lighter. I'm definitely going to try your method next time. I wish I had used it on my floor too, as it's lighter than the vinyl I ended up with! But then not as waterproof...
So I understand (could be wrong) that the chamfers on flooring is to allow for a bit of slop in the tongue and groove alignment. Without the chamfer any errors in alignment between one board and its neighbor would be obvious with the sweep of a hand (or foot as it were). And yes, a biscuit joiner would have been handy - not too expensive either.
You never done carpentry work you said..... hehehe why you have all them tolls for, to look at them lol ......You doing a great job, welldone

Done plenty of renovation work just not cabinets and kitchen type joinery. 👍
Yes an excellent Idea using Oak flooring - B & Q often have spare lengths at £1.00 a time - Solid Oak, engineered Oak even whole bunches of Laminate (which is quite useful - dimensionally stable and relatively light - for say drawer bases etc.) Great work though I do think you are a bit hard on yourself as it usually turns out brilliantly :) The Electrics however are a whole other ball game - I would much prefer to slowly build it up myself so I understood how it all fits together rather than a single (much more expensive) solution.
Looks great, I wouldn't tile though... The wood looks nice
going through the comments and it looks like I'm the only girl here :) i found your channel few months ago and i just love to watch your dedication to all your projects and to your amazing family :) keep up the good work!

The Restoration Couple haha cool :) have a great first trip in the van! and congrats on the 40k subs!
Dude, having never done anything like that myself, I seriously thought you were a pro :-)
отличная работа
With all of the white in the van I would leave the wood countertop. To make the surface water resistant I would suggest a Marine grade wood protector.
The pocket hole king

I bought my own jig a couple of weeks ago, don't know how I lived without one
Ive decided to go for a different option all together for the worktop in the sprinter im creating, 36mm larch hollowed out on the underside to 20mm where possible to cut down on weight, i hadn't seen your channel till today, a lot of your thoughts are similar to myself. Im also a carpenter who doesn't get electronics all that well. Haha
@TheRestorationCouple

I’ve done similar before in a table top. Good way to keep the weight down. For me I just wanted something super stable as the van sees pretty extreme temps for solid wood. Providing it’s nice and dry and fixed down m I can’t see a problem though. 👍
Well deserved 40k subs! With this being a very popular series I'd love to know what happens when this content dries up, if you'll continue with other type of videos you do or got some other big project venture planned?
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
Lots to do and more planned, both van and diy. Re roof, workshop build, extensions, timber framing and when that drys up we will probably building a new house. 😀👍
great result, you could have run the flooring through the thicknesser and take off a thin layer
Getting there now

Slowly but surely! :-)
Nice job !!! Would have proposed to use the planner tu remove some 1 or 2 mm to remove the v hole ;) ( sorry if already said... i have not gone through the 70 comments ;))..in any case one of the most interesting channel I'm susbribing to so far. Always pedagogic in your building méthode description. Chears from a froggy French viewer ;)
Love the series mate but wouldn't worry about the weight in there you have cut down alot of unwanted weight with the way you have done most of it even though the van would carry a hell of a lot more than you would need and still be happy. Enjoy your holidays in this beast 💪👍

I mentioned it in another video but my aim is to come out with a decent payload as we need to use the van for all sorts, including pallets and green oak beams so just trying to keep it future proof. :-)

The Restoration Couple fair enough love the series though like how much detail you put into your work. 👍
What a great looking work top. The effort paid off. Just an afterthought, and I know hindsight is a great thing, but did you consider looking for an unwanted oak table top on ebay or a local freecycle page.?
Great vids... keep it going, luving the van stuff..we have a VW T6 and had it converted, so to watch the process from scratch is amazing and inspiring..although you're making me feel lazy :-)!! Vanlife is so cool with a young family.. NC500 is a must in spring btw! What do you do full time Tim?.. goodness knows where you get the time?!

Thanks. I am a photographer, when not distracted by this lot! :-)
ducato is something like 6 cm wider in the back. made ma crazy doing angles
Very nice job!! Did you use some kind of Jig pockethole extender, 'cause it is longer than I've seen on my search in the shops?
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
It all came in teh K5 kit, I just mounted it to a board.
Yay ELECTRICAL!!! ;) next..
Looks great as ever. Although why don't you wipe off excess glue while it's wet? Would give you less to sand off afterwards.
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
Easier to chip off, especially when lots of clamps in the way.
R u using cooker cut-out for a chopping board?
That looks exactly like the engendered oak flooring we have in the living room with the black epoxy filled knots/voids , one thing Iv noticed the small epoxy filled voids have started popping out , it's been down 2 yrs and wasn't cheap , just thought I would let you know
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have spotted that before. I cut most of it out on the worktop to leave pure oak but will just have to keep an eye on the table which has more in it. Fairly easy to replace with decent eposxy if it needed though. :-)
@chrisbannister2137
6 жыл бұрын
The Restoration Couple , we had the wire blushed finish for the extra texture so I can't fill and sand back as easy without loosing texture ! Hay ho , vans looking well ,
Tim...I have the same table saw, with those awful tabbed grooves...I like your sled, did you grind the tabs off? or make T shaped runners?
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
Yes cut them back, the sled works well enough for what I need. The sliding mitre fence that comes with it is terribly sloppy though but nver got round to sorting a replacement.
Been following you for a few years now. Great video, as always, however you missed the one thing I really wanted to know! After using osmo, can you still use a standard silicone sealant to seal the sink?
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, or at least I have always done so in the past. Our kitchen oak worktop is siliconed to the oak upstand and all good.
Is there anything you can't do? Bunting like Jo makes maybe? There must be something. That worktop was perfection.
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
She wouldn't let me near a sewing machine! :-)
I haven't read the comments so may have been suggested, could you have glued up as per factory tongue etc AFTER thicknessing to remove the 45 deg bevel if you have enough meat of veneer to go at?
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
Yes possibly but didn't trust my planer knives enough! The way flooring is made leaves a gap underneath the tongue anyway for expansion so still would have been tricky to glue up i think. Would work for other uses though, I'll try next time.
Gosh where do you get the time to both build and produce video with such amazing quality?

Heavy worktop v case of wine. Priorities are important. Take the wine, drink it and who'll even be able to focus on the worktop?

Why didn't you flip it and put the cooktop over the oven and the sink on the other side? If your sink has an issue won't it damage your oven?
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
This way seems to make best use of drawer space below. There will be a divider between sink and oven anyway so that should cover things just in case.
Watching but one question ?? lost track on the videos because they started off being numbered and seem out of sequence now , all the best
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
Playlist should have them all in order. I gave up numbering as titles were jsut too long and I lost track!
Looking good but I wouldn't be so worried about the weight. Van was designed to carry way more.
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
I haven't been to concerned on the weight side of things however I am hoping to still have a decent payload when done so I can load a pallet in the back or oak beams and not have to worry about it.
Great vids, find the music annoying though ! sorry !!!
Or you could have used a bench mounted router and guide. Then you mentioned using a router table.
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, router table woudl have helped, to be honest it was really all down to my budget table saw as the alu fence is flimsy. I will get round to upgrading the fence one day to keep it more square and rigid.
glue them up, saw up a groove, fit an insert and then sand it down. maybe try that for next time.
I like what ever you do but you can work than put sound on
Really great video series Tim..... but no more plinky-plonky whistley background music pleeeese!
Love your light weight option, looks great. Another product that I’ve e use for countertop is StoneCoat countertops resin. You can make it any color you like and it’s really durable stuff. My niece and I put it in a in law studio at a fraction of the cost for real stone. Can mix up just the amount you need. I plan to use it i my design. Im not as handy with carpentry as you are. I will try to add a link for viewers. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lGWYxLSzZ6-vYso.html
Your class of workmanship and dedication deserve a better sound track! How about some Mozart, Beethoven or one of the other old masters?
Next time...try your router
This time I will use Stodoys plans for this.
would have easier to get some oak veneer ply.
@TheRestorationCouple
6 жыл бұрын
It certainly would but with less than 1mm veneer on oak ply it would leave no room for sanding and refinishing. Plus they don't have as much character/figure on them.
