I’m building my own van vary soon, should get the van in three weeks so I will be binge watching your van build on repeat 🤣 you are so good at explaining what you do and why you do it, the fact you speak English helps a lot too, those Americans with there 27 inches and 25 28ths really seem to be trying to make things hard for themselves and everybody else 😀 I love your channel, thank you for taking the time to share your work.

I love the bunk idea , I’m going to make a guess that once you start using the van you will go for the fixed bed with a garage . This would also provide better storage for the kids stuff that they will bring and is a good safe place to keep valuables when not in the van . This will be an amazing van . Great video

You can never have too many Van Build Videos (:0)> Looking forward to the next 3 years of construction and modifications :) You have enough room there for 2 Murphy Beds. Love the Carpentery thought process you bring to this project. What was the 2-part filler you used on the edge? - much prefer real wood to plasticy perfection.

Looks gorgeous. I've watched loads of woodwork in vans... with such perfect fits... what's the deal with van rocking left and right on uneven roads etc? No ones mentioned anything about this.

You can make a double layered sofa, in the sense that you just slide out both frames to the middle and make a bed. But then the sofa needs to be extended inwards a bit, because double the measure you have now leaves a gap in the middle.

Looking great! Tbh I'll be a bit sad once the van series is over, it's one of my favourites on your channel :D Have you found a solution yet to your bed-sofa-storage dilemma? And may I ask how long the bed is going to be, i.e. with the exact dimesions you're working with? If you mentioned that in the video I've probably missed it. I know the gap is 1.20 m , but what about the total length?

I noticed that leisureparts.co.uk sell 3mm sheets of finished ply which I was considering glueing onto some 12mm standard ply and making a large saving but having the same finish. They are still £55 a sheet but obviously much better than £107

I dare say you'll be covering it soon, but have you got details of the bed/hammocks you've ordered? Was planning to mount a "proper" double/king size bed on our top bunk but you've got me thinking now and this is certainly a good way to save some weight.

Video next week once the sewing machine has done its bit. Basically Ali scaffold poles with deck chair type canvas between. They then will hopefully roll up for storing. 👍

Look forward to it! Our bottom bed is permanently a bed but there's something appealing about being able to easily remove the top bunks to give a bit more head room.

Before you cut any more stuff, PLEASE be sure to check your measurements on the height of those bunk beds.. Looking at you standing there, talking about adults sitting on those bunks, it's hard to imagine when it seems like you're only going to have 18 inches at most between those cross-bars and the ceiling.

  • @TheRestorationCouple

No room for sitting on the bunks, certainly not adults at least! They hang slightly lower than the beans but fine for the little ones. Will show the bunk system in a future video. 👍

Agreed. Took a train across country - there was a fold-out bunk on top. It was so claustrophobic to be sliding yourself in there. I would drop the top bunk 6 inches or so.

Not really, we just use off the shelf hardwood faced ply for most things. If you want veneered ply you are best looking for a local supplier. I know Avon Plywood near us do a range.
