Camper Spring over axle conversion (lift kit)

Ойын-сауық

I installed a Dexter spring over axle conversion (lift kit) to my 2017 Rockwood Freedom Popup camper.
I wanted to add some clearance for when we take family camping trips and make this a little more trail capable.
Install was very easy and straight forward.
The camper netted 6 inches when install was completed.
I took it on a weekend trip with the family up to north Ga. mountains and preformed excellent.

I don’t disagree with you. The instructions on the kit say to do tac welds on it. I called them just to make sure that we should run a full beard on it and they said no just tack weld it.

Haha! Well through some trail riding and long hauls no issues! Also the kit said it was not necessary to tac weld. But yes, to answer your question my welding has gotten better

I watched your video on the tire upgrade as well. Have you had any issues with the wheel spacer/adapters? Thinking about installing spacers to get additional clearance for sidewall for larger tires on my pop up.

No issues at all. Work perfect. These tires have no rubbing. Just after trips do the maintenance to check amd see if the work lose. I have not any come loosen yet.

FYI to anyone watching this video. Those are stabilizer jacks. Not lifting jacks. Funny ever support the entire weight of any camper or training only using those

Yes stabilization jacks for a camper. 5000lb rating each- so 20k rating al around on a max 2k lb camper… I think it will hold. Here a link to the jacks. www.amazon.com/Trailer-Stabilizer-Leveling-Scissor-5000lbs/dp/B084L5JC7M/ref=asc_df_B084L5JC7M/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=642169458874&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10617851058638264337&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9010904&hvtargid=pla-1643783099221&psc=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw9pGjBhB-EiwAa5jl3Br32vwUs2JglUa28z9k1pWwfUj7l4AB66eBAlGibSgZdCXRsMTHChoCn3EQAvD_BwE

Great step by step video for the Dexter kit. I'm looking to do the same lift on my trailer this summer. About how long did the entire process take?

Is there a shock kit for this? I think the leaf spring is just way too bouncy.

Just curious, can you just rotate the axel to where the original perches are on the top instead of the bottom?

No, There is an arch on the axle. The arch helps with the weight of the trailer. Need to keep same arch.

Hi Clint awesome video. I have the same trailer and doing this same lift very soon. You said your put 215-70-15 on it? Do you know if they were 15x5 or 15x6. Were they even close to rubbing?

I am in the process of putting them on. Had to get wheel adapters you make these rims fits. Axel is 5x4.5 bolt pattern.-jeep wills will fit.(example 90s Cherokee’s) They are a 1 inch adapter. The adapters are coming in next week. Once on I will update you. The wheels are bassets 15x7 with 3 inch backspacing. Tried 235/75/15 and they fit but not much room. I wanted a little wheel travel. One thing I will update forsure is shocks. I’ll make a video on wheels and tires

So I have 5 on 4.5 wheels. 15x6 wheels. I’m planning on putting on 205-70-15. Do you think I’ll have clearance issues?

  • @ClintR2

    @ClintR2

    3 жыл бұрын

You should not have any clearance issues at all. Resin for shocks is to help dampen the ride a little bit. Not bouncy at all. We take ours on a fair amount of forest service roads and off-road some and this will help with the load on the springs and make a better ride

I have some tires on rims but have not made the change yet. Honestly so far for the light gravel trails they are preforming great. However with the bigger tires it would do better. I also need to make some blocks for the stabilizers if I go an bigger.

Only about 5000 miles on them. Please run a Subaru rim. I’m just going to get some adapters and put these rims and tires on. Should make a massive difference
