Camino Frances: Samos to Santiago de Compostela (Camino de Santiago) | The Last 100 km

Part 6: Walk with us on the Camino Frances as we leave Samos, walking the last 100 km to Santiago de Compostela. We visit the towns of Hospital de Órbigo, Astorga, Foncebadon, El Acebo, Ponferrada, and Villafranca del Bierzo, and end in Samos with it's historical monastery.
We started our walk on August 7, 2023 in Le Puy-en-Velay. After spending 28 days walking in France, we arrived at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on September 3rd. From there, we continued on the Camino Frances, arriving in Santiago de Compostela on September 29, 2023.

    I walked the Frances this spring after patiently waiting for 21 years...and after only a few weeks back, I started planning the exact journey you just did, Via Podiensis & Frances for my 70th birthday gift to myself in 2026. Thank you so much for putting all your positive energy and smiles into this Camino community and the universe. Your joy and energy were felt through the internet straight into my heart. Looking forward to your next journey. Ultreia y suseia.

    Congrats on an epic journey! Thank you for sharing. I plan to walk the same route next year. I've done the whole del Norte and Frances from Leon. One quick question, did your shoes last the entire trip or you have a pair stashed somewhere along the way? Can you share how you did that?

  • @DaysWeSpend

    Thank you! You'll love it. We didn't have new shoes stashed anywhere but we all agree that we should have replaced them in St-Jean. They're only built to go about 500 miles, which is one Camino Frances (or one Via Podiensis). I've got some details on this in my packing list video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rIBr2LyRk9jbaNI.html

    Love love loved this! Congrats on such an epic 50 days! Be honest, how many times did you guys sing the Proclaimers 500 miles over the course of the walk?😂

  • @DaysWeSpend

    @DaysWeSpend

    Thank you! We didn't sing it too much during the walk, but we sang it NONSTOP during the wedding. It's Hans and Laura's favorite song. So we had the wedding DJ play it twice. At the end where everyone is linking arms and spinning and then running towards Hans and Laura in the middle of the circle.... that's the Proclaimers song. 😍

    Question - on rainy days, when your feet get soaked (or do you have vortex shoes?) is there anything you do to help prevent blisters. I’m doing CF in Sept/Oct.

  • @DaysWeSpend

    @DaysWeSpend

    Our feet (and legs and pants) get soaked. Wearing two pairs of socks (merino wool socks and silk sock liners) helps prevent blisters with wet feet. Ultimately, it's important to dry out your shoes once it stops raining. Trail runners dry fairly quickly, even while walking.

    You guys are doing something extraordinary. Some people work their entire life to do this. And you guys are doing it now. Some people are so arrogant that they hold the living part of life until later as if it’s guaranteed. One of my bosses told me once, hey let’s do this together whether we like it or not, because you and I are going to the same hell. 😂 We will all end up at the same place. Let’s call that the grand meaninglessness. Some will get there with a lot of meaningful meaninglessness; and some with a lot of meaningless meaninglessness. That’s the only difference. 🥃

    Thanks so much, Andy. It’s always a great time for a “bad” idea like walking across a country for a few weeks. So glad you followed our journey. Hope to see you on the trail someday.
