Hike the Camino De Santiago! The English Way

On this adventure, I hike the English Way (The Camino Ingles) from Ferrol to Santiago De Compostella.
I end up taking 4 days to hike the 113 kilometres through the Galician countryside and some pretty villages to arrive in the impressive Santiago.
Join me to get a feel for what the experience of the Camino looks like, and to learn some of its origins which have inspired hundreds of thousands of pilgrims to walk, cycle, ride, wheelchair or sail The Way.

Lovely video. Thanks for posting. It was great to see the Inglés in the sunshine. I walked it in May this year, in five days of torrential, horizontal rain. I loved every minute!

@@patrickdavistravel I was watching the video tonight with Olivia and Michael and when we got to your impressive monologue about St James, I said loudly and proudly "That's my Godchild giving this great account". We all learnt a lot from your Camino Pat. My cousin Anne and John found it a very spiritual pilgrimage and attended the Pilgrims mass in the cathedral and were lucky to see the swinging Urn "Botafumeiro"

Loved watching this Patrick. I’ve walked 4 Caminos thus far (Frances x 2, Del Norte (1st half) plus the Primitio, and this year [2024] the Camino de Madrid). Wasn’t planning on another Camino but who knows, maybe the Ingles??? Lol😅. From another Melburnian!!!!! 🇦🇺

When I went to Compostella I learnt that the name means "field of stars". The word 'stellae' has also always referred to the headstones or tombstones that are placed in cemeteries. Underneath the cathedral it has been discovered that there is a real field of headstones dating back at least to Roman times and that the church was built over this ancient pagan and I suppose early Christian burial place which has its roots in ancient times. This has been partly excavated I believe. The "stellae" or stars are also a reflection of stars above our heads and were laid out on the ground as headstones / stellae.

What you witness there is the marvelous reclaiming of the indigenous culture after colonialism by the Ottomans. It is remarkably generous, not just industrious to foster a spiritual experience by welcoming pilgrims to their communities. The heart of the people... it’s a beautiful thing.

Too much pavement is increasingly becoming a problem on the Camino 😢 as traditionally scenic routes are being changed to get pilgrims into the cities so that shops and hotels can benefit from tourist income.

You can avoid a lot of tarmac if you get off the new official route and follow the original route (the previous official route before they changed it). The old route is clearly marked in the Brierley guide and on various apps.
