CALIBRATE A PH METER (step by step) + How To Use PH meter

I mention using this digital PH meter when fermenting vegetables and homemade vinegar in some of my vegetable fermentation recipe videos. There have been a few comments letting me know that it's calibration is intimidating so I have made this video for you! I clearly demonstrate how to calibrate a PH meter, how to use a digital PH meter and give tips on how to take care of it so it can have a long and accurate life. The goal of this video is to take the intimidation out of calibrating a PH meter.
=================================
➡️HOW TO STORE THE PH SOLUTIONS LONG TERM (re-use in the future):
1. Place each solution in a clean jar and store out of sunlight (i.e. cupboard or pantry).
2. Label the jar with the correct PH value of the solution
3. The solution will keep for about 8 months before a weird slime begins to develop. Maybe this will never happen, maybe it will happen sooner. None the less, this is how I store mine and they last 8-12 months before it's time to dump them.
4. Recalibrate the meter, or check in on it's accuracy using the stored solutions anytime.

    I got the same PH meter and never did get it properly calibrated. This was just excellent. I read the directions several times and never got the message that you showed and explained so well in this video. Thank you most sincerely. I think the company owes you a free meter for doing such an excellent job explaining how to calibrate. The meter is useless if not properly calibrated and their instructions were really lacking. Thank you again. And I waited patiently for this carrot recipe and am so anxious to do it. You are batting a 1000 with me.

    Glad to know it's not just me... I followed this video to the T and got similar results. "Err" I found this video especially informative on the expected malfunctions indicating the unit is bad and should be replaced. I will not be purchasing this super inexpensive model this time around they seem fragile and unreliable. Thanks so much for your time tallant and effort in sharing this fermentation subject with us. It is so essential for correcting the damage done by consuming the foods of the modern western diat. Thank you Adrienna, are a God send.

    Thanks so much for this video. I purchased a meter, took a look at the directions, and said I would do it later. Well, later still hasn't come! Now I know what to do, so I'll get the distilled water and do the calibration. I love your videos...my first ferment was your dill pickles and they have been a huge hit with everyone. The sauerkraut just got finished today and it's amazing. Thanks so much for your clear instructions, insights, and encouragement.

The only mistake I made was to use mason jars for measuring. I went to calibrate and my hand did not fit in the jar to reach the 250 level. . OMG so obviously dumb, but comical. I switched to regular glasses like you show us, and it was fine. You are a brilliant teacher, and very much appreciated.

    What a revelation. Thanks so much for this very useful video. I have had this same PH meter for around 6 months now and have followed the calibration instructions exactly but the instructions don't say to hold the cal button an extra time in the 2nd test or a second time in the 3rd test like you showed. I just re read the instructions again to be sure but it doesn't say it anywhere. I have had ok results using it anyway but have found a need to calibrate a little more often. Now I am going to try and calibrate it your way and see if it works better. Thanks from Sweden!

    Since the glass and knife that you stirred with might cool the liquid down a bit, I would heat the water to a few degrees above 25 (think 27-28 would be a good number) mix the solution, then wait for it to drop to 25 (if needed).

    I recently discovered your channel. It's very helpful! Keep up the wonderful work. Have you already made or will you make videos about lower sodium fermentation? My sodium intake is my only nutrient that is outside of the recommendations. If I were to cut out or down on fermented foods of various kinds (my main source of sodium) I would get to the limit of 2.3g of sodium per day. But I don't want to do that. So lower sodium fermentation would be extremely helpful.

    Another great video. You are a very good teacher! Although I knew how to calibrate and care for the pH meter, I was never quite sure exactly where the immersion point was on this meter. I thought the ridges were just a gripping point. I also didn’t know which replacement buffers to buy. Thanks so much. By the way, if I’m not actively fermenting or using my meter a lot, I make it a point to rinse and recap my meter each day when I feed my sourdough starter. That keeps the bulb damp…very important. This is completely off subject, but I hope you are an Amazon affiliate. With all the work you put into these videos, you should at least be receiving compensation from Amazon for your links. I think it is too crazy. Also, to keep the sensor moist, I used to use tap water to keep the sensor head moist but the seller said"No" ! Hi! You're my favorite resource for lacto-fermentation. Love your videos and I love that you take the time to answer questions. It's my second attempt. I have one jar that had a regular cover and on day 6 (yesterday), I found there was some kham yeast with a few speckles of mold. I removed both with a clean spoon (it was easy, the speckles of mold were not touching the sides) and wiped off the inside with a paper towel as shown. I left the weight in because I didn't have the time to measure the ph nor do a brine flush and wanted to take the ph before flushing to make sure it's worth keeping the pickles. My question is, if we can't clean the ph meter with soapy water, how do we clean it between use to avoid introducing bad bacteria in the next jar we are testing? Thank you.

    So long as the water rinse does a thorough job, it's ok. I've never had a problem with contamination with thorough rinsing. PS: just want to make sure about this... never brine flush mid-fermentation. If you choose to do so, always do it at the very end, just before placing in the refrigerator. Good job with the quick swipe for mold removal... no need to remove the weight or PH check every time👍😊

I have only 3 of them and want to have them available when I will try something else. 🙂Thank you again🙏
