@@drk.i.a.2969 Larry bird didn't win a ring in college either yet he won three nba titles. Meanwhile Patrick Ewing has a ring from college but none in the pros. So what's your point? Also while you're not wrong about systems winning championships, you're missing a key element here. Players have to fit that system in order for it to work. Take the Los Angeles Lakers for instance when they acquired both Gary Payton and Karl Malone to compliment both Kobe and Shaquille. You'd think they'd be unbeatable right? Nope. Both Gary and Karl struggled in that system because they weren't a good fit for the triangle offense you're referring to. Yes, it's the coach's job to implement a system but it's also their job to cater a system to the players strengths. Not to their weaknesses.

@@thewolfofwallstreet627lmao Malone and Payton was on their way to retirement, had nothing to do with the triangle offense. Fact is Caitlin had a bad game, it’s not the coaches fault. She was 5-15 from the field 4-11 being from the 3 point line, played bad defense and often looked lost on the court. It’s ok to be a fan but Jesus Christ be objective. She played exactly like the coach warned us about and fans asked for her resignation, as good as Caitlin Clark is she too has weakness that need to be fixed to turn her into the player that y’all believe her to be. Nothing changed in Caitlin’s game, she played exactly like she did when she was in Iowa it just simply didn’t work. This ain’t college basketball it’s the “pros”. There will be a serious adjustment period, until she adjust then these kind of games will continue to happen.

Dropping passes from a college kid is down right embarrassing. Sides must have been joking when she told caitlin that she doesn't have to do everything. She clearly does. The fever is going to win games when caitlin starts shooting exclusively long 3s which the slow vets won't be able to do anything about. Sides was a moron to be saying caitlin needs to shoot more 2s. Rookies in the wnba go straight from college to a pro season, they have had no time to workout and prepare. They should be shooting long shots, not trying to run through old slow players with 100lbs on them. Men get 7 months between draft and the season. Women get 4 weeks. It is ridiculous.

Carrington fouled CC 5 times that if I was the ref would have gotten called. I am a retired Bball official and coach. Take away the 10 turnovers by CC, they still lose because if you get 50% of those non turnovers into that offense you are still only coming up with about 10-15 points, which is still not enough to beat Connecticut because the rest of the Fever, which are not rookies sucked even worse. I mean the next best player had 7 points less than CC. Boston had 4 damn points. Pathetic and the Fever players are more out of shape than CC. Its because the coach is forcing them into an offense where she says go for the long 2s. That comment Coach Sides made and the way she put CC under the bus publicly should get her fired.

Boston in three games can’t figure out the pick and roll. Sides is having Boston high post and cutting too far from the basket for the pick and roll to work. She needs to get the ball deeper since she has no jump shot and weak ball handling skills. Clark drives and nobody’s cutting. I think the back up center is playing better than Boston. Smith is the only player who understands the pick and roll.

I feel like all a team needs to do is draft a whole team based on speed. Draft sprinters from track teams and teach them basketball, it would be an improvement. WNBA is way way too slow and it likely got that way due to this theme of "women are here to support their families with 20 year careers". You keep hearing this kind of crap from multiple WNBA players. It is so bad, they already have rookies repeating this jobber crap. This league ruins young good players to favor long careers for mediocre players. I would sum it up with one word "entitlement". Too many entitled vets and coaches in the WNBA coupled with a draft system that gives college players 1 month before the season starts. Men get 7 months. It is really easy to cut all your draftees when a 150lbs college player needs a year of weight training to be able to muscle up against 240lbs mediocre 40 year olds. Technically the older player is immediately better, but they are not super stars. Superstars get cut and never get a chance for not adding a bunch of muscle within 4 weeks.

She made 5 x 3 pointers on 36% shooting while her senior year in college she made 5.15/game on 37%. She was manhandled by Carrington and Harris in the backcourt who combined for 36 points on a combined 27.7% usage rate. She has major holes in her defense, she does not move well off the ball, she still has the issue she had in college with ball security, and as a point guard I'm sorry if Boston does no get touches on half your trips down the court you are just a bad point guard and shouldn't be running the offense. Go play the 2 guard. Caitlin is by far the biggest factor in the Fever being blown out by 21 points. Slather on as much lipstick as you want that was just flat a pig of a game. I am not a Caitlin hater, I think she has a great deal of talent and I lover her work ethic. She has the no fear guts of a burglar that could allow her to really become one of the greats. New to watching this league. Can someone explain the reason for the insane schedule? No preseason, training camp, then no recovery or practice time between games. The media and league asked us to check them out and raved about the rookie class. Then the league sets a schedule that makes it stupid hard for teams to gel and teach these rookie "sensations" they brag about.🤔 I've watched 5 games so far and the officiating is awful.

Boston should play herself into shape over these first ten games. With that she will start processing quicker on offense. She’s going to continue hurting the team on offense until she gets back into shape. I’d continue starting her for confidence; however, I would pull her during the first 5 minute timeout in every game. Let her rest until the 2nd quarter. Same in 3rd quarter, pull her at 5 minutes. After that rest, use her as much as the game situation warrants. Maybe she’ll be back to herself after the Olympics break.

The coach put this team in this position on how she wants the team to play. Caitlin showed up, where were the OTHER PLAYERS? The coach is trying to salvage her job. She needs to be replaced because she is not up to the task to coach players as a Head Coach. When is it a smart decision to have to Point Guards playing at the same time? There were possessions where Clark didn't even touch the ball. That reflects how she wants this team to play which is downplaying Clark's ability to help this team.

I do not think AB is in basketball shape. Not only was she struggling to get to her spots, she did not realize where she was supposed to be. CC waited a couple of plays for AB to get to a spot and she never got there. I could see this team being a secondary break team. When the fast break fails hit the spot up 3's.

I think your take on Coach Sides use of the word "we" is overstated. She is using "we" to avoid using "I" or "Me". She should have been saying, "I need to make sure we're coming back to the ball". "I have to get players on the floor that can execute our game plan". Big difference.

  • @micdewitt

it's a lot of better than just saying "the players aren't coming back to the ball", which some of the blame does fall on them she doesn't have a controller in her hand. She can say it, but they haven't had a practice between games to really instill it. At some point, things like "box out your man" or "come back to the ball" you have to take accountability for actually doing or not, the excution part. When a player gets punked and she says "we have to have some fight back", you can't say "I", or "I" need to do a better job of holding on to the ball. That would be weird. You also can't say "Aliyah Boston has to toughen up, Jonquel punked her out there" so it has to be "we"

Andraya from ESPN put another perspective on this game. Connecticut was a title contender. They're known for their defense. You can't walk into their yard and expect them to roll over. On Gil's Arena he commented that last month Caitlin was playing in college. NBA draftees get 6 - 7 months before training camp. That gives them time to get their bodies in shape for the league. Perhaps the fans are expecting too much from Caitlin right now.

I didn't get why Clark was assigned to bring the ball up court after a made basket. Every time Connecticut would double on her as she crossed the half court line. On defensive rebounds is when Clark should get the ball so the opponent cannot get set on defense. With the 24 second clock it leave very little time to run a set play when you burn 10 seconds before you reach the top of the key. After defensive rebounds the post and forwards need to sprint down and try to beat the opponent down court. Only N. Smith has shown the ability to run down the court.

Pop had a hard time planning plays for Wembley and he, Wembley, wasn't able to perform since plays were not set to take advantage of him. I believe Sides has the same issue with a player she is not able to or willing to setup plays for. Additionally, it took a while for Caitlin Clark's teammates to catch-up to her in Iowa. It would take almost 2 years for Iowa to form that winning team.

I can't believe Caitlin Clark had 10 turnovers. That is totally unacceptable.

One thing is, you can see AB behind the defender in the post, and literally just standing there, not trying to establish position. She almost looks disinterested. The only way this Fever team can maximize what they do have is play together, more off the ball movement, etc… JP
