"In History" is tough, which is why I hate all the "who's the GOAT" talk about the NBA. There isn't just one greatest player "in history". But right now, Caitlin is the GOAT and so much fun to watch. I've been telling all my male hoops friends about her and it's gone from "who?" a few years ago to "did you see the game last night?" I don't understand all the hate (for Caitlin and women's hoops and sports in general).

Caitlin has to be double and triple teamed to shut her down. Her passing is superb, but she has to have team mates to pass to. The Fever doesn't run the court like the Hawkeyes did, its time they kick it up. She's a force and it will all pan out over time. Lisa Bluder was an amazing coach and she helped groom and develop Caitlin's skills. Hopefully Sides doesn't squander Caitlin's skills and helps her adjust to WNBA playing.

It's OK if Serena Williams loses 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 if we've seen her play some astonishing tennis. When you asked who we would think of when we think of great women basketball players, you missed one: Ann Meyers. To quote Wikipedia: " She was also the first woman to sign a contract with a National Basketball Association team, the 1979 Indiana Pacers, for $50,000. None of the women you mentioned were ever considered to be drafted by an NBA team." Maybe I am dating my self, but she is the best I have watched. Another name that came to mind was Carol Blazejowski, or Blaze for short. Again from Wikipedia: Blaze "was a three-time All-American, from 1976 through 1978. Blazejowski won the inaugural Wade Trophy as the nation's finest collegiate woman player in 1978. She led the nation in scoring with 33.5 points per game in 1976/77 and 38.6 points per game in 1977/78. Blazejowski scored 40 or more points in each of her last three games, including the semifinal loss to eventual champion UCLA. Sports Illustrated would call Blazejowski, "the most relentlessly exciting performer in the history of women's basketball". She set a Madison Square Garden record for either sex with 52 points in a 1977 game". And those points per game were, like Pistol Pete's, done without a 3-point line. A walk down memory lane.

I am not an Iowa fan, despite living 20 miles from the university. I never watched a woman's game until the 2023 finals. I may not even be a Caitlin Clark fan- the jury is out. But, this woman is the Joe Namath of women's professional basketball. Namath changed the game, and is the reason NFL players started making a living playing football. Caitlin is the reason WNBA players will start earning money. Will others help? Of course! But they are not Caitlin Clark. TAKE NOTE- I AM THE STILL SMALL VOICE SAYING SHE WILL CHANGE THE GAME THE WAY NAMATH CHANGED THE GAME. So, yeah, I have a WNBA season pass. Because of Caitlin Clark. A BIG PLUS- since This is the real beginning of the WNBA, you don't get as many commercials as you get basketball. Pretty cool! OVERRATED?!?!?! That is exactly what many (the haters) are saying about her, I think they are expecting her to drop 40 every night in the league. Caitlin herself has said she is going to struggle a bit but she will also work harder to improve. That is what the great ones do, they keep quiet and work. MJ did not average 30 ppg until his 3rd season in the league his 1st year he averaged 28.2 and his injury year of 85-86 he averaged 22.7, so based on the logic of these folks he was also overrated as well. We all saw what he accomplished in his career. This is because he worked on his game constantly to improve, same with Kobe, LeBron, KD, Steph, Shaq and many others. Just because she isn't shooting lights out at the moment and is having turnovers is probably because she has been playing non stop since last fall and that can be exhausting for anyone if you ask me, she hasn't had any real time to recharge her batteries, plus the pace is much faster and she knew this coming in, she also knew that there was going to be struggles for her, and she will deal with them with the same grace and maturity that she has all along due to her upbringing.

Caitlin is as good as any female basketball player ever. The idea that she turned people on to any women's sport is ridiculous and keeps being repeated by talk (news) hosts, former players, current players, league officials and any idiot with a podcast is insulting to the American and global sports fans is insulting. It's 2024 NOT 1972. The WNBA has done nothing but create an insular, whiney, sloppy pretend Professional league that has convinced themselves they're trailblazers and those who don't dig "their style" of ball are sexist or "new fans". The WNBA has squandered tons of talented players...made no effort to develop, played so poorly and slow that an intramural jr college team could switch unis and no one would notice. Women's tennis, soccer, softball and especially volleyball have rabid fans.... almost every person in the US was a female player or has a spouse, mother, daughter, niece, friend, sister or neighbor. Caitlin brought fans because of her unique skills, intelligence , attitude, toughness and likeable nature. Too MANY Fans To ignore. Mia Hamm, Peaches James, Mary Lou Reton, Peggy Fleming, Venus and Serena AND you blew 25 plus years until you got caught. WNBA is hot because fans and the NCAA got. NOW

I don't think she would have this attention had she not chose Iowa, and went to a big name program, in a bigger state, instead. The loyal Iowa fanbase elevated her popularity. She wouldn't have developed, or received the freedom to shoot how she does, at another program.

Taurasi was pretty much wide open for each of the 3 pointers that she scored last night. I've been watching the W since 1997, and I've NEVER SEEN ANYONE guarded as closely as Caitlin has been guarded during the 2 preseason games and last night's game. And yet, she scored 20 points. Caitlin needs some time to adjust to her teammates and to the overall defensive expertise in the W. This is an adjustment that ALL rookies need to make. HOW MANY TIMES HAS A ROOKIE STARTED AS POINT GUARD, IN THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON, IN THE WNBA? My best guess is NEVER!!!! After less than two weeks of practice with an ENTIRELY NEW TEAM, coach, and league (with NO REST following the NCAA Tournament), a player scores 20 points (team high) and commits 10 turnovers while being VERY closely guarded. This is hardly a flop. It simply indicates that Caitlin needs more practice with her team so that she can better anticipate their moves (and her teammates need more practice with CC so they will be ready to catch her passes). The fact is, Caitlin can "see" where her teammates will be before they get there (her Iowa coach and all of the WBB TV commentators who know her game have stated this). She correctly calculates time, distance, and angles subconsciously prior to her passes and releases the ball to go to the location her teammates will be at when it arrives. To be honest, some of the turnovers were due to the fact that her teammates failed to look for her passes. It will just take a little more time, and there will be considerable improvement. Her passing, when she has sufficient practice with her teammates, is even more impressive than her logo shots.
