Buck was one of my favorite character in this movie. Kinda like 2005 King Kong: A lone ape who lacks social relationship and is the prisoner of his own loneliness... until he eventually gets the freedom in unexpected way and becomes a loyal friend.

I was sad to see him die. Also because Caesar set him free, he respected Cesar and was willing to die for him

I wonder how smart Buck already was before he evolved because when he was freed, he looked at Caesar like, “Thanks, man.” And then when Rocket tried to attack Caesar, Buck looked at him like, “That’s my bro, you mess with him, you mess with me.”

Caesar was always thinking...he noticed earlier that Rocket was scared of Buck, when he walked by his cage. So his plan here is in two phases: 1) Make friends with the big boy, then 2) Supplant the Alpha chimp....but first he gains a measure of revenge by sucker-clocking Rocket with the gas can (the same gas can Rocket had bullied him with)...Rocket soon realizes that this combination of brains and brawn is pretty much unbeatable....and just like that, there's a new Sheriff in town

I like to think that Buck was smart enough to escape from the zoo so when they saw this, they deemed him to dangerous for people and so they put him here never to be let out again until now...

@TheGreaterGood80 Caesar wasn't challenging Buck though....as soon as Buck felt threatened and beat his chest, Caesar looked down and away...that was a supplication gesture of his own, basically saying "I'm not here to fight or invade your space"

Very true.Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Buck had made it to the second movie; I think that thanks to his size, strength, courage, loyalty and intelligence, Buck would become the undisputed leader of the gorillas. And with Luca as his second in command, the gorillas would be a disciplined, unified and well-drilled fighting force. Perhaps even winter would have found a proper place in the gorilla guard, since Buck would have made sure to drill winter in combat, tracking and leadership more fiercely than the other gorillas. Perhaps he'd also have winter cover his white fur with mud when hunting in the woods or send him for hunting/scouting at the snowy mountain peaks where his white fur would provide an excellent camouflage. Buck would be a well-liked and very respected member of the ape society. 4th in command and in Caesar's inner circle like Koba, Rocket and Maurice. Perhaps he too would have find himself a mate or more (silverback gorillas form harems of females whose loyalty and respect they have earned due to their merit and capacity to provide food and protection) and father some children. Buck would also be one of Caesar's strongest supporters and most trusted/capable lieutenants. Even Koba would have to take him seriously. Sadly, that's exactly why I think Buck wouldn't be imprisoned for his loyalty to Caesar like Maurice and Rocket had been. Koba would probably execute him since he'd be too strong to be contained. But what do you think on the matter 🙂

The fact that rocket will forever stay loyal to Caeser cause he knows that Caeser is a whole different ape when he gets pissed. Also Caeser is like a bro to him too.

Small detail most people might overlook, buck bas been in there so long there is dust and rust coming from his cage and he frightened at first to touch the fake grass put his enclosure

@@vanmoody it might be that he is scared to touch it but that initial touch then going back into his cage is a reflex from caged animals testing to see if there is a barrier. Then buck sees that the other side is the same as in the cage only much bigger he rushes out! A truly great scene

The thing I love the most about this scene is the epic music that plays when Buck runs out and plays while Caesar lets him enjoy himself.

Yes but no. The whole point of the trilogy but this movie specifically is Cesar gaining freedom for apes. Buck was just a gorilla who had none even less than Cesar and the other apes at the facility. So Cesar freed him just because it was right but then he used buck to force rocket into submission, but not cuz rocket was scared or buck but because buck is a gorilla therefore four times the strength of rocket himself. So if he’s not willing to die to buck and buck is saying bow to Cesar then that’s his only choice. The gas can represents bonds. Rocket beat Cesar with that same can in the beginning for the movie but now Cesar uses it to gain a subordinate follower from the same ape who beat him wit it. Not be over analytical but I take good(GOOOD) movies seriously lol

Yes. Out of the 4 great apes (gorilla, orangutan, chimpanzee and bonobo) chimpanzees are the most popular. They're smaller and require less food than gorillas and orangutans. Their close relation to humans makes them more suited lab subjects for testing medicine. Finally their so similar to humans behaviour makes them very interesting to the people of the West

what's interesting in this isn't just how Ceaser made friends with Buck and Rocket, or how he showed his craftiness to set all this up it's the moment when Rocket surrenders and submits to Ceaser and gives the hand gesture All Ceaser's life he's given and submitted to Will and while they never had a bad relationship and Ceaser DID see Will as his father, this moment, CEASER is the one who is being given authority and control and he's never abused that, all the apes who submitted to him he always treated right, but this is the moment when Ceaser got to finally experience what it was like to have control and be in charge of his own destiny and of others

He wouldn't even need a spear. His bare hands and jaws would do the job. Sadly, they wouldn't be enough to save Buck from Koba 's gun. Because I don't think that koba would have imprison Buck for his loyalty to Caesar like he did with Maurice and rocket. Buck would be executed since he would be too strong to be contained

I agree. It would be Buck at his greatest. Thanks to his size, strength, courage, loyalty and intelligence he'd be the undisputed leader of the gorilla population in the ape community. And with Luca as his second in command the gorillas would be a well organized and well-drilled fighting force. Perhaps under buck's tutelage even winter would be able to blend in with the fellow gorillas and follow in his father's footsteps of becoming a renowned warrior. Seeing such noble dreams and after living himself isolation and rejection Buck would probably take an interest/liking in winter and he'd drill him in combat, tracking and leadership more fiercely than the other gorillas. Perhaps Buck would even advise winter to cover his white fur with mud when hunting in the woods or send him hunting and tracking in the snowy mountain peaks where his white fur would provide excellent camouflage. Due to his accomplishments and character Buck would be a well-liked and very respected member of the ape society. The reason Buck was so happy was because he was only 19, which makes him like a teenager in human years so he was probably locked up for most of his life which is why he respected Caesar and sacrificed himself for him.

The average lifespan of a gorilla is 35-40 years. So buck has probably spent almost half his life in captivity

The real leader of this pack was buck when rocket was the “leader” buck was caged and by the looks of it caged his whole life he would’ve wiped out all the apes if he was allowed to come out of the cage and interact with the other apes. He could’ve wiped out Caesar but Caesar gave buck freedom and dat meant everything to him so he let Caesar lead because in his eyes he earned it by freeing him and the other apes. Buck died too soon shame

Buck was too big and strong to be controlled. They probably thought that he wouldn't fit in with the energetic and aggressive chimpanzees without getting in fights. And I wouldn't be surprised if the abusive caretaker, Dodge, had tried to pick up on Buck, only for the latter to snap at him. So, Dodge, being the coward that he was, ran to his daddy and told him that Buck is "a mad beast too dangerous to be left unchecked".

So Buck was basically a super mutant, imagine if he was alive throughout the whole trilogy it would’ve been like having Kratos as a ally

@@vininakmuay5577 Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Buck had made it to the second movie. I think that thanks to his size, strength, courage, loyalty and intelligence, Buck would become the undisputed leader of the gorillas. And with Luca as his second in command, the gorillas would be a disciplined, unified and well-drilled fighting force. Perhaps even winter would have found a proper place in the gorilla guard, since Buck would have made sure to drill him in combat, tracking and leadership more fiercely than the other gorillas (buck knows what it means to be ostracized and he wouldn't have liked for a fellow comrade to go through that kind of pain). Perhaps buck would also have winter cover his white fur with mud when hunting in the woods or send him for hunting/scouting at the snowy mountain peaks where his white fur would provide an excellent camouflage. Buck would certainly be a well-liked and very respected member of the ape society. 4th in command and in Caesar's inner circle like Koba, Rocket and Maurice. Perhaps he too would have find himself a mate or more (silverback gorillas form harems of females whose loyalty and respect they have earned due to their merit and capacity to provide food and protection) and father some children. Buck would also be one of Caesar's strongest supporters and most trusted/capable lieutenants. Even Koba would have to take him seriously. Sadly, that's exactly why I think Buck wouldn't be imprisoned for his loyalty to Caesar like Maurice and Rocket had been. Koba would probably execute him since he'd be too strong to be contained. But what do you think on the matter 🙂

An average gorilla lives for around 35 to 40 years. Buck is 19 in this movie, and in the next film in this series, Dawn, it is set 10 years after the Simian Flu outbreak began in 2016, and that film is set in 2026, Buck would be 29 if he didn't die at the end of the first film, probably still has some strength in him to fight, though may be starting to lose some energy and strength to fight. In the latest film in the series, War, it is set two years after Caesar killed Koba when he ignited War between apes and humans in 2026, Buck would be 31 years old, and entering the later years of his life, and his strength may start to deteriorate, and is probably getting too old to fight by then.

@@jackybeck2479 he'd probably stay behind then. Certainly he'd still command respect from his peers for his feats in battle and Luca would be fiercely loyal to him. But yeah. Perhaps by then buck's fighting days would be over. At least greatly reduced
