Cable Attachments: The Best, Worst, and Weirdest Ones You Can Buy

My cable tower is one of my favorite pieces of home gym equipment (specifically the weight stack tower) so I have no shortage of attachments. I thought it might be helpful to break down some of my favorites and least favorites.
Below are the links to everything mentioned in the video (in order) so you can easily find this stuff for yourself!

Attachments I love
V Bar: amzn.to/3KK6nnY
Single D Handles: amzn.to/3RqPy5c
Tricep Pushdown Bar: amzn.to/3Xis5Hb
Rope: amzn.to/3VGZJVJ
Neutral Grip Lat Bar Set of 5: amzn.to/3Xm3Ac0
Single Neutral Handles (like Prime): amzn.to/4b1ZCsg
Ergo Grip: amzn.to/4ekPFZU

Attachments I do not love
(I don't necessarily recommend buying these but might as well link them)
Dual Swivel Bar: amzn.to/4chd4tm
Straight Bar: amzn.to/3VmeNa8
Talon Grips: amzn.to/4cjWitx
"Pro Style" Lat Bar: amzn.to/3z1dqGh

    The d handle (metal ones) are horrible. I never use them. The standard d handle with rope/strap is great. I know you say it rubs against the hand, but it moves up and down the strap so you can make it comfortable. Good content 👌

    ive been using the MAG attachments for about 2 years now and i love them for the reasons you said and when i tried the normal lat pull down bar it feels weird and i don't get as good of a contraction from it . ive also been using a rope with a loop at each end for seated cable rows so i can turn my writs in a little bit and a strap that seems to work really good for lat pull throughs so i can hit my rear delts , tris and lats in 1 movement

    8:40 I also bought these awhile back I originally did not like them as much because the sweatier I got the more they slipped from my grip. However now I workout at home and think that maybe if I had some chalk it would fix that issue. They need to be a more matte rubber or have some kind of verticle cuts or something in it to improve them I instead switched to using ankle straps, but u need a specific thick kind that can cradle ur wrist area

    Spud Inc has a triceps strap. It's quite amazing. I own REP's version of the similar item but Spud Inc's material is much more malleable and smoother to use. The irony is that strap came with the Spud Inc Pulley system and I never thought I would be using it since REP seems sturdier and of higher quality. Now it's the other way around: I only use the Spud Inc one haha. I'm still looking for some cone grips to explode my triceps as the ribbed version displayed in this video seems like it could slip (just like you mentioned).

    Purchased my Bells Cable tower (should be arriving tomorrow) after watching a few of your videos + other creators to see how creative some people have gotten with the attachments. Do you feel that having just one tower would be nearly as good of an experience? I see many more people showing it as a 2 tower setup. I have the space for 2 so maybe will eventually go that route.

    Hey Matthew, enjoy the videos, I’m starting to make my own garage gym and space is very limited as well as my height, I have been leaning toward dual BOS cable towers with weight stack but I noticed how you praised Vendetta’s jammer arm attachment, do you think it’s worth just waiting to see if a company comes out with a 3”x3” that works for my space or you still feel BOS is a good option? Thanks for the input.

  • @MattRosenman

    @MattRosenman

    17 күн бұрын

    I do love Vendetta's adapters, but they're not going to work with a cable tower because it's a trolley system and you won't be able to adjust both the cables and the trolley on the same upright. Depending on your budget, you could go with 2 BoS towers and then buy their Manticore or Hydra uprights to attach to the back to basically turn it into a full rack on the back side. The Manticore is 3x3 with 1" holes and the Hydra is 3x3 with 5/8" holes and both come in a 72" or 84" height, so you can attach those right to the back to then use 3x3 lever arms if you wanted to go that route to save space. You'd definitely need to look into bolting down or finding a way to make sure everything is sturdy and safe, but it's an option!

    Nice video Matt. One thing I'll say on the straight functional trainer bar that might be helpful is I have seen people use independent squat stands to set their desired starting point for things like squats and bench press, but it'll be easier to do that with a plate-loaded setup since you can rack the bar and then add the weight; just a thought though. Keep up the good work!

  • @MattRosenman

    @MattRosenman

    17 күн бұрын

    Totally. With the BoS tower you can add attachments, so you can theoretically add J-cups and rack the bar which would help. The major downside there (aside from it only working with a plate-loaded tower and not the weight stack) is that you can't really step back away from the uprights, so the J-cups would interfere with the movement.

    What length would you go for for the neutral grip lat pulldown attachemnt? I see an option on amazon for one but it lists different lengths, 19", 22" and 28". Is there a standard length for them that fit the average users needs?

  • @MattRosenman

    @MattRosenman

    17 күн бұрын

    Average is tough to say because we obviously have different wingspans, but the most common wide grip option you'll see for the neutral grip bars is around 33". That wide grip is my favorite and isn't extremely wide. I'd take a tape measure to get a feel for the length and then mimic that width to see how it feels. If it seems way too wide for you, you can go one step down, but the 19 or 22 inch options you mentioned would be narrower than a "standard" grip

    Bells of Steel just released new attachments like the ones that come with their towers, but with aluminum handles. The knurling isn’t amazing but I like them vs the generic steel d-handles because you can adjust the length for different exercises and since they’re light weight I can just drop them at the end of a set without worrying about them smashing into the column and causing cosmetic damage or making too much of a racket.

  • @MattRosenman

    @MattRosenman

    17 күн бұрын

    Definitely an improvement! I don't see a ton of value in having the different length options since you can adjust the starting position of your cables on the tower itself, but I guess it might be useful for something like flies. Either way, definitely an improvement over the awful cloth handles, that's for sure.

    I also prefer off-brand for accessories but the one cable accessory I couldn't find that option for and kept seeing great reviews were the TrakHandle Sport handles. Not cheap, even on sale I paid $90. I really just wanted to try them to see what the hype was about and then return them, but nope, they felt too good not to keep. I've got the Ares 2.0 arriving in two months and I'm sure REP will have some nice handles for it by I'll be swapping them out for my TrakHandle. 💪

    It seems to be socially acceptable in the home gym community to buy knock off MAG Grips, while every thing else there is endless debate about US made vs China imported. MAG grips are just better in a number of ways. Yes they cost a little more but it’s worth it to support American ingenuity. Plus you don’t need 5 different varieties, a couple is plenty.

    I certainly don't blame anyone who going with the real thing and I have no doubts that they are superior. I tend to gravitate towards cheaper options if they are comparable in most aspects of life. Like I have a much cheaper brand video doorbell instead of a Ring because I don't feel the need to spend an arm and a leg, but the one I have has clear issues and is an inferior product. But, it saved me a lot of money, so I don't mind the slight downgrade. I feel the same way with certain gym equipment like the MAG grips. I have no doubt that the real thing is higher quality, more consistent (the holes on mine are a bit misaligned), and overall a better product. But as someone who would not have spent the money on MAG grips in the first place, I love having a cheaper alternative. Home gyms require balance if you want to save money IMO. I wouldn't want to go with all knockoffs as I love supporting small businesses when I can (like the Vendetta adapters I have a video on) but paying a premium for every accessory is unrealistic for a lot of people, so it's great to have options. And to be clear, I do completely agree with you: you definitely don't need all 5 attachments. I tend to stick with the wide grip and the close grip, and the ones in between are used significantly less often.
