His condition should be called antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). This is someone who goes against society, rules, and other behaviors that are more commonly held. His inability to know right from wrong, lack of empathy with owners or the cats themselves, manipulating owners, hurting the cats, all of that are signs of psychopathy as a severe type of ASPD. They also tend to lie a lot, having problems repeatedly with the law, being arrogant, have a superficial charm about themselves, and are abusive. He likely had manifestations of this since a teenager, his parents may have also been abusive or neglectful, and no meds will cure him of this.

He was in his 30s and it's highly unlikely those 10 were his first. He's likely been doing it for years, so long the strays in his immediate area have been wiped out so many times they know to avoid it like death. Hence why he went to great lengths to get pet cats.

This breaks my heart. I had an older friend whose cat had been killed by someone, and even though it happened about 20 years earlier, she still cried for her little fur- baby when talking about him. Anyone who would harm a small, defenseless creature deserves WORSE than 8 years.
