When I was 6 years old, I spent the night at my friend's house and I remember playing a bootleg Mario game. It was fun enough, and I never got the name, but I remember the music. I even made up lyrics set to the 'Pizza Hut, Making it Great' commercial. For 30+ years I've kept the jingle in my head, but never thought I'd find the game again, until today I randomly got here via the algorithm. Thank you!

And, I realize the C64 went from 82-92 with slight updates within that time, but, once you have a viable gaming console, you stick with it until the next big thing(and usually bigger thing than what you have). The game was released a short time but was taken from the shops. Nintendo wasn`t really amused about Giana Sisters and contacted Rainbow Arts. The company behind this game. It seems that Rainbow Arts gets nervous after Nintendo contact them and moved the game itself from the market.

Seem familiar, but Giana Sisters is more fun i think. It is easier and boss music is just great. In mario you can go down the pipes and when you fall in to a hole you die. Giana sisters you fall in to a hole you find a new world full of gems. Whoever made Mario never made it for C64 and other platforms then nintendo so this was a legal rip off, and there is also Amiga version and Atari. Anyways back then no one cared about Mario people were playing Giana Sisters and i thik it was a valuable lesson for leaving out computer based platforms.

On the 1st place was "Marcus" with 990000 points (hell, I even remember the name), the 2nd had about 270000 (or so) which is impossible to reach. Here you can see all levels are done and it is even less than 75k points. Is there a way to get these many points?

It was possible to jump over the pit (entry to level 33) in stage 32 and afterwards some enemies appeared but then only dead end and it was impossible to backtrack so I got killed by timer. Music is still a killer, specially in boss levels. You complete every 4th stage too quickly to listen them :) Btw. Nice job avoiding fires even when you had the rain drop. It is also a great way to avoid cheater-comments :)

@Devoguy It seems that Nintendo never sues Rainbow Arts (the company behind Giana Sisters) But Nintendo wasn`t very happy with Giana Sisters and let Rainbow Arts know that. No one really knows what happened behind the scenes but Giana Sisters retract all copies from the stores. But the game was very popular `cause black copys.

Scott Breon Might be true, but we are talking about specific games and in this case, SMB has better sound overall. And way more fluid gameplay. ( Mind you, I started out with a NES and I still have a complete C=64/II set. : > )

I actually think this is pretty cool, kinda reminds me of a hybrid between Super Mario Bros. and Mystery Quest on the NES (if any of the other four people who played that game are reading this). Sucks that it had blatantly rip off so many details from Mario, it could have been great if they took a bit more time to come up with more original concepts.

1300l It's not competition if it literally stole the concept, level design, art direction, and miscellaneous assets. If anything it's an attempt to follow up the original game with similar but improved game, which is what mario 3 is.
