Where does the money go exactly from all those tariffs they think they're going to collect? I'm sick of the protectionist propaganda narrative. Their motive is to block BYD inexpensive EVs which would proliferate rapidly cutting massive amounts of gasoline consumption and also line their pockets with the tarrif money. Also with the reduced competition they can keep the prices high on EVs.

So in the UK we have quite strict weight limits and this thing is going to blow out those limits I think. Also I note with plug in hybrids they can be ineficient when out of battery as these are big cars with poor aerodynamics, that engine will be working its heart out without the electric. It sort of meets some of the need but feels like a half way house that is neither fish nor fowl. Maybe a pint size and smoothed off Tesla one day 😂

This Ute seems decent, but if it can't tow an average boat or caravan, it might deter many buyers. Random, but do you happen to know if Chinese cars, or other brands for that matter, offer remote control capabilities for suppliers? I recall instances in Australia where certain technologies like HTC phones and Wi-Fi-enabled solar panels were banned due to concerns about potential access by the Chinese government.

I don't think the media are alone in condemning less-than-3.5 tonnes "towing" ability. A lot of buyers want bragging rights and nobody wants to admit that _theirs_ isn't as big as their mates'. That said, it will be more than capable of the school and supermarket run. I'm sure women love lifting their shopping high into a ute tray (after balancing on a plastic side step to belt in their screaming child through a minute door opening), and then climbing in afterwards to rescue the groceries that have fallen out of the bags. Caravanning is enjoyed by some - not the drivers of _real_ cars whose progress is reduced to a crawl when they're behind the lumbering behemoth that's struggling to tow a too-large van along a narrow coast road or up a mountain.

3+ ton towing with a ute is a joke anyway. It's just a marketing number. If you ever actually try towing 3+ tons behind a ute you will quickly realise the mistake you've made. You can't even take any cargo and barely passengers when you tow that much because of your GVM limit. This race to the top on towing capacity is incredibly dangerous because it leads buyers into a false sense of security.

Hybrid cars, just like petrol cars, will be totally pointless, obsolete and worthless by the end of the decade. Even a EV ute with ordinary load capacity will be sufficient for most consumers. As for those who genuinely need to tow heavier loads more capable EV utes will eventually be released to the market. Even the first generation Ford F-150 Lightning EV ute can tow 4.5 tonnes over 209km.

Starting price for $53K equivalent for a midsize is honestly a lot higher than I expected. I expected something in the $35K or at most mid $40K range (starting price of a Tacoma hybrid). Remember in Mexico a base Hilux starts at $20K equivalent so BYD is twice as much Yet its towing and payload a lot less, no solid axle means it is never gonna be as off-road capable. It uses e-CVT rather than traditional torque converter automatic. Its 30kwh or so battery is stored not in the interior like the Wrangler 4XE or TNGA-F product but outside underneath the cab. So repairing and replacing on that battery will take longer and cost more money. Some of the biggest problem of the BYD DMO platform. This is not the game change that some people hyped up to be

As soon as Chinese EVs become in 2025 or 2026, the petrol ute market will totally collapse in Australia as consumers, small businesses, companies and governments alike all want to be rid of expensive petrol cars as soon as possible. Ironically, it will be the more politically conservative consumers, those who have been sceptical or even hostile towards EVs, who will flock to EV utes due to the sheer efficiencies and costs savings.

WHY is it so hard to find out the drive train on this thing? Is it a series hybrid or parallel hybrid. At least it its series hybrid, it will feel the same to drive on either electric or petrol. • @mikahoIic

the powertrain is pretty much similar to its cousin leopard 5. So it has both series and parallel hybrid. The benefit is, it will have very good fuel efficiency in city compared to series hybrid. The ford ranger phev is more likely to be a series hybrid with relatively short ev range (maybe less than 50km), where as byd's phev usually has longer ev range (this one has ~100km).

The wrong prediction is based on that is a pickup truck version of Formula Leopard 5, but it is not. People say this truck product was abandoned by Formula Leopard, so it is published by BYD ocean group. So it is totally different than the Formula leopard 5. In this case I won't buy it since it lags at least one to two generations behind BYD's existing technology, no combined 700hp power motors, no 云辇, all you have is a regular BYD PHEV platform. On the other hand, the pricing of the Equation Leopard 5 is significantly lower than its application value, making it a highly cost-effective product. However, this has made it challenging to price its downstream product, Shark.

It's clearly the DMO system from Leopard 5 because it adopts a longitudinal layout for the engine and electric hybrid system (EHS). The only difference is that Shark has less power, which is weird. As for the DiSus-P suspension system, it's simply not needed in a pick-up.
