Times would be tough. They did survive the “Japanese invasion” of the 80’s and our cars got better. The difference is that Japan’s government wasn’t plotting against us like the CCP does (certainly Xi does).

For me, it's clear that Geely is the only Chinese brand that's going to succeed in Europe and the US. They're the only ones to have European brands in their catalog (volvo, lotus, polestar) and to have also factories thanks to volvo and lotus.

It is truly the advantage of Geely. Much better than BYD, GWM, etc., that (currently) using self-made brands only.

Here in Panamá, Geely is one of the more popular Chinese brands. My next car may very well be the Coolray.

geely cars are genuinely good and reliable that's sales are climbing..

@@mikewallace8087 As the shift from ICE vehicles to BE vehicles is a fairly new disruption in the automotive industry, that will take maybe 5 to 10 more years to be dominant, I do not agree in using authoritarianism as a fair description of chazmo's comment. Geely Global stock performance for the past 5 years is very much dependent on the very huge investments the Geely group is doing move to being a BEV producer only. Or maybe, as English is not my native language, I have misunderstood what you are referring to? The current problem for many companies in the automotive industry is that it took to long for them to understand what was coming and that they now are facing a very hard time to survive.

Geely is by far the most government supported company. And this is good. We all know how wonderful dictators are. The future is bright

Geely have teamed up with Renault in a joint venture (HORSE Powertrain) to design and manufacture new generation IC engines to power future hybrid cars. Geely issued a joint statement with Renault in May saying their extensive joint research program indicated that more than 50% of vehicles on the roads in 2040 will have a combustion engine in them. So we have, in Sam’s words “by far the fastest growing car company in the world in 2024” about to diversify and invest hundreds of millions of dollars in high tech “new generation” combustion engines. What does that tell you?

Geely is doing amazing work; they're the giant that many people haven't paid much attention to. They're quietly taking over, and their new Galaxy lineup, Volvo EVs, Zeekr, etc. are really helping. Thanks for covering Geely as they haven't been talked about enough.

Just bc one does not believe in something does not mean it is wrong or doesn't exist.

So what is their breakdown of ICE vs hybrid vs plug-in hybrid vs fully EV?

Understandable, they have smartly bought into legacy brands, to bring together their expertise. So Volvo, Lotus and London Taxi have a brand history, so that moves them up the consumer consciousness ladder quickly and importantly they have an advantage, of a substantial consumer base to start with.

Bought a Smart #3 built by Geely ... and it doesn't count in the numbers you reported I guess since it's 50/50 with Mercedes. The best car I ever drove (but I haven't driven a lot of cars). I guess Zeekr X and Volvo EX30 might be as good since they share the same platform/form factor.

I live in Russia and here we have a lot of new geely and zeekr. And you are absolutely right about religion.

I think an analogy to disco coming back would have been better.

As an Aussie, why didn't you follow the instruction from America to talk about "overcapacity"? Those figures you mentioned are definitely something feared by the US.

Thought I would point out Nios sales are up 50% year to date as well. 😮

ICE is a long way from being replaced by electric. Yes electric is a growing trend, push aside the very political green agenda & let the market decide for itself what it wants & what is practicle in respective countries, then one will be able to realistically see how things will pan out in the future.

The marketing follows the capacity to produce. If you grow demand before being able to deliver, it's not so good. When manufacturing capacity will grow more, they will be everywhere.

The risk with Geely is their business in Russia. This may bite them in the behind, may be hard to do business in Europe and US with big investments and revenues in Russia.

Geely isn't that small, it has 80 billion invested & "targets" a total of 1.9 million cars, though it will be more like 1.5 million (not BEVS Viking, at least 50% the Coolray is ICE!) impressive? Like all Chinese makers, its losing money. The stock is $1.12. Here is your chance to get some of the 75 billion shares & lose money. Supposedly, Chinese makers are trying to get market share; but the reality is they are losing massive amounts of cash; selling vehicles far below cost;trying to survive. All Chinese makers are under great pressure economically; and many will go out of business - is Geely going to make it?

@@kamsunleong6648 Do you think it is rational to compare a new company in a completely new BEV segment with makers who don't need to design everything from scratch and have lots of competition? Tesla didn't get Billions in subsidies from the CCP, Chinese makers have recieved 231 Billion; yet they can't make any money, plus PHEVs and BEVs get buyer subsidies. China had 100 BEV only makers, 6 went under so far this year -their focus is on price instead of quality. A likely shake out, perhaps as few as 5 Chinese vehicle makers will survive; maybe one or two that only make BEVs

Really? That is indeed weird. They came here in the Philippines despite knowing people here love japanese cars and despite the US propaganda against China but they are 5 years here now and I see lots of their cars in my small hometown. I drive a geely btw and yep, way better than the japanese counterparts here. No wonder new car buyers like me no longer look at legacy brands offering thin body panels and cheaply made interior.

As long as there are tests in school, there will be prayer and religion. Also, the ten commandments are becoming mandated for public display in all public schools in at least one state and Republicans are poised to do it for many more. I am not saying that is a good or bad thing, but religious influence on our govt. in the U.S. is certainly not on the wane.
