BVI Update and Offshore Passage to Turks and Caicos
Two devastating hurricanes - Hurricanes Irma and Maria - hit the British Virgin Islands in 2017. In this video, we return to sail the BVI and get an update on recovery efforts before making a fabulous 3-day offshore passage to the Turks and Caicos.

Just finished my 103 but have sailed since 1965 and look forward to seeing you two out there! Fair Winds!
Great update Paul & Cheryl! You both are amazing sailors! Thanks!
Every once in a while we visit your channel and enjoy the wonderful images and surrounding that you present. And every time it's a treat. Stay safe! 👍🍀❤️...from the Netherlands.

Great video. Would love to visit the baths. Thanks for sharing, Chris from Missouri
Found your channel a few days ago. Love what you all share! Retired pilot now, and wish I had the funds to buy a sailboat such as yours. Would love to travel that way, since I have traveled by air for all these years. Started flying when I was 15, now enjoying the life. Take care!
Love the BVI. We chartered there in February and just missed you. We were at Norman and you were at Jost VD etc. Great to see recovery efforts and the local folks were SO happy to see us. Hopefully next we can get to the Bahamas this winter. All the best, Carleen. 🇨🇦
I'm looking forward to your new anchor reviews. My wife has her heart set on a Mantus but I think our 7 year old Rocna is JUST FINE. :D
much Love from the island of Virgin Gorda!!🇻🇬🇻🇬

Nice
Great video! Fair winds from the Neely's.
Your video presentations are very professional, and enjoyable! Your boat is by far the largest in the fleet I follow on youtube, I am guessing the pitching and yawing the others enjoy is still your bane but hopefully less than the others.
I love the night shot of our galaxy. :D
Wow! You guys are so fortunate to be able to sail around the world. I absolutely love the Caribbean and my wife and I once sailed around the island of Antigua for 7 days with 4 other couples in August of 2005. Thanks for sharing!

I would love to see an episode about you two! How many miles have you done together? What prompted you so many years ago to set off? So many questions. Love your shows and will always watch your productions!

Love it! But Virgin Gorda is the 3rd largest and Anegada is the 2nd.

Calm waters in the Salish sea. Maybe return to Canada via the North West Passage.
What kind of Elvström sails do you have? Epex den05.?
Sandy Spit was practically gone right after the storm and reemerged a few days later.
Hello.....you mentioned those banks on the way, are they available or too dangerous?
I've heard that Bitter End YC is destroyed and not coming back. Is that the case?

May I ask why your boat has jersey on the transom and you re flying a British ensign?
@oceandrew

Jersey registry is available to many non British nationalities and as non EU nationals the Chards get to save on the VAT. The red ensign also comes with the Jersey registry.
When was this filmed.. I want to go in good weather time not to hot n humid

The BVI was filmed in March and the trip to the Turks was April 5-13 of this year!
A Erwin killer rokke fish?
What type of boat is Distance Shores?
Hope you’re well away from the area right now with Dorian bearing down.
I had no idea you sail at night time. Couldn't you collide with another ship, a reef or something floating on the ocean? Do you have a warning system or do you stay awake all night? Do you have a night camera or night vision goggles? How does that work? How can you even sleep at night wondering if a rogue wave will capsize your ship!
@DistantShoresTV
4 жыл бұрын
Those are all good subjects for another night video Richard! Thanks for the suggestions. 1: Another ship will show up on our AIS warning system 2: A reef will be on our charts - plotters 3: something floating is still a worry :-( ... we do keep someone on watch 24 X 7 at sea but realistically they will not spot a floating object so we have to be confident in the toughness of our hull in case we collide. Good idea for a Vid!
@sailingavocet

As DS mentioned most vessels are equipped with AIS to alert the crew, reefs and other obstacles will appear on charts which is why you always plot your course prior to setting sail. A big danger is shipping containers that fall overboard from shipping lanes, those things will tear your hull a new one! That's why you switch off on watch. We usually do 3 hours on and 3 hours off to ensure we both get enough sleep. I hope this provided some more insight, cheers!
Hey Paul, did I see an amel rigging at the mast?

Thanks Stimpy. After filming this we headed north from the Bahamas up to Annapolis so we should be safe from any of the worse effects of Dorian. Our thoughts and hopes are with those in the path of Dorian, especially the Northern Bahamas and Abacos which seem certain to get a direct hit. Stay safe!

I guess the puddle jump from BVI to the Turks is considered a "passage" when you have a fragile production boat who keels all fall off. These people are not sailors.
