Buzzetti Timing Tool

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is one of the handiest tools in my garage, it makes setting the timing on most mopeds utterly simple.
treatland.tv and 1977mopeds.com both sell it

Thanks for showing us how to use this tool. I never found any videos explaining how. Now I found out.

So the tool does not come with instructions on how to use? The video is not very clear and the explanation also not very clear. Does the tool have graduations for setting it to 1.5 mm's?

Hey I'm trying to do the timing on my old 2 stroke yamaha ds7 and wondering if this tool would work for me. Do you know the dimensions on how long it is? The main problem I have been having is clearance of the cooling fins without it hitting the bike frame or gas tank up top.

Nice congrats on the DS7 that's a cool bike, I think it probably will work for you. I don't have it in front of me at the moment , but I wanna say it's about 3 1/2" from the threads to the top of the tool. If the tank is in the way you can always take it if off, set the timing, then put it back on. You might already know this, but on your bike you'll want to go for 2.5mm BTDC

Is one complete revolution of the tool equal one millimeter? Thank you

I have nearly the identical tool except it does not have a Buzzetti logo. I just used it to time a PowerDynamo/Vape ignition on a 1974 Montesa 73M VR250 engine in a Rickman VR250MX bike. Not as accurate as a dial indicator, but easier to use as it is a TDC piston STOP. dial indicator is more accurate method of measuring but this method is way easier to actually set the timing. Is Buzzetti a moped scooter manufacturer? I believe these are also very popular for old 2T outboard boat engines.

Tip - place bike in 3rd-ish gear when trying to find true TDC, and move the bike back & forth with both hand pressure on the kickstarter, & hand pressure rolling the bike in a backwards direction. This method gets rid of the time wasted rolling bike back & forth with engine not turning immediately due to gear mesh backlash tolerances. I was SURPRISED at how little care the videographer took in confirming he was dead on at TDC, his rushed single attempt in one direction would not pass my critical intuitive attention to detail. I go past TDC to confirm piston is ATDC, then reverse, eyeballing it very critically, often many times. I guess a moped is not a real serious performance engine, but still, it's nice to maximize it's potential tune.

At 0:55 it appears that you push the micrometer back into the cylinder from where the piston left it at TDC. Why? I was able to snag the same micrometer and am trying it out on my E50. Thanks!

Probably because the compression generated in the engine often pushes the rod up higher than the point of contacting the piston, so he's likely just checking that it is at TDC in contact with the piston.
