Highlights as USA's Jordan Ernest Burroughs defeats Iran's Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi to win Gold in the Men's Wrestling Freestyle 74kg during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The 1900 Games were the only ones where wrestling was not present in any shape or form. As from the 1908 Olympic Games in London, Greco-Roman wrestling has always been included on the programme. Since the 1920 Antwerp Games, there have been both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling competitions.

    As a former boxer and kickboxer, I must say the danger a wrestler brings to a fight can NEVER be overestimated. These fuckers are seriously dangerous. Their strength, aggression, conditioning, and skillsets are formidable.

    Shockingly bad commentary! I know the British don't have a strong wrestling tradition, but there must be a former athlete or coach or something - someone with more than a casual acquaintance with the sport - who could provide a little insight into the match. "Another good move from Burroughs" doesn't really cut it.

    +Brendan Keller If someone who doesn't know much about wrestling is watching, I don't know if they could even understand the terminology. And if they do, than commentaries are redundant anyway. I'd like to see a sport event without a commentator just to see if it would be as interesting. Probably not though.

    +Brendan Keller you are 100% right, but that's network TV in this day and age. They get their grimey mits on everything and get all the advertising benefits. We can name 20 plus commentators and wrestling fanatics that would do a great job. But not as long as NBC is doing the coverage. What a joke. But the wrestling is what's important here I suppose

  • @giantsboy3068

    @giantsboy3068

    7 жыл бұрын

    The commentator actually wasn't talking about the collar tie, he was referring to their other hands where they interlocked fingers which is not allowed in freestyle as little action occurs in that position. It is confusing though, because interlocking fingers is legal in folkstyle. Also, if you watch their hands at 1:30, the referee swats their hands to remove the lock.

    i love the sportsmanship here! At around 1:07 Goudarzi gives Burroughs a tap on the elbow which isn't much. but i think of it as he added a little bit more of a friendship, showing a little more respect for Burroughs. And at 6:37 you see Burroughs call off the flag for the lap of honor until AFTER he shook hands with the Iran coaches. Two great athletes showing great respect for each other and showing a great deal of sportsmanship which is why this is the greatest olympic sport in my opinion.

    Oh wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...you either know very little about wrestling or just the superficial stuff they show on TV or internet. If you ever wrestled you would know how much of a savage the other guy is. We are talking one split second misplacement of one foot by half a foot ahead or backwards and you get taken down...It is complete perfection from beginning to the end. Wrestling, at this level, is so technical that only real enthusiasts with, at least state wrestling experience and a lot of detailed knowledge, can appreciate and follow. IT IS LIKE ASKING WHY FIGHTERS DONT THROW 100 PUNCHES PER ROUND AGAINST FLOYD WHEN THEY DO IT EVERY OTHER FIGHT THEIR WHOLE CAREER AND EVEN AGAINST KO ARTISTS AND WIN EASY. AND FLOYD IS NOT KNOWN FOR HIS KO ABILITY SO WHY ARENT THEY THROWING...THERE IS NOTHING TO HIT!!!

    Burroughs looked a bit tired to me at first but than he somehow managed to explode in the right moment as he always does. Hell, his defense is as good as his attacks! Goudarzi on the other hand seemed hesitant the entire match until it was already too late. It was tense to watch even though the title said Burroughs was going to win.

    It starts with practice. When in practice, keep this in mind: practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. Make sure you know what to do in any situation. During matches, ask someone to film you so you can see what you did right and wrong. Work out everyday, you will need strength and conditioning. I suggest running, pushups everyday. I'm glad to give more advice if you want some.

    Having an Englishman do freestyle wrestling commentary is like having an American do cricket commentary.

    To drop weight, I feel that running everyday is important. You need to get stronger without gaining to much muscle, so I would stay out of the weight rooms. A good workout i find involves a deck of cards. Shuffle the deck and draw a card. If you draw a diamond and heart, you do the number of sit ups (crunches or ect) the card tells you to (face cards are 10 and aces are 15). Clubs and spades represent pushups. I don't have much advice for eating, I would look up diets to tryout.
