Jacob Varner Wins Freestyle 96 kg Olympic Wrestling Gold - London 2012 Olympics

The USA's Jacob Stephen Varner defeats Ukraine's Valerii Andritsev to win the gold medal in the men's freestyle wrestling 96kg event at the London 2012 Olympic Games (12 August).
The 1900 Games were the only ones where wrestling was not present in any shape or form. As from the 1908 Olympic Games in London, Greco-Roman wrestling has always been included on the programme. Since the 1920 Antwerp Games, there have been both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling competitions.

I still cant believe the Olympic committee wanted to remove wrestling from the Olympics. That is just crazy.

@Savage Cabbage so competitive sports like hockey and basketball stay then... In the history of hockey 10 unique teams have won gold. Canada has won 9 of 24 gold medals in the history of hockey at the Olympics. Basketball it's worse. Out of 19 basketball tournaments at the Olympic games the US has won 15 of them. The Soviet Union 2 Argentina 1 and Yugoslavia 1. The first win by the Soviets was massively controversial and many say the US should have a 16th. Table tennis is routinly swept by the Chinese who have won 28 out of 32 medals. Meanwhile in wrestling 39 different countries have won gold. Yeah wrestling is the non competitive one dominated by 1 team.

why do people cry about Yazdani not making the final? Injuries happen to great athletes also. Maybe he did not properly warm up? I'm just glad Varner is the Champ. He had a great tournament.
