Government is trying to reduce expenses whenever, however and wherever possible! But this guy most definitely been in and out of prison for repeat offences. Police know once they set him free - AGAIN amongst the public.... The culprit will look for his next heist, because that's all he knows and robbing is a way for the criminal to make ends meet. Unfortunately for him, that's probably the only lifestyle he knows!

Even if it might be in breach of your tenancy agreement or what not, change your locks when you move in - you don't know who has had / lost / kept the keys to the place. Changing a cylinder back takes 5 mins.

Happened to me at my first flat. I didn't think I needed to change the locks, when I moved in, and I didn't know somebody had tried to let themselves in until I got up the next morning to find that the door was only being held in place by the security chain. It's a recurring theme in my nightmares, now :) .

Victims have their house burgled, money for their baby stolen, any feeling of security in their own home violated and their sense of safety stripped - and the burglar gets a suspended sentence! Walks away, even after returning to the scene of the crime to further exploit these victims, getting nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Where’s the justice?! Zero deterrent, zero punishment, and every chance he’ll be continuing his crime spree til they do actually decide to lock him up. How many more victims, police call-outs, man hours, ££ etc. does it take for the justice system to take action and deal with these criminals appropriately? Absolute joke.

He might have lived there at one time, and kept the keys. Or used a wire to steal the keys from the letterbox. (never leave your keys in the door)

I had some drunk Eastern European with blood dripping from his hand trying to get into my house telling me it was his. I was concerned for his safety until he tried to break a window in my front door at which point the police were called. He was pretty old but he was about to be spartan kicked into the road. He walked off before police arrived so I don't think they arrested him, haven't seen him since
