This is crazy labor intensive. I think the original stone molds they just turned them upside down and dumped out the latex they were using. Silicone will last so much longer. I still hope to build B-9 one day.........

This is really interesting! I had no idea how much work was involved!

I am a child of the 60's and LIS was the first show I remember with any clarity. Well, that and the Rifleman. Anyway first coolest thing on that show was THE ROBOT. Second was the J2, third the Space Pod, Then Chariot & hand props. I built myself a hundred robots out of cardboard and duct tape and other materials as time went by. Got interested in Planet of the apes and found a pictorial in Famous Monsters of Filmland showing John Chambers making the molds for the ape facial appliances, so I replicated it using liquid latex rubber and made my own ape faces with fake hair you used to be able to buy. Pointed Vulcan ears. I've always been good with my hands and I make scratchbuilt models of 1/25 cars the companies never released and I use silicone molds to copy those and sell them occasionally. I used to WONDER how one could make those EXACT robot rubber parts. Thought I'd use dryer vent hose for the arms, the legs no idea. Even if I could figure out the rest of the body (I thought I could) those legs completely flummoxed me. Your vid has been an eye opening realization some things are better left to people who know exactly what the heck they are doing. All this makes amazed and thankful for (1) someone like you who figured out how to do this and (2) Robert Kinoshita! the guy who created that Robot in the FIRST PLACE and built it in the dim dark 1960's!!! Using cro-magnon technologies we have 5000 improvements on ever since! Jeezus pleezus!!! I commend your sir on your excellent copies you are doing fantastic work ehere. I do wonder if you are still doing these in 2021. Checked your site and saw it was dated 2010 (?) Thank you so much for your efforts in this regard. I am about to retire. I will need projects to fill my time and can't think of a better one for indoors on cold days and nights. KUDOS!!

That is a very complex mould, very very clever 👍👍👍

I found using air to disassemble my moldsfast. Just use a common air nozzle with a rubber tip at any of the seam joints. But be careful. Can and will separate very fast.

Added comment: I watched the vid again and knowing how they slap things together in TV/Movie productions just to last a little while and it only has to just be 'good enough' for the camera, I have to say what Will has done is worlds better than the originals. That's what happens when you take time to study, and plan then create like it should last as long as the pyramids. Anything of this caliber blows away the original 'work' done in the 60's. Often this kind of work was done on a timetable and shoestring budget. P.S: If anyone knows what became of the original B9 Robot created for the series please reply and let me know. Just wondering if it survived all these years. Thanks!!

Came across your video. Great work! I restarting a B9 build that's been on hold far too long. My goal is to take the robot around to different hospitals, to cheer people up. I have to ask if you are still making the arms in particular, and how much a set would be? Also, this is a budget build, do you have and miscasts that would still work? Again, your work is brilliant!

I do still make them, but only once a year now. I will be making them in the spring sometime. I do on occasion have seconds. Drop me a line and I’ll notify you if I end up with one or two pairs.
